S.J. Janis was very responsive when I called to have a garage roof beam inspected that was splitting. It is the main beam in the garage. The carpenter came in terrible weather to inspect and followed-up the next day with two 14 foot 2x4 to support the beam to ensure our roof didn't collapse. Their responsiveness and professionalism is greatly appreciated as we determine the best solution to the problem.

Our house is a 1927 Historical Registered Tudor in Waukesha. The renovations included virtually all of the first floor making this an extensive renovation with a lot of demolition as well as construction. All of the early demolition was done in a way to minimize the dust and debris (we have plaster and lathe construction). The detail in design work was excellent and the finish product exceeded our expectations. Nick Sannes, Jayme Lippe, Joe Klein and, especially, Alton Oakes were excellent and easy to work with. Alton, our Lead Carpenter and Project Manager, went out of his way to make sure my wife and I were happy with his results. He exceeded that in almost all cases as we were generally thrilled with his work. Due to the size of the project with all of its interlocking pieces, the supply issues of 2022 were apparent. The job took two months longer to complete than initially planned but communication was always excellent and we never felt that we were being neglected. We would HIGHLY recommend S.J. Janis for major remodels!

In February of 2021, we contracted with S.J. Janis to do a basement remodel at our 1938 home in Milwaukee. The project included a rec room, bathroom and laundry room. From the start, our experience was completely positive. Starting with our initial meeting with Casey, we were set at ease as he ascertained what we wanted and gave us a general cost expectation and a realistic time frame to complete the project. As with most projects, ideas and desires may change but we always felt as though we were listened to as regards to what we wanted. (As opposed to one potential contractor who we had consulted about our project who only seemed interested in doing the project one way regardless of what we may have suggested). We went through several modifications of the plan eventually arriving at one we were completely happy with. Sarah was excellent in listening to our questions and thoughts and offered great suggestions for implementing changes to the plan.
It was necessary to do some added work to ensure water would not be an issue in the remodeled basement. S. J. Janis led us to competent professionals that remedied the potential problems
The construction phase of the project began in November of 2021 and the project manager was Greg. Once again, we were put at ease with him from the get-go and he was willing to promptly deal with any issues that came up during this phase. His carpentry work was superb. One of our close friends is a carpenter and when saw the finished work, he especially noted an area of fine work that was done on our accent walls. We just knew it looked good. But now we more than ever appreciate the attention to detail in Greg’s work.
We also appreciated that Greg handled all of the organizing of work detail with the other workers on the project. Unlike an addition project of 30 years ago, where we ourselves had to deal with our workmen, we were left worry-free as Greg handled all of the coordination.
In short, we would readily recommend S. J. Janis. There were professional, respectful and if any issues arose, they successfully dealt with them. For example, after the project was completed, one of the floor tiles came up in the rec room. We alerted Greg who got the ball rolling and one of the flooring specialists came back and fixed it. While there, he noticed that the floor tiles near the drain in the laundry room should have had a grout/filler in them and offered to complete that job, too. So grout/filler was ordered, and he came back and did that work too. It is this attention to detail and desire to complete a job to perfection that we really appreciated.

We did a full basement remodel with SJ Janis Company. They were excellent from start to finish. Their whole staff was helpful and professional. We met with Jim for the sales consultation and he really took time to understand our needs, and give a truthful and honest consultation about cost. He took time to help us think things through, and we never felt pressured or rushed. The design process was extra awesome because Joe was able to do some 3D architectural drawings which really made the project come to life. We had some tricky elements we wanted to work in, and some soundproofing requirements and they really did their research and took time to incorporate those things for us. Sarah was a super skillful in choosing design selections. She took time to really understand our style as family, and pulled things together within our budget quickly and efficiently. The project manager and lead carpenter Guy was amazing from start to finish. He was professional, personable, and an excellent communicator. Most importantly, his work is impecable. His skill and attention to detail for every single part of the project really is I think what made this project shine. For a project of this size we planned for disruption and snags, and to be honest there really weren't any. It was really smooth sailing thanks to Guy, and the team worked hard to make sure anything that came up was addressed transparently and swiftly. Thanks to SJ janis we have a beautiful basement, and we could not be happier.

After interviewing several companies, we selected S.J. Janis because of the careful listening, the initial process of consult and conceptual design, and the people we interacted with, led by Casey. Throughout each phase of design, project prep, demo, and build, we appreciated the unified approach of everyone involved with the project offsite and onsite. Every subcontractor, including referrals for appliances, fixtures and fireplace was excellent to work with. We truly valued and enjoyed working with each Janis staff member, with a clear understanding of their roles, and by the leadership of our project manager. Responsiveness and product selection of designer Sarah was so very important to us, given our busy schedule and need for ideas that matched our style and vision. Articulating our vision all began with Joe Klein. The carpenter crew stood out for the quality and passion of their workmanship. Given the total distruption of our kitchen and main living space, we felt our home was safe and clean at all times. Looking back at what was accomplished during the impact of Covid-19, our project tracked the original schedule so much better than should be expected. There were many acts of above and beyond care and diligence throughout the project. We continue to enjoy our bright, new, modern, functional and beautiful space. Grateful for the expertise of the S.J. Janis team!

