Big John Roofing completed 2 projects at my home. He cleaned the gutters and repaired my damaged chimney. Very professional and also provided good advice on a future project. I'm looking forward to working with him again. He's a good man for the job. I highly recommend his services .

I HAD ORIGINALLY GIVEN BIG JOHN’S ROOFING FIVE RATING DUE HIs TRANSPARENCY WHILE HE WAS HE WAS DOING THE WORK. HE REPLACED MY ROOF FOR $12,000 IN AUGUST 3, 2024 with a guarantee for 10 years labor. AFTER TWO DAYS IT RAINED and WATER WAS FALLING LIKE instead of going through the normal channel gutter. I called Mr. John and he came but promised to come the next day to fix the problem, unfortunately, it rained the remainder of that week. I reached out to him after a week. His response was I have to wait. I called and texted but he has not responded to date. I have to get another Roofer ( America Construction Services) to fix his mess. Costing me another $550).He did not silicone where silicone was needed neither did he put aluminum on the gutter edges to keep the water in the gutters. He does not honor his job guarantee. His Truck and contractor invoice do not have his company’s name that makes me wonder what is he hiding? His non response gave me a food for thought. I ADVISED that you check Big John’s Roofing Review in both Yelps and Google before you consider using him for any kind of job. If I have done that I wouldn’t have used him, The Reviews in YELPs reflect his true character. The pictures below is just the edges of porch roof which I have access to. I highly recommend using Big John roofing for any of your roofing and chimney needs. I had my chimney repointed and flashing around chimney fixed and they did a superb job. Had water coming in and not only did they repoint outside but sealed up from inside as well as extra measure. It was a pleasure to see somebody have the professionalism to show up when they say they will and work an honest days work for an honest days paid. I would also like to say that they were not recommended to me, I called them for an estimate and after talking to John and other chimney and roofing guys, John is extremely knowledgeable and explains everything in detail with pictures and turned out to be great decision.

I found this company off line and they came out the same day to see what I needed done by the next morning the gentleman was here bright and early and did what I needed done on both roofs I had. They were very clean, polite and fast workers. I will be referring them to my friends and family. Thank you again..

Don't even bother with these clowns. Made appointments a few times with them for a roof estimate. They never showed up and never called. Then when you get big John on the phone, he says he has to call his son (maybe small John) to see what's going on. Then end of story. No follow up. Given this nonchalance, no way I am comfortable giving them my roofing job now. Big John appears to be retired.

Had a big roof replaced. John gave me a fair price and the work was completed really much faster than I thought it would be. My roof looks beautiful and, I watched and saw that the work was thorough.
They removed the old wood and shingles totally and installed the new roof effectively and efficiently.

Couldn’t ask more from someone. Was professional throughout the process. Came and access the roof quickly. Helped me research on matters I wasn’t sure about and guided me to the best choices from. Please I am warning you! You will regret it!! Do not use this company!! They will do a horrible job and tell you to call them if you have problems and then they do not respond to your text, calls or voice messages. They robbed my parents and I and I have made a complaint!! I would give a 0 star if I could.

He came this week and gave us a price on a roof at our house. The price was OK a little high. We also had them look at the leaks in the basement. He said some things about the furnace and hot water heater that were just not true. I think he really tried to scare my wife. He said there was lots of carbon monoxide leaking out of both of them. I went to Home Depot and bought the carbon monoxide tester, and, his allegations were false. He also turned off the furnace and the hot water heater so the house got really cold. I don’t know if that was a tactic to try to create panic.

Our gutters needed emergent repairs following a storm and John provided quick and excellent service, while explaining the processes. Would highly recommend him.

Were supposed to show up between 9- 11. Called at 11:15, told me they would be here in 20. No one showed up. Called them at 1 and asked where they were, they said they they came and no one answered. I had inner door open waiting for them since I have an emergency flood. Liars, will not recommend, also have security camera which shows they never showed up. update-Look at the actions by this company by listing my address and personal information. Would not have filed review if he had not cursed at me and repeatedly called me a liar when I called asking about the status of his crew. Will file report with BBB.

Big John Roofing was hired to repair leaks on our warehouse roof in the Bronx. Two weeks later, the leaks returned. Months have passed and all attempts to contact him have been ignored. We have tried reaching him over the phone, left messages and texts - no response. We are now in the process of hiring a new roofing company to solve our problems.

