Al Clayton Construction Services

Al and I talked about what I wanted to do and he provided a quote. I asked for some changes and he provided another quote, then I asked about doing some of the work myself to reduce the cost and he sent another quote with some prep work and finish work put on my to do list. His carpenters replaced rotted framework under the front door, replaced the front door, added new front steps and a 6 x 9 roof over the steps. This required careful framework, hanging the front door, fussy work with vinyl siding, fussy work with asphalt shingles and careful planning to make the assembly to the dimensions I had asked for. The tasks Al left to me were all doable and required judgement on his part to to find tasks that I could do. Overall I was very pleased with the construction process and the result.

We hired Al Clayton recently to do 2 jobs that involved fixing or replacing sheetrock in various places in our home, and prepping our dining room so we can paint it. They did a phenomenal job! Prior to the work being done, Al and Mindy were wonderful at coming to our home and doing a complete review of what we needed. They gave us the name of the energy audit guy so we were able to get those items addressed as well. Mindy was great to work with on getting the estimates and scheduling. Wait time and pricing was extremely reasonable.

As for the jobs, they were able to fit both jobs jnto one weeks time. All the cracks, bumps, and water stains from a previous leak are gone. The areas that needed sheetrock replaced, you can't tell there was ever a problem there. Everything is smooth and clean. Speaking of clean, despite all the dust from the sanding and cutting, each day the guys left my home spotless. They were on time everyday and very professional. Looking forward to scheduling more jobs with Al Clayton and his team.

The gentleman did a fantastic job taking the sky lights and stove out, fixing the floor and putting up a new ceiling. They were maticulous in their work and even noted an electrical problem that needed to be addressed. We are more than satisfied with the work.

I've known Al for several years, from the time he worked for Bima at Power Guru. We needed a smallish spare bedroom converted into a second-floor bathroom by a deadline (wedding guests!) in our post-and-beam house in Pownal. It seems obvious now how everything should be arranged in the space, but I credit Al for thinking that through for us. The project turned out very well, though we ran out of time for Al to do the closet cabinetry we had planned. We originally wanted a tile shower stall, but cost and time issues decided us against it. We got a nice unit from FW Webb in Rutland, which is where we purchased the rest of our fixtures too (the glass door came from an outfit in Manchester). We hired our own plumber and electrician; Al worked well with them. The workmanship on the shower framing, door installation, etc. was excellent. Al did some of that himself, and the rest was done by his crew. The only point I would raise is timeliness. Al was juggling several jobs, as contractors do, but we had hoped he would get to us sooner. He did make our deadline, however, and we now have a very attractive and functional upstairs bathroom. Convenient in the middle of the night, too!

We have worked with Al for several home improvement projects over the last two years. Most recently he helped us update the kitchen with a new tile backsplash, upper cabinet replacements, window replacement and new hardwood floor. We're very pleased with the results of this job and the others.

Al is a true pro - thoughtful and responsive. He wants to understand exactly what you want, offers his expertise on how to best achieve it, and explains any potential complications and how to address them. His crew is also professional and courteous. However it's a relatively small team and Al's services seem to be in demand, especially in the warmer months, so you may have to be patient depending on the size and season of your job.

Obviously as repeat customers we're very happy with Al's work, and he will be our first call for our next project.

We have been working with Al and his crew since the beginning of 2022. We have had them move our front door, add a window, build new basement stairs, install drywall, move and install electrical outlets, switches, lights, tear off our old porch and replace it with a new porch. There might be more items I’m forgetting as this has been a major home project. We have been very happy with all the work but this review will focus on the first completed component to the project, which is our front porch. Due to inflation costs on materials, the porch plans we had drawn up a couple years back have been changed several times. Al has been a great help with the changes and has helped us stay within our budget, having budgeted out our porch ideas several times. He has made suggestions on materials and design in order to accommodate our needs while keeping costs down. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better contractor and I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone. Al frequently brings up suggestions and ideas that we wouldn’t have thought of, and has some great ideas to work around difficult house restraints. He is responsive, friendly, and really easy to work with. Our porch came out beautifully and we are so very happy!! Thanks so much, Al!!

Love the fact that Al and his team are reliable! Having talked about the projects that needed to be done was amazing! We talked about pricing as well as tossed around many different ideas.
It was so nice to be able to share my style dream kitchen with him, his energy of enthusiasm in making what I want happen.
It is hard to find someone that will take the time to understand a vision, but Al was ready to listen to my needs and was more than willing to answer any questions or concerns I had.

From start to finish Al and Paul were responsible, efficient, and timely. Among other tasks not listed above, Al and Paul repaired plaster walls and ceilings. We have full confidence in their work and will not hesitate to call on them in the future.
