True Handyman is the best!
We had a HUGE bathroom leak that majorly messed up 2 rooms in our house—one upstairs and one downstairs. After water mitigation, we had no luck finding anyone who could help with repairs: all other companies were either too busy or ghosted us.

I wish I’d found True Handyman sooner. They are responsive, reasonable in pricing, and upfront about everything. Special shout out to Dugan, who did most of our repair work, and Heather in the office who was super helpful with scheduling. We are so happy with our house and the repairs!

We hired True Handyman to renovate two bathrooms for us and could not be more pleased. Great workmanship, attention to detail, and work ethic. Adam and Dugan were respectful, showed up on time each day, left a clean working space, and were fantastic to work with. Would definitely recommend True Handyman, and in fact plan to use their services again!

Jason and True Handyman have been doing projects small and large for my family since he started the business. They have fixed wood rot issues, installed new bathroom fan and painted for us. They completely redid a bathroom that had water damage from a failed shower pan. They always do a great job at a very fair price. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for my handyman needs.

True Handyman did a super job replacing the floor and installing a new door on my outdoor storage shed. They were professional, knowledgeable, and polite, qualities hard to find that these days! They also referred me to other contractors for work outside of their scope, and that was helpful as well, as I hate to use ANYONE without a recommendation. Thanks so much, Tim!

Be aware, probably good people personally but awful professionally. A poor experience over one year in the making. All started off good with this company. They did some good fencing and deck work for me. But even then when it came time to paint the deck, there was paint over spray all over my landscaping rocks and timbers underneath of the deck. I will say on those first two occasions there were billing discrepancies in which the owner acknowledged and made adjustments for. They spoke highly about their skills for tile and bathroom remodels so I decided to give them a shot. It turned into a cluster that spiraled out of control. Some of it is not the owner's fault as he was experiencing difficulty with employee turnover. The employee that started the job cut corners on the paintwork and tile work, and in less than a year I've got paint flaking off the walls. The tile job is not acceptable, lots of crooked tiles and uneven lines. The shower door was installed crooked heavy on the silicone. There were two bathrooms involved both of which needed painted, the second bathroom went wrong, so they actually had to get a painting contractor to fix their mistakes. In the beginning of the job they gave me a quote of $11,000 to work on 3 bathrooms. The 3rd bathroom was supposed to be a complete remodel of everything except for stripping out drywall. Because of their issues we never got to the 3rd bathroom however when it came time to discuss the bill for bathrooms 1 and 2 he wanted almost $9000. Makes no sense that mud, paintwork and a shower install between the two bathrooms is $9000 but a complete remodel w/ vanity, toilet, tile, and tub for the 3rd bathroom is about $2000?? There were a few back and forth discussions with the owner. It took them four months to actually send me a bill. We had a conversation why I did not agree. It took another several months for them to send me an adjusted bill which still had items from the 3rd bathroom that were never completed. I pushed back on that adjusted invoice requesting the items in the 3rd bathroom that were never touched be removed. Almost another four months goes by and I get a text reminder for the same amount still including the items that were never touched. I called, worked it out with the office manager, we agreed to a reduced amount. I still feel I overpaid for shoddy workmanship. In my experience I recommend you do not use this company if you value quality work and expeditious business practices. Use a real contractor.

The owner came to my house to give me an estimate, and during our conversation about the work he told me he does not usually do estimates, and the guy is on vacation and will contact me next week when he returns. I wondered why is he here and since he owns and started the company on his own he must do estimates since in the beginning it was just him. Well I went along and just told him I look forward to hearing from the estimator. We'll next week came and went and no call. I called the office and left a message and still no reply.
He obviously has the right to pick the customers he wants to work with but it would have helped not waste 5 days of my time if he would have disclosed that in our meeting.
This gentlemen stood right in front of me and lied which tells me he is capable of lying about anything. I am glad he is not doing my kitchen but wanted to share my experience so others know about this when they make a choice for a contractor, they probably don't want someone who will waste their time.

My parents have used these guys for multiple jobs through their house. As they are no longer able to handle much of this themselves, True Handyman has been a lifesaver.

True Handyman is truly great! I had a stuck sump pump in my crawl space. It was pouring rain. Jason came out on a last minute call, crawled through the water and got it working! Great guy! Great service! Fair price! What more could anyone want!

Frank was very professional. He installed a hammock chair in my daughter’s room, taking great care to ensure it was secured to the appropriate beam. Would recommend this company and plan to use them again in the future.

Moral of the story, the estimator took a week to contact me, had to reschedule once, was late to 2nd appointment, and lacked [basic] knowledge of project. TWENTY DAYS after I initially contacted True Handyman, LLC he said they weren't a good fit, and recommended me to 2 local companies, one of which doesn't do this kind of work, who actually referred me to True Handyman in the 1st place...Yeah, no. Could never recommend this to anyone.

I [almost] never write bad reviews, so a full account of my experience is below.

Originally, we contacted this business on December 01, 2022. Heather answered the phone, and she was very kind. In fact, she is the reason I'm leaving the extra star. After listening to my request, she asked me to send some detailed information. In this case, pictures, measurements, links, etc.