Had a leak in my ceiling from so much rainfall throughout the years. Big John quickly responded and within 2 days my entire roof was repaired. Fair price, quick service and I would highly recommend!!

Horrible business. Came to fix roof and created a bigger hole and the whole roof was leaking didn’t answer phone and was told he wouldn’t come back. Nasty man with a disgusting mouth. Horrible customer service. Then purposely created a hole in my roof , he came back a second time unannounced. He was angry that he did a bad job and was called out on it … came back to damage the roof on purpose. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN. HE IS A SCAMMER AND JUST WANTS TO TAKE YOUR MONEY!

This is Joey from Studio 17. I had two different guys trying to fix my roof but still leaking. Then Johnny came and did the job thoroughly and no more leaking. He finished the job right before the snow. He was professional and super chilled. I would recommend him to anyone who needs work done.

I dont recommend using this roofer. Repaired my roof and 2 weeks later i have a tremendous leak in my room that i disnt have before he did the job!! I have been calling him an texting him and he is non responsive. DO NOT USE THIS GUY!!!!! When he finally called my husband back he got very vulgar on phone wont repeat what he said. The problem has nothing to do with skylight since its in a different room from leak and was sealed and serviced every year. Seems to write Fake Review on bad reviews in hopes they get taken off. Wouldnt be surprised if the good reviews are friends of his. LISTEN TO ME. STAY AWAY FROM BIG JOHNS YOU WILL BE THROWING YOUR $$ Away!!!! Also he threatened to not come back unless I took review down!!!

Finally, a contractor who keeps to his word! John took pictures and videos of the issues concerned to show us and explained the situation thoroughly before and after the work was done. I called John about a leaking roof. He arrived on time, took a video of the roof and explained my options. He returned with his team a few days later on time, and efficiently sealed the roof. He did excellent work at a reasonable price. He was kind and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again, and highly recommend him to anyone who needs roof work done.

What I thought was going to be a job well done job turned into a nightmare. John told my parents and myself that the work he did in the valley would last us 10-15 years. It has not even been a year and the roof that I paid $2300 for, is now leaking again. I have called several times, my father and I had a friend call and no response. I plan to take him to small claims court!! I have reported him to the Better Business Bureau!! Do not use him at all!!!!!!!!! He is dishonest and a fraud!!!

In August 2022 I needed my gutters cleaned and checked. I called Big Johns Roofing. He told me I needed new gutters and gutter guards in some areas. He also cleaned the ones on the second floor. He told me that my Chimney needed copper flashing because of all the gaps between the brick and cement. He also completed other tasks without telling me nor discussing the price till after I saw the bill! Well one of the gutters on the second floor was hanging off. I called him and there was no response. I researched another company and they came and fixed the hanging gutter guard but told me the flashing was coming off! You can imagine my concern. How could Copper Flashing come off? The Gutter Company told me it was not Copper Flashing that it was Copper Paper! He charged me for Copper Flashing not Paper!!!!! Do not use this Company! Horrible!

I gave John a call about needing a roof repair from the recent hurricane about 3 weeks ago. He came over inspected the roof gave me a reasonable quote and was here again the next day with 2 guys to repair all damages. His team did a excellent job and I'm looking fwd to doing business with him again in the future.

Was referred to from a friend , has gutter installed and roof repaired. From watching videos online I was expecting this to be a job that’ll take long, but John came with his guys and knocked it out quick. First day I was watching them and it’sa lot of work to do this type of job. It was done professionally and a timely manner.I love the job that was done,I would recommend him to anyone that’s for sure

If you're looking at this 4 ⭐ business and think you'll be safe from a scam and damage to your homeyou're taking a huge risk and potentially will be shelling out more money to repair the extra damage that this company will do. John Kot, or John Scarpa as written on the contractor invoice, cannot be found on any NY contractors website when searched. His license number is not on the Big John Roofing website either.
A little too late, after searching for a credible proof of his business and ability to contract, I did find a 2012 suit from the State of New Jersey for a John Kot totaling $7 million dollars, taking his license, & a lifetime ban from home improvement work, creating and managing businesses in NJ. An excerpt from an online article:

"Bergen County Superior Court Judge Robert P. Contillo found that Kot's companies had committed more than 1,500 violations of state laws governing consumer fraud, contractor registration, and regulations on advertising and home improvement."

