Singh Contracting, Inc. - Fort Pierre, SD

Services I used were for a total residential roof and gutter replacement. Singh Contracting, Inc. is a basic General Contractor. Representatives from Singh were only on the property to do the initial estimate. Only their subcontractors worked on my property; Singh's representatives did not even inspect the finished work.

Buyer beware if you live in a Mechanics Lien state, and most of us do. This company uses virtually no formal paperwork other than their final invoice. There is no standard contract, no workmanship warranty, no payment terms, no proof of financial responsibility, no schedule for on-site subcontractors, and no professional services rating similar to Better Business Bureau.

Positive comments: Jimmy Brouilliard, Singh's Rapid City, SD representative, was spot on with the estimate. He did all of his own work and did not ask for my insurance adjuster's analysis. When complete, the assessment was within $250 of the insurance settlement plus deductible. All materials used were above minimum requirements and compatible with modern roofing requirements. I believe his follow-up and customer service are limited by company ownership.

I found the subcontractor's work to be excellent. Before retirement, I had roof installation experience. DG Contracting (roof labor/installation) did outstanding work on my residence. As far as I can determine short-term, there were no shortcuts with this job. There was one issue with the installation that DG Contracting/Singh resolved immediately.

I can say the same for Kenny with Get Real Construction's rain gutter install. Excellent work, as Kenny corrected many flaws with the existing gutter system. The gutter system not only looks good, but it functions as it should.

On the negative side: When I asked for evidence (Mechanic's Lien Releases) that my residence title was clear, there was a complete melt-down on the part of Singh's ownership. Providing these releases is a regular part of a reputable, professional General Contractor. Even without written payment terms, I provided Singh evidence that I had two Cashier's Checks that I would release to them provided they supplied the appropriate Mechanic's Lien Releases. There was never any attempt on my part to avoid or delay payment. Seven days passed before I received a phone call and was verbally attacked and demeaned by ownership.

Lessons learned: First, Singh's folksy TV ads and social media are bogus. My experience is that the ownership of this company has zero customer service or people skills. That said, I would recommend DG Contracting and Get Real Construction outside of Singh Contracting. Lastly, having experienced firsthand how ownership resorts to juvenile name-calling in dealing with his bill-paying customers, I don't have any confidence that any future issues, should they occur, would be handled with any certainty.

Great company. Easy to work with. Expeditious. Courteous. They helped me every step of the way to make sure that the job was done right and on time. I highly recommend these guys.

I misunderstood the company polices concerning payments. I am sorry for my previous post and they are working with me concerning balance owed. Their work on my roof, as I previously stated was top notch.