The project was for interior door replacement (6-9 doors), and a 9"x9" drywall patch.

On December 02, 2022, she responded to me that "Tim" would reach out, and schedule a site visit; if needed. I thanked her. She was very nice, and quick to communicate.

The following week, on December 07, 2022, Mr. Grey (Tim) reached out to me, and did apologize for the delay, saying he'd like to stop by on Friday the 9th for a site visit. However, on Friday, he was unable to come and asked to reschedule to the following week on Tuesday.

The following week on Tuesday, as the appointment time approached, he let me know he was running about an hour late. It's not like I have to work to pay for home improvements...but... Thankfully, he had just put the wrong address into GPS so he was only about 20 minutes late. He did, in this exchange, suggest I probably didn't need solid doors, as he'd heard hollow doors were actually better at sound proofing...so that's a red flag. (STC Ratings he was also not familiar with).

He looked at the doors, measured one 32" (handicap accessible) and seemed a bit mystified as to why they were so wide . He suggested that it could be expensive at $150-$300 per door in labor, I told him it "cost what it cost to do a good job".

The following week, on December 20th, approximately 3 weeks after my initial inquiry, he sent me a short email saying True Handyman wasn't a good fit for the project, and to call on 2 other companies that do home remodeling, one of which suggested to me to call True Handyman for doors.

I will go to Home Depot for those drywall patch materials later today.

Verdict = Sad. ={

True Handyman is very unprofessional. Jacob's Ladder recommended True Handyman for a siding job. I told Tim on the phone what the job entailed and he made an appointment. He immediately announced the job was too big and he recommended Mueller Builders. He never mentioned that he wanted a kick back. I thought he was being nice. Jamie Sparks came out from Mueller. He was very nice. He gave me a price of $3200 but said he needed to contact Tim. Once he talked to Tim he announced that the price would be $3800 - Tim wanted a $600 kickback. Jacob's Ladder was not asking for kick back but Tim wanted 20% for giving my name to Mueller. I wrote to True Handyman several times, with no response. I asked if there was a vet or senior discount. I asked could I contract directly with Mueller and let Mueller pay Tim. I did not want to deal with a middle man - especially one who did not respond timely or at all. I did not want my warranty to be through True Handyman.

Instead of answering any of these questions - when can you start, can I contract directly ($3800), do you offer discounts, can I eliminate or change anything to bring the price down - I got an email stating True Handyman no longer would do the job.

You have to ask yourself - why do I know that Mueller would do the job for $3200? Because Jamie Sparks told me. Also why would I want to contract directly with True Handyman when they are so slow to respond - or not responding at all?

They unprofessional conduct proved to me that my feelings of not wanting to contract with them directly were well warranted.

True Handyman (Mitchell) completed a bathroom remodel for me and I couldn't be more pleased!

The quote was detailed and exactly as I stated (no corrections needed) Communication was good throughout the project so that I knew what to expect when. Mitchell asked questions when appropriate and offered good recommendations upon request and performed high quality work (no shortcuts). Best of all, the final outcome is beautiful and functional! Just what I wanted!

Everyone at True Handyman is a GEM! They are kind, considerate, professional, helpful and really, really, really good at what they do.
I had a wooden storm door incorrectly installed by a "carpenter" so that it would never lock. Hired a locksmith and a different handyman to look into it but the problem persisted. Jason actually fixed it by moving the door handle and you absolutely cannot tell it was moved--- the repair was perfect and it now locks.
Ronnie came to put in new bannisters in my deck -- it is like having a whole new deck.
And Mitchell retiled my kitchen, neatly taking out the really weird Escher black and grey and glittery tile the previous owner put in and replaced it with subway tile the grout lines of which are all perfectly straight [kind of an obession with me] and somehow magically he kept everything "even" even though the counter on one side of the stove is higher than the counter on the other side of the stove. I had him pick the grout color [who knew there are like 40 different colors - I just wanted "grey"] and what he picked was perfect
It can be stressful having strangers come to your beloved house and start ripping things out or drilling new holes in your expensive door, etc. It can be a bit of a crapshoot. With True Handyman you will immediately know you are in good hands. I feel like the team at True Handyman respects that this is your capital "H" home and proceed with their jobs accordingly. They will be my go-to for any home improvement they are willing to handle. So stop reading this review and contact them for an estimate!! You really will be happy that you did.

We have hired True Handyman for a few jobs around our house from building our back porch stairs to general repairs, and we have always been very happy with the quality of their work, professionalism, and ease to pay for services online.

Message for Midlothian residents! This company is based in Henrico County, 22 minutes from my Midlothian home via Route 288 (per Google Maps). I sent them a detailed request for some very common services, waited 5 days, then got an email: "Sorry, you are well into our secondary territory and it would not be economical for you to use our services." Not sure if that's true. If they don't handle my area, shouldn't that be on their website? If they just don't want my business, they could say so and seem more professional than this experience. (My Zip is 23112)

Jason did superb, conscientious, thorough, and highly skilled work to address a wide range of problems with our newly-bought house. His efforts have made our house feel more secure against the elements, he fixed difficult doors that bedeviled us from the time we moved into the house, and he got our fireplace working! True Handyman has a fair pricing schedule, excellent people, and on-time, dedicated folks. I HIGHLY recommend them above all other such services in the Richmond region!

