Update to MDR response. The issue with incomplete siding, gutters & chimney cap were not addressed. In regards to the gable wood, a supplement should’ve & could’ve been filed but you choose not to despite multiple reassurances that it would be taken care of.
Our experience with Mighty Dog Roofing (MDR) has been far from satisfactory following storm damage caused by the tornado that hit Livonia. Unfortunately, the process has been marked by significant delays, poor communication, and incomplete work. Below is a detailed timeline of events & a few pictures to highlight the issues:
June:
* 6/5: Date of loss.
* 6/6: Tree removal.
* 6/6: Mighty Dog Roofing was referred by the mitigation company and came to inspect our home.
* 6/25: I received an estimate from State Farm and provided it to Mighty Dog Roofing.
July:
* 7/10: I received a text from salesman Zac regarding an estimated start date of 7/24.
* 7/18: The mitigation company returned due to water intrusion in the kitchen.
* 7/23: Inquired with Zac about the start time, and he informed me that a new estimate was sent to State Farm that day, pushing back the start date.
August:
* 8/7: Roof, decking, rafters, soffit box, and some siding were replaced. Made the first payment to MDR.
* 8/8: Contacted Zac, Patrick (office manager), and Kevin (owner) about an issue with the crooked gable & siding being installed instead of soffit in the box.
* 8/16: The first inspection was disapproved due to missing hurricane clips on the new rafters and required electrical caulk around wiring.
* 8/26: The second inspection was partially approved. While clips and caulk were approved, the roof was improperly ventilated and required a ventilated drip edge and baffles up the rafter cavities.
September:
* 9/13: The third inspection was disapproved. Although a ventilated drip edge was added, the roof deck was not cut back to allow airflow. Baffles did not extend fully up the rafter cavity, and hurricane clips had incorrect nails, with some nail holes left unfilled.
* 9/18: Fourth inspection received approval to install insulation and drywall.
* 9/18: Kevin (owner) texted that the siding would be completed by 10/1 and gutters by 10/3. When I asked if the front gable would be straightened at the same time, Kevin confirmed it would be.
* 9/27: Made the second payment to MDR, which included the remaining balance for the roof, siding, gutters, and flue cap.
* 9/28: Moved back into the home.
* 9/30: Kevin called to inform me that siding and gutters would not be done, as the crew had gone to Asheville for hurricane relief.
October:
* 10/3: Work was done on the soffit box. However, I returned home to find the soffit box still slanted. I texted Kevin but received no response.
* 10/7: Texted for updates on siding, gutters, and the flue cap. No response from Kevin.
* 10/9: Sent a follow-up text. Kevin responded, stating I needed to hire an HVAC company for the chimney work (even though I had already paid MDR for the flue cap). No further updates were given on the siding and gutters.
November:
* 11/25: I learned that MDR had not included straightening the gable in their supplement estimate to State Farm. Despite pointing out this issue multiple times and being assured by MDR that it would be taken care of, I was left with the impression it was already included in the estimate. It seemed illogical to complete the siding and then have to remove it to fix the gable afterward. Although I paid for the gutters, they remain incomplete, and the siding has not been fully finished. Additionally, even though I paid MDR for the flue cap, I had to hire another contractor to handle the job before I could safely turn on the heat.
Overall, my experience with Mighty Dog Roofing has been both frustrating and stressful. After experiencing significant storm damage to our home, MDR assured us they would make our home whole again. The delays, constant lack of communication, and incomplete work have left us with unresolved issues that we are still dealing with. Despite their promises, the job remains unfinished.
