Customer feedback is mixed regarding the services provided by Mr. Whitlow. While some clients praise the quality of work and timely completion, others express significant dissatisfaction due to incomplete jobs and unfulfilled promises. Complaints often highlight poor communication, with many customers reporting missed appointments and excuses for delays. Despite a few positive experiences, the prevalence of serious issues raises concerns about reliability and professionalism.

Mr. Whitlow was hired and paid to repair some wood rot. He showed up when he said he would but he only finished about half the job! He has acknowledged that the job isn't finished and has been promising for well over a month to finish it. Telling us he'll be there on a certain day at a certain time but then never shows up! He always has some excuse, he was sick or his truck broke down or he's going through some family stuff right now. Very unprofessional! We were understanding the first few times but then realized he was just feeding us lies! We are currently in the process of a preparing a lawsuit against him & his business! WHAT EVER YOU DO, DON'T HIRE BLACK DIAMOND HOME IMPROVEMENT!
WILL NOT HIRE AGAIN! Dishonest, Avoidant, Charged WAY more for Less than quality And Incomplete work! We hired Mr. Whitlow and his team to redo our driveway last spring. He was friendly and we really thought we were doing the right thing by hiring him as he seemed like a stand-up guy and we wanted to support local businesses. We were wrong. He quoted us $13,600 to redo our driveway. It seemed reasonable. While waiting to secure funding (credit card) Mr. Whitlow pushed us to begin the driveway project before we had money in hand. His reasoning was he wanted to fill his schedule and stated that he would cover the upfront cost until we received our funding (card). We were not comfortable with this as we did not like the way he was pushing us, but we began anyways since we knew we needed the driveway done. This was our first mistake. During the conversation, he stated he would get all of the appropriate site surveys done to ensure lines were not cut when he dug out our old driveway. He did not do this and ended up cutting our cable lines. This action delayed the project a week as the cable company had to reconnect the lines. Since he had already ordered concrete, the delay that he caused (He was operating the machine to remove our concrete) increased the price by $5,000 (or so he said). The concrete sub-contractors did a horrible job! They did not smooth the concrete after it was poured like we wanted leaving the driveway very bumpy. They also used bagged concrete to fill in mistakes they had made after the original fiber concrete was placed. There is discoloration, chipping, and holes all throughout the driveway. As concrete was being placed, Mr. Whitlow let us know that the total bill would be $20,000 ($6,400 more than originally quoted). We did not agree and talked him down to $18,500 which was disgusting given they never showed back up to complete the job once money was given. There was much effort to get him back to our home to remedy the problem, but we were given excuse after excuse. His sub-contractors expressed to me that they did not like the way he did business, and that Mr. Whitlow has avoided paying them for previous projects. Speaks to how he does business. Their company is NOT registered with the Better Business Bureau, and clearly, I can see why. I am not confident his concrete contractors were certified as his main concrete guy told me that he had previously gotten in trouble for not being licensed. Overall, it was a horrible experience and if we have to pay over market value for anything, we will be choosing to work with actual professionals not this LLC.
Russell was recommended to me by a neighbor. I contacted him and let him know I wanted to get my stairs for my front porch done as well as the lattice. Russell asked for a deposit. I gave him the deposit. Then he ended up having his uncle or someone close to him perform the job. I told Russell there were a few things I did not like and asked if he would be coming back. He said yes he would be coming back and even broke off a piece of my lattice. I paid him with hopes that he would keep his word only to be hit with excuses like his tire blew and he had a death in the family amongst a few others. He stopped texting and/or returning calls from my number. He answers other phone numbers. When I asked for 150 refund out of the 2500. He refused and said he would come back to do finish the job. It has now been a full month and the problems have not been resolved. Please read the reviews before hiring Russell who apparently does not finish jobs, but is okay with asking/taking full payment before completion. He is a black owned business so I wanted to believe he would do right, but this is the first contractor where I had a bad experience. I thought I might hire him for various jobs, but that is out the window. He is a modern day con artist. I would never hire him again.
