Had Pete conduct a repair when we first moved in - all in all a great job. Second time around 3 years later a different story

Very rude, self serving, and aggressive. Tells the client they are wrong before they can get a word out. Showed up for an estimate in his slippers and sweat pants like he just rolled out of bed and talked over me the entire time.

Great experience with Pete to rebuild portions of our chimney stack and make minor roof repairs. Pete showed up exactly on time for the estimate (on a Sunday, no less) and he and his crew were also exactly on time for the job as well. Crew cleaned up very well. Very clear and prompt communication. Fair pricing.

Honest professional service . Showed up exactly on time as promised. Squeezed us into a busy schedule at his peak business time. We will be using Pete for years to come.

Fantastic service! Pete cleaned our chimney and attached a new hose for our dryer vent (and cleaned the connections as well). He was fast, honest, and professional (he responded right away, explained what needed to be done AND what didn't). Focused on chimney and dryer working safely, but also left everything spotless. He didn't overcharge and didn't oversell. Clearly very experienced. We will definitely use Pete's Chimney again!

Pete came to see if I needed a sweep in 2021. He said it was okay for the up coming season and to call him in 2022 if I use the fireplace semi regular. He mentioned some brick and mortar work but said I should be fine.
2022, after some above average usage, Peter came with his crew for a sweeping and with a follow up addressed the masonry work. Crew was on time, neat considering the work being done, cleaned up residue as expected. I'm totally pleased with the service that was provided.

I am VERY happy with the job Pete and his crew did at my home. My chimney needed the flashing to be replaced and the shoulder on the chimney needed to be repaired. I had other quotes that were very high. Pete gave me two options that were reasonably priced. Bet of all he educated me on what was ailing my chimney! Whenever I’ve had a problem with my roof, chimney or gutters, I text Pete. His response time is lightning fast! And, he shows up when he says he will. In fact, he often arrives earlier than planned!

Pete has done a number of different things for me over the past 4 years…gutter cleaning, chimney cleaning, chimney restoration/maintenance and even had his team remove an errant drone from my roof (it was not mine!), but the most recent work was the most impactful. After the recent storm, my 19 year old roof sprung a leak! While Pete indicated the problem area could be repaired, due to the age of the roof, I decided to go all in and replace it. Within a week, I had an estimate I’d challenge anyone in the industry to beat and the work began. Over 2.5 days, Pete’s team worked their butts off to replace my roof. Not only was their work impeccable but they also were diligent about cleaning up! I am not at all worried about finding roofing nails in my driveway or lawn.

And Pete…well, Pete is so incredibly knowledgeable about his trade. He is one of the most decent men around and is such a pleasure to deal with. He never pushes more than what is actually needed. He is open to conversations about future improvements and makes reasonable and honest recommendations. It is obvious how much pride he takes in the work performed and how he continues to value both his customers as well as his reputation. Pete also makes his rounds to check on the work and its progress…sometimes you won’t even know he was there (I caught you on my Ring camera, Pete!).

Since the purchase of my home i have had issues with water going into my basement. I further went on to get new roofing and sidings and caulk numerous areas with negative results. I finally called Pete and got my chimney repointed as well as waterproofed. I can say i finally got the issue resolved. True professional i had roof work done and job was done professionally and at a reasonable price i would truly recommend petes chimney to anyone who needs roof repairs.

I contacted Pete at 10:45am with concerns about a broken flue damper. After speaking on the phone, he was at my home same day at 12:30pm. Incredible. He showed up masked-up, professional, and friendly. He inspected my fireplace and was immediately able to tell that this was an easy fix that didn't require repairs. Pete saved me over $800 of replacement parts and inspection. All he charged me was his reasonable visit and service fee. You cannot put a price on honestly and sincerity. After other chimney companies gave me an estimate of over $400 months ago, Pete walked in and solved all my fireplace problems without taking advantage of me.

This level of professionalism, trade knowledge, and honesty is refreshing. I would recommend him to everyone.

I got a text back within a few minutes, came to the house within an hour to take a look, and came back the next day to complete the service and install a new damper system. How is it that you’re so quickly resulting to juvenile name calling? I wouldn’t let my four-year-old speak that way to someone with whom she disagreed.

We hired your company to provide us an initial assessment of our fireplace, and unfortunately the assessment itself was not helpful because it was confusing to both my wife and me. Trust me, when my wife read your comment about my questions posed to you as only my trying to impress her, she laughed. I really don’t know how you got the impression that my genuine questions were really a front to make myself look knowledgeable on chimneys, to my wife.... That’s just not even close to the truth. Further, it’s one thing to make a comment like that. It’s another thing to then call me delusional.

My purpose in writing that review was to share our experience with your company, after you abruptly cut off my conversation with you as I was trying to figure what I needed to do to get the chimney into working order.

I don’t know how you could be insulted in my dialogue with you, which was my attempt to learn about a topic from someone who’s a supposed expert in it.

I don’t wish bad on you, or your company, but do hope you’ll take this as a wake up call to rethink how you treat people.

You might first reconsider calling someone a name like “butt hurt” or “Pinocchio” as I saw you refer to another customer. Honestly, you should be embarrassed.

For some reason Pete didn’t seem to have the patience for my questions at the beginning of the appointment.

Neither I nor my wife could follow his line of reasoning/assessment of our fireplace, and so when my questions continued he flatly gave me the options of just paying $90 for the service call or paying his company $193 to clean out the chimney. (Cleaning didn’t take even 5 mins)

We moved to our house only recently. This is our first home with a fireplace, so it was dirty and hadn’t been used in likely a long time. Furthermore, we know nothing about them, so this was our first time trying to assess what could be done to get some use out of it.