I have used True Handyman for projects big and small. They have always completed jobs to satisfaction and they always stand by their work. The only thing to keep in mind is that sometimes they get really busy so you want to call them in advance whenever possible just in case. It's just a sign of how much their clients trust them and recommend them to others. We've gotten such a personal touch from everyone, from the office manager to the repair techs to the owner. Couldn't be happier with their service and will most definitely use again.

Mitchell, from True Handyman, just finished up with a project my wife hired him for. Mitchell's work was exceptionally done, efficiently carried out, and he even cleaned up after. Not only was he amazing as a handyman, but he was able to clear every hurdle we threw his way. He put up with our mess of a new home and tight work spaces with our boxes everywhere. He dealt with our 2 obnoxiously invasive dogs and attitude filled escape artist cats. And throughout his work he took care, as best as could be imagined, to keep in mind that I slept all day and worked night shifts in the hospital. He offered up assistance beyond what was asked of him or what could reasonably be expected. He is fantastic worker and a thoughtful and friendly human being. I hope you value him to the fullest and know what an asset his work and personality are to your team.

We are absolutely blown away by our first experience with Jason at True Handyman. One day, we suddenly noticed that our microwave and the above cabinet were on the brink of falling off the wall. I contacted probably 8 different places because I knew this issue was urgent. True Handyman got back to me within 24 hrs. Not only that, but Jason came after regular business hours to get the job done because my work hours are very rigid and abnormal. Jason was friendly, polite, competent, wore a mask and really cared about getting the job done as fast as possible so as not to over-bill us. The end product looks fantastic. We could not have had a more positive experience and will certainly be using True Handyman again. High recommendation!!

I've been a homeowner for over 25 years and used many contracting/handyman services in the Richmond area. True Handyman leads the field of all the companies I've hired for general services (jobs not requiring a licensed electrician or licensed plumber). Garnet was an excellent estimator. He listened carefully to my home repair needs and offered fair market value prices regardless of how small the needed repair. Chris (expertly skilled handyman) spent 4 days at my home replacing a shed door, installing lighting fixtures, repairing floor molding, replacing a mailbox post, and doing exterior painting. He even installed a custom designed cement platform for an exterior lamp post! Also, Page, the Office Manager, did a great job of scheduling, answering my questions and handling financial details. True Handyman demonstrates values that are all but extinct in most services today: punctuality, clear communication, fulfilled promises and experts in their field. All of their staff are courteous and value the customer. True Handyman will be the first company I call for future home repairs and I highly recommend them.

I needed someone to do a laundry list of things at my sister's house. Chris and Matt were assigned to our project. Matt pressure washed the house, which was not on the list but a great idea to set us up for the remainder of the exterior work. Chris made the garage door look like new, painted the original stained bead board porch ceiling white, painted the columns, installed an LVT floor in the master bathroom including moving the toilet and sink, installed new weather stripping and hardware after sanding and painting three exterior doors, repaired and painted the bookshelf on the screened porch, and other smaller jobs to make the house perfect. He did a fantastic job and everything he worked on looked even better than I expected. I highly recommend this company for their versatility and end product. As I told Jason, Chris hit it out of the ballpark.

I can't attest to their work because they never got back to me with an estimate after reaching out to them twice. Although, I will say that Jason seem very knowledgeable about his work. And I felt really comfortable and confident in his ability to do a good job on the repairs that I needed done. I know my job is small, but it's is important to me because I’m selling my home and moving out of Virginia. And it has put me in a situation where I’ve had to call around for another contractor for my job in a short period of time.

Jason was fantastic! Very thorough, honest, and helpful with the estimate. Very much looking forward to working with him again soon!

Just a great experience..best handyman so far..he was able to get here quickly and did a meticulous and careful job for a reasonable rate..I recommend him highly.

Jason is great! He came to check out a possible roof leak at my house and to repair my back storm door which had torn from the hinges. The door seemed irreparable, but somehow Jason was able to fix it and I didn't have to buy a new one! For the roof leak, Jason went up on my roof numerous times and also checked inside my attic - ultimately he confirmed that there's no longer an issue with the roof and saved me money by not charging me for unnecessary repairs! I would definitely recommend calling True Handyman for any household repairs.

I highly recommend the services of True Handyman, LLC. They came out and fixed my toilet that was leaking and made sure that the problem was properly solved before leaving. I have been using this company for several years now. they do great work. Jason is very honest, his pricing is very fair. He or his staff show up when they say they are going to show up. They are very nice and polite. I never worry because I know they are going to do a great job.

Absolutely amazing experience. It's hard to put into one short review how incredible Jason and his team are. Both he and Oliver went above and beyond to help me surprise my wife on her birthday with a bathroom remodel. Who would have though you could strip wallpaper, prep drywall, prime, paint, install plumbing, put in fixtures and help with everything else that goes into a bathroom remodel in one day? Well these guys made it happen and had smiles on their faces the whole time. You can really tell they love what they do and man do they do it well.
