The guys in the paint department are so helpful! I am working on a wallpaper project and they were able to color match the background while also making great recommendations for other close colors. I also found my wallpaper guy through them! We will be using this place as our go-to hardware store from now on.

Anita and the rest of the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Their attitudes are for helping and facilitating the professional and regular customers.
Also and very important is that Cardinal Home Center always has someone to help find materials in the yard and warehouse and help load them if necessary. Wow!
That saves lots of time and improves accuracy.

Cabinet girl said she was coming out to my house to get measurements. 3hrs later I spoke to her manager because she didn't respond to calls or text. He said she passed it off to another store and went to another job. Terrible communication.I still do not have a quote.I will not do business here at the store. When you give somebody your word to do something and you don't do it.And then you talk to the manager. And they find acceptable behavior don't do business with this company.
Just straight shady unbelievable.

It's about the only place that has quality lumber in Central Virginia - and I mean it! I work for a construction company and if you want a job we'll done, finding straight lumber with minimal knots, is right here (not saying there isn't bad wood here, there's always something not worth using), but customer service is exceptional, and custom ordering is good. Use Cardinal Home Center for your best jobs.

My favorite building supply store. Only downside is the location is a bit out of the way for me. Everything else is 10 stars.

I do business with Cardinal Home Center at least 3 days a week. They always have all the building materials i need and if they do not have it, they will get it quickly. Special order items are a breeze and I can always count on the knowledgeable staff to help me out. I usually deal with Jay Rutledge (sales staff). He helps to solve any issues I may have and gives great recommendations on material selections. He keeps up to date on all the current trends and gives suggestions on alternative materials that can be ordered if they do not have something in stock and is always there to help. I can always count on Jay to get the job done. Thanks Cardinal Home Center!

Jay in building material sales has been my go-to for years spanning my work with various local builders. He is both knowledgeable and most importantly responsive! I would highly recommend anyone with questions about a building project go seek out Jay at the Crozet Cardinal store.

Love shopping at this local store. It’s rare to get amazing customer service these days and Jay always goes above/beyond and is my go-to for anything related to home renovations/improvement. Take your business to him.

We work with Cardinal regularly to supply materials for our projects at Bear Creek Outdoor Living. Jay is our representative and he does an awesome job of getting us what we need and keeping us up-to-date on anything that’s in progress. It’s awesome to work with someone who is knowledgeable and that we know will follow through and get things done.

In Jan 2021, I was introduced to Jay Rutledge at the former Blue Ridge Builders Supply, in Crozet, newly purchased at the time by Cardinal Home Center. For the last 2 years, as a custom home builder based in Ivy, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him! He has made my job much easier, for many reasons; being able to text him questions & orders, vs formal phone calls or emails, has streamlined my process. He’s proactive in his approach, he follows up with his vendors, on special orders, and he’s an outside-the-box thinker (which I really appreciate), to name a few of the things I love about working with him. I’m proud to call Jay a friend now, and I’d like to let Cardinal know, they have a great man on their team in Crozet.

Thank you!

Just an awesome local building supply company...

Sure you may pay a little extra for some stuff, but they treat people so great here and have given me some small stuff here and there for free even (which was not expected, but certainly appreciated!!)

Customer service is bar none here and I would recommend this company to anyone!!

We have had a good relationship with Blue Ridge Builders Supply for a while now. They have the best selection of materials and some of the best customer service out there! Every time I come into the shop everyone is super friendly. We are truly grateful to do business with these guys!

We decided to go with BRBS instead of Lowe's thinking we would get superior customer service. Dianna works really hard and is super sweet, but is overworked. Things were not ordered on time for our kitchen, charges were made to my credit card with out my authorization, things were left off our order, and we were overcharged for things we did not need. In addition, there were costly delays and my phone calls and emails were not returned in a timely manner. Overall, our kitchen renovation turned out great, but there was a lot of micro managing on our part to push it forward.

I have used this supply for almost 15 years on a regular basis. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and honest, and they stock all the standard building materials and parts. I prefer to support a well run locally owned business like this over the anonymous big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes.

We Answer Frequently Asked Questions
Pricing questions
1. What is the average roof replacement cost for a residential home?
+-

The average roof replacement cost for a residential home typically ranges from $7,000 to $15,000, depending on factors such as roof size, chosen materials, roof pitch, and labor rates in your area. Premium materials or complex designs may increase the price.

2. How much does it usually cost to replace the roof of a commercial building?
+-

The cost to replace the roof of a commercial building typically ranges from $5 to $12 per square foot, depending on several factors such as roof size, material, labor rates, building type, and local code requirements.

3. What factors affect the overall roof repair cost?
+-

Several factors influence roof repair cost, including the extent of the damage, roof accessibility, material type, labor costs, and whether it’s a general repair or an emergency fix. Minor repairs can start around $150–$400, while major repairs may exceed $1,500.

4. What is the typical roof leak repair cost, and how is it calculated?
+-

Roof leak repair cost generally ranges from $300 to $800, depending on the size and location of the leak, the materials required, and labor intensity. Complex leaks involving structural repairs or interior damage will cost more.

5. What is the average flat roof repair cost for commercial buildings?

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?
+-

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