I wouldn’t refer Pete or his company. Hopefully this is not normally how appointments are conducted.

Pete and his team fit me in quickly during busy season as a new customer. The team arrived on time, were clean, extremely efficient, and very fairly priced. Pete is super knowledgeable and honest. He assessed our faulty woodburning fireplace chimney, gave us advice on how to tackle needed repairs, and even connected me with someone in his network that could do the work. I will use this company again and again!

Unprofessional... Pete was upset that I received a few estimates for a chimney repair which he also quoted. His scope of work on estimate was inflated at a price of $4700. I had the repairs to my chimney issue done for $450. HUGE difference! He was upset that I questioned his estimate and refused to come work for me moving forward. He had no problem bad mouthing the other chimney companies which had estimated the same job. Additionally, I had a credit of $150 on my account, for a home inspection item that was not done. Upon my request for refund of this credit, Pete decided it was appropriate to deduct an estimate fee of $89 AFTER THE FACT! He called me many unprofessional names and hung up the phone on me, which was appalling for any reputable place of business to treat their customers. The irony of all of this was that I used Pete originally for a home inspection through a recommendation of one of my friends. I can not in good faith recommend Petes chimney. He may do good work on a good day but a customer should never be treated as I was. Hire Pete with reservation and get other estimates.

Pete was highly recommended to me. I called him the same morning. He went to inspect the chimney. Within 45 minutes of our call, he sent me videos of the inspection. Pete's extremely professional and polite. I highly recommend him also. Thanks Pete!

After several years of gutter cleanings, minor repairs, and this past spring the installation of a new roof, I highly recommend Pete's Chimney & More:

1. Honesty. Peter provides a forthright, "customer-first" assessment of whatever issue you bring to him. I respect that this will include a) recommendations that mean less business for him in the near term (do the minor repair not the major replacement, or "wait and watch"), and b) clear identification of when a problem is out of his wheelhouse. (Although he has recommended other good local vendors to use when he knows of one.)

2. Quality. I have been satisfied with all of the work Peter and his crews have done for my home. Part of it is probably the quality of the workers he brings to jobs, but it's also that unlike many other providers, Pete is on site not just at the start and end of a major job, but at several checkpoints throughout.

3. Customer service. I can honestly say, I've never had a local business respond as promptly to messages or get a crew out on an urgent issue as quickly as Peter. He also accommodated (at no charge) a small but last minute change to the scope of work on my roof which provided me substantial peace of mind (and saved me future headache and money to address)

4. Fair price. He's not the cheapest, but his prices are very competitive for the Clarkstown area and a very good value for the reasons above.

If you don't want to read the whole review (it's on the long side), here's the summary: Pete’s Chimney and More is a business that will exceed all of your expectations with work that is first rate and an owner who goes out of his way to make the experience so user friendly that for once you won’t dread the process of needing to have work done on your house. And now for the details…

We needed to have the chimney on our house repaired. I called Pete’s Chimney, as I had water leaking into the attic from a crumbling chimney. Even though the answering machine said that they were on vacation, within minutes I received a return call from Pete and had set up an appointment for the day after New Years. When I picked up my mail on 12/31, however, the estimate was already in my mailbox with a clear itemization of the work that needed to be done. The estimate was more than fair, and given his willingness to come out on a holiday, I knew immediately we were moving ahead.

Pete runs his business as if he is taking care of his family, as you feel as if your problem is his problem. He was able to make an appointment for the end of the week, keeping in touch with me to let me know when he was coming, what to expect, etc. The work is actually for my mother’s house, and as she is elderly and disabled, he went out of his way to make sure she would be comfortable with all of the plans. Ultimately, he was able to move the work up a day taking advantage of the nice weather, calling me to make sure that this would work for my mother.

When his team arrived, they immediately got down to work not even stopping to come inside to warm up, and it was a very brisk day! (They even passed on pizza in order to keep working!) The work done was top-rate, with the chimney angles crisp and clean. The work area was tidy the entire time and was left immaculate looking better than when they had started. (I’m not making this up; they had a leaf blower to make sure nothing was left amiss!)

When the team left, I had a question for Pete and within minutes of texting him, he replied. I called him, and he went through his answer in detail explaining how the chimney had been reconstructed. While his answer far exceeded my question, I so appreciated his willingness to spend the time making sure I was completely satisfied with all parts of the job. In the end, the job was even more thorough than I had expected, and I now look forward to my new chimney’s long life!

So often, and rightfully so, people write reviews when things don’t go well. I’m not sure that we spend as much time writing reviews when things go well. In this case, I could not be happier or more pleased with my interactions from start to finish with Pete’s Chimney and More. Pete’s integrity as a business owner and the expertise of his team stand out making me thrilled to see that he offers many other services that we will be able to use in the future. My chimney needed serious repair, to the point where birds got in. Pete and his team came over quickly, had the entire top replaced, a bird removed, and chimney cleaned out by the afternoon. There were no water leaks from the heavy rain recently, and it looks great. High quality work, high quality service, fair price! I would recommend Pete, and will use him again in the future if need be.

We called Pete after receiving inadequate service and an astronomical quote for further service from a local business. Pete came free of charge to take a look at our fireplace and chimney. I used Pete to clean my chimney and never had an issue with them. Unfortunately I was offered a great "deal" from an out of town service in the spring who then convinced me that I needed a liner, for which I paid $1300. It turned out my chimney cannot accept a liner without the smoke from the fireplace backing up all through the house. It took police intervention to get a refund and I will stick with Pete's Chimney service from here on in. He's reliable, honest and LOCAL!