The Westchester County government website also has John Kot & associates along with the businesses he owns in the suit, as one of many listed as a Renograde Renovater. This explicitly states:

" The Consumer Protection Department maintains a list of unlicensed problematic home improvement contractors. These contractors have been and continue to be the source of many consumer complaints. "

All of this can be directly Googled, and it also says John Kot has multiple roofing & contracting businesses to hide behind, working schemes.

Now, this is the experience we had:
This contracting business was hired explicitly to clean & repair the chimney & conduct the replacing of the internal chimney components and install a turbine to push the exhaust going from the boiler to the roof as well as clean up after themselves.

Not only did they ruin the equipment (the new steel piping and accessories that runs up the chimney) that was bought by us, literally voiding the warranty because it was "installed" incorrectly, they put the multi-family home in jeopardy by sealing up their mistakes and shoddy work with cement behind the wall.

The replacement chimney tubing was not connected to the boiler. They cut it short so it was just hanging somewhere along the chimney's length inside the wall, not connected to the boiler safely, the way it was instructed in the manual. Additionally, the external boiler exhaust pipes were incorrectly put back together, upside down, meaning that carbon monoxide could easily leak throughout our multifamily house. Carbon Monoxide kills hundreds of people every year from poisoning. It is also very flammable, if lit causing an eruption, if all the way up to the roof through our 3 families!

Not only this, John Roofing disconnected our water heater from its system! The owner of this business has threatened to come back, when confronted with all the damage he's done, to assault the owner of this home. His neglect and incompetence put many lives in danger.

John Roofing is dangerous. They are dishonest in their service renderings, to aid their scheme to take advantage of everyday working families. Essentially stealing their hard-earned, saved money for the purpose of repairing their homes. They intentionally and maliciously do not fulfill the contract that was agreed upon.

Be very careful when reading the positive reviews and look at the responses given by the owner to negative reviews. No accountability or professionalism. I would avoid this business at all costs.

All of this is documented, legal action has been taken. I have attached the contract and damages in my review to prove all I've written.

John and his team did an excellent job installing our new roof from start to finish. He came promptly, inspected our roof, gave his recommendations and explained the costs. Within a few days John’s crew was at our home. The job was done in a timely fashion. They even raked our lawn to make sure there were no nails or debris left. Would highly recommend John.

He showed up, checked the situation, let me know what is needed, and did the work promptly. I have nothing but praise and respect for the guy. Will definitely use again.

John and his team were excellent. I tried for months to get other companies to fix my roof. John showed up and explained what I needed and what it would cost. He provided options and used videos to demonstrate the job that was done. When I needed other things managed he was able to help and was super quick. My neighbor's roof was falling apart and causing water damage between our houses. John came back out the next day and fixed their roof so I wouldn't have any additional issues. Now that's service you can't get these days.

What can I say? JOHN DID AN AMAZING JOB. Due to recent snowstorm and all the snow melting on the roof, my ceiling started to leak. I needed someone ASAP! I called John and he picked up and said he'll stop by the next day to look at it. He stopped by and he was very knowledgeable and took his time to explain to what the issue was. Called Big John’s for an estimate to repair a leak in my roof. They showed up, assessed issue, gave me a quote. As promised, returned next day with required materials and made repairs. Tech Steve also informed me that there was a trash bag stuffed in my main plumbing vent which he removed for me. This was causing a sewer smell within my home. He even sent me a video of the roof so I could see what was wrong. So glad I called Big John’s. They delivered! A+ service

My neighbor and I did a combined project of replacing our roof. When you call Big John Roofing and hear their message their slogan is "We show up." Not only did they show up as promised, they met every commitment in the original quote to a T and more. Their delivery was spot on and exceeded expectations. The attention to detail, especially from John, was far above what I've come to expect from other contractors. The onsite team was very respectful, polite, professional, and clearly skilled and experienced. It felt like they were caring for my house as they would their own. Highly recommend.

These guys worked hard & fast cleaning up as they went along. Once they start they don’t stop. Lastly the job is well done I’m very satisfied.