We just finished an addition with SJ Janis and we have nothing but great things to say. Everyone was very professional, very nice and easy to work with. I work out of my home and this was an additional living room space, so I was a little worried about how this was going to go, but I never had any issues. All of the contractors were great and they always cleaned up before they left. Our PM, Josh, was awesome. I'm a business owner and mom so I am busy and would sometimes I would ask him questions after hours just so I didn't forget and he always got back to me soon after I texted him, which I really wasn't expecting him to do. The price was just a little higher than some other quotes, but not much and you definitely get what you pay for. This wasn't the type of job we were looking to do on a side job type of deal. They even fixed some other things in our home that weren't a part of the addition. Well worth every penny and we will recommend them to anyone looking to do work on their home. Thank you for the beautiful addition and thank you (and sorry) to everyone that had to deal with our very excitable and ridiculous dogs!!!

As an interior designer, I had the pleasure of partnering with SJ Janis on a renovation for my client. This renovation included a 2 room addition among other things. It was imperative that the exterior of the addition blend seamlessly with the original portion of the home - and SJ Janis nailed it.

I am looking for a remodel company. Used Google for the lead. Nice website. The contact form had a lot of questions, as I don't have all that kind of information I used the email link. I asked what is the ballpark timeline as we want to get moving on the project soon. I got email reply that asked another coworker if we should forward to sales or trash it.

I replied to the email. "Please don't trash my email if I am being copied."

The company called me to clear their confusion. However I hope in the future they take requests more seriously.

Great representation, but SJ Janis picks and chooses jobs they feel are beneficial to them. Makes sense, but disappointing for those who are seeking a great contractor but get declined.

Update: SJ Janis called back basically asking me to change my review. They used to have a 5 star review as they call and complain to posters to hopefully obtain a 5 star review. No company will ever be perfect, especially with a 5 star status. I assume they do great work, but business ethics are majorly lacking. Seek other honest customer focused contractors.

The SJ Janis team remodeled and expanded our kitchen space and expanded our living space by adding on a sun room. The design fits our home perfectly and we've enjoyed the new space for many years now. We are very pleased with the outcome!

SJ Janis was our primary contractor and designer for a large kitchen remodel that included taking down a load bearing wall and retorting plumbing, hvac and electrical systems to live inside beautiful columns in our island. They brought to the table extensive engineering experience, design know how and a high level of custom craftsmanship. They were the best contractor we've ever worked with and the entire project went very smoothly. I would recommend them to anyone.

They are all very professional from the guys in the design phase to the carpenters to the final walk-through. The project manager especially went out of his way on several occasions, and our principal architect is the best communicator! No skimping; everything quality! And no upsale!

S.J. Janis built a marvelous 4-season room as an addition to our home; this large project, from demo to completion, took approximately 3 months. We ended up with a spectacular space, better insulated than the rest of our home, with separate HVAC to moderate the heat and humidity generated by the enclosed spa. From the beautiful cedar ceiling to the extremely attractive and durable stamped concrete outside, this is a piece of art. They had excellent ideas for us along the way, for example, the use of Kardean Loose Lay flooring material - a great product that I had never heard off. From planning to project meetings to the actual construction, this was superlative work. Plus, zero punch list at conclusion!

We have done several projects with SJ Janis and will continue to use them in the future. They do high quality work, communicate extremely well, and finish on time, every time. I can't imagine having a better experience with remodeling.

My husband and I were very happy that we chose Sj Janis for our addition. We had a big project (new kitchen, sunroom, full basement) and we needed a company that would be able to manage it. They finished on time (actually early) and stayed within the budget. They have relationships with the area tradesmen that goes back decades. The workmen that came to the house were on time and professional. Any questions or concerns we handled immediately. Most importantly, the finished product looks amazing. The attention to detail really stands out. I would not hesitate to recommend SJ Janis to anyone.

S J Janis Company has performed three different remodeling projects on our home over the last 10 years. Each one was professionally and timely.

We have a Cape Cod home and they added an addition above the first floor master bedroom and remodeled our upstairs bathroom. The second renovation was a complete remodeling of our kitchen, breakfast room and living room. The last renovation project was the complete demolition and remodel of our master bathroom and closet space.

Janis made sure to keep the area under construction as clean as possible and put up barriers so the areas that were not being remodeled were as unaffected as possible.

They did an excellent job of listening to our wants and needs as they worked with us on the budget and various designs. The construction schedule that was conservative and achievable so our expectations were more than met when they finished on time or ahead of schedule.

In the last few years we have started using their 'handyman' service. We accumulate various medium size type projects, call Janis and they come right out and complete the items.

We highly recommend them.

I have had several positive experiences with S.J. Janis over a period of approximately 12 years. The first project they completed was finishing our basement. This project was completed during the promised time frame and our family has had many years of enjoyment using the basement, complete with full bathroom. Our second project was a master bath remodel. They went beyond my expectations with the design, the respect of our home (always cleaning up at the end of the day) and the finished project. Our last and most recent project was the replacement of windows in four rooms in our home. I could have done the project directly with the window company, but chose S.J. Janis because of the trust we have developed with them over the years. I gave them a very short window (no pun intended) to complete the project and it was completed in that time frame. I am happy to recommend them for any home project and would gladly call them again should I have a need.
