I contacted A & J Roofing because they installed a brand-new roof on my home about 14 years ago, with a 20-year guarantee on labor and 30 years on materials. My roof recently started leaking into my daughter's bedroom and onto the front porch, so I reached out to them for help. Jon answered the phone and asked me to text him my address and he would come by and inspect the issue.
When Jon arrived on Tueaday,10/1/2024 he immediately stated that A & J Roofing was no longer in business because his brother had retired and he had taken over the business, but I immediately realized he was lying—he looked just like Jon, only older, and he even had the same name as his brother. I let it slide and asked for an estimate anyway. He said some nails had popped out, the chimney needed flashing, and I needed leaders on the front of the house to prevent rainwater from spilling over. He quoted me $750 for the job, or $700 if I paid in cash.
I asked the normal questions like, about how long the job would take and when he could start? Jon said he could do the work on Friday, 10/4/2024. I was about to follow up, but he took a phone call and I didn’t have time to wait, so I gestured that I’d call or text him with my response later.
To my shock, on Wednesday, 10/2/2024, Jon showed up at my house unannounced and completed the job without my authorization. When I asked for before-and-after pictures of the work, Jon claimed he couldn’t provide them because the 3 nails on the roof had been "glued" and that the "tuna chimney" flashing was a small spot. Now he’s demanding payment for a job that I never authorized and that he can't prove was done properly.
This experience has been deeply frustrating and unacceptable. Jon’s actions without my approval, and his refusal to provide proof of the work are major red flags. I strongly advise against hiring Jon or A & J Home Remodeling LLC. This behavior feels fraudulent, and I would not trust him with any work on your property.
I cannot say enough, how happy we are with John, A&J Remodeling and the work they did on our roof!
He is professional, knowledgeable and conservative, which I love and is what made me know he knew his craft. He gave us two options and his honest opinion on our issue and we trusted his choice and hired him. We are happy to say that we have found our roofer for our home :)
I highly recommend them for your next job!