He did my whole roof but there's still continued leaks. I called several times and my girlfriend tried several times and left him a message, got no response. When I emailed him, his response was nasty and wouldn't come back to look at my roof. I spent thousands of dollars for poor workmanship and quality. Even my insurance company said they wouldn't cover the claim because of poor work and materials.
I see John replied that the person managing my property hung up on him. From what she says, he never answered but even if I give him benefit of the doubt, I can’t because he never and never answered numerous calls I myself made not replied to my emails requesting he get in touch with me or her because the roof is still leaking and there’s a 10 year warranty. And he’s not being truthful because he put down a EDPM roof which only goes down on flat roofs so it’s not as he says and you can see where he worked by the pictures my insurance company took. I usually don’t RE-reply but don’t call me a liar after you rip me off $7,000 and now I’m out $5,000 to fix it all over plus another $6,000 for damage caused inside to redo Sheetrock and painting. When all you had to do was show up and honor your warranty. Not only was THAT rude, it’s poor business practice, and fraudulent business to give a warranty And not stand by the warranty and this was less than a year. But poor ethics. And I spent over $7,000. And had to get someone else to come fix it. If I show you what my roof looks like now, it’s beautiful. And if I may add there’s an article that was sent to me that he is barred from performing roofing work in Jersey. I attached an article that was sent to me by a friend who did research when she thought it was odd that he wasn’t calling me or my friend back, she was a cop and that she found out he had a 7.7 million judgment against him. Ijs. And just so you know, I saw that my it said this was a fake review, it’s not. I wrote it personally and I experienced it.

Did not know I passed by John's house in the neighborbood. My wife noticed the apple tree and I noticed the Camaro hot rod. Then the storm came (Henri) and I needed someone to quickly repair a leak. I found John's number online and he responded immediately. I have a flat roof and John put on an elastomeric rubber membrane roof. He also put on new shingles on a small roof over my door. Reasonable price, quick work and he didnt charge me for extra repair work. Full warranty on labor and materials. Now Im ready for next storm. Glad I hired Big John

I was in a bind as my tenant called me and told me the roof was leaking, wetting her bed which she had to push around to get it out of the path of the leak. I called a couple places and George came to my rescue giving me a same day appointment. After inspecting the roof he told me what had to be done and explained how it would be done.

I called to schedule an appointment which was set up between 12:00pm and 2:00pm for 08/24/21.
No one ever showed up. I reached out to the company to find out what happened the person that answered promised to call me back of course this never happened. I called back and no I get an answering service. Big John Roofing is very Small when it comes to customer appreciation and satisfaction.

I called Big Joh For My roof repair , found them on the Web.He came quickly, on a Tuesday. I told him what was going and he advised me how he was going to repair all the water bubbles and the replace the skylight. At a cost of $7,000, Well a few months after the skylight began leaking, I was able to go onto the roof before he repaired the skylight and roof, after he was done it was impossible to get on the roof, the skylight was just placed on the opening. It was not attached in any way to the opening ,and upon inspection the skylight is broken underneath. He didn't even give a hook to turn the skylight upwards he said i had to get one myself. Now to go up to the roof you have to hold the ladder in one hand(House ladder) use the other hand to hold the skylight and push it away from the opening completely and and or use a 2x4 to holdout up while you crawl through. the area around the skylight is leaking water into the interior walls, Johnny only painted the roof, all the water bubbles are now showing and the water has been settling under the rubber. He left the old skylight and the paint buckets and old paint stick on top of the roof. His contract clearly states that he will remove all garbage.
. He takes advantage of people in some neighborhood it appear to me.
He must be doing a good job or a bad job based on some kind of criteria.
His father blocks people when they call to complaint about the job, he gets angry and say you are negative thinking. They disappear when you need them.They say they are threatened when you call as an excuse because they know they have scammed you and don't want to come repair their work or hear from you. They answer promptly when called but when the work is shoddy and of poor quality they block you and don't answer your call. The positive reviews he got must be from his friends of people of certain neighborhoods that he cant mess with.
Big John Roofing is a SCAM, A FRAUD, He does Poor work and takes Advantage of people. and don't answer the phone to repair anything. They are very Arrogant. I give zero stars

This is after three jobs done already done for me. After having John fix the loft building and my uncles house last year,I called and he was going to be busy the next day which isn’t a problem, it’s a busy job so we planned for the following day.. Instead he finished that job, called me and showed up a day early. I never seen a guy so focused on how he wanted the job done. The roof is amazing and professionally done. Really Happy for what I got. My mom's roof is up for a repair and I'm going to have John fix it. His crew came and gets to work, they just know what they are doing. Thanks again John!

We had a wind storm so i needed an estimate for roof repairs. While scheduling the estimate I asked him if he knew anyone who could do an emergency tarp, he said they could at a reasonable price. They were literally here in 10 minutes and put it on which put me at ease because some rain coming.
