Midwest Roof Renovations

In August 11, 2021 Midwest Roof Renovations began an installation of a new metal roof on our ranch house. By noon of that same day the first of several large thunderstorms unloaded on our house. At that time the roof on our house was completely removed (bare wood sheeting) and not a single square foot of tarp was installed. Rain was forecasted this day and any standard weather app showed the impending rain. With no protective covering rain began to pour through the ceiling, light fixtures, cabinets, etc. into the interior of the house. By mid-afternoon of that first day roughly 3" of rain had fallen inside our house as measured by a vase that captured the water in our kitchen. The rain continued into the house with each passing rain storm. The walls and ceiling became so waterlogged that it began to rain in our basement. Installation continued a second day along with the rain. Any measures the installers had made to protect the exposed roof at that point did nothing to stop water from entering our house. With each passing rainstorm we were left to fight off the seemingly endless amount of water coming into the house.

The roof installation was eventually completed but our house was inhabitable. My family then spent 183 days living in a hotel while we waited for our house to be repaired. We're approaching the 11 month anniversary of this event and while we are back in our house the restoration still isn't complete.

The final inspection took place about a week after it's completion while we lived in a hotel so my time looking over the quality of work was limited to the 15 minutes walking around with the salesman. Looking at 9+ months later the quality is average. The work done around the chimney is poor. There are visible pieces of unpainted metal which once noticed are quite an eyesore. Trimming bushes in the front of our house this summer I discovered large amounts of roofing material that wasn't cleaned up. Around our gas fireplace exhaust on the roof has such poor clearance that with every gust of wind we have to listen to the grinding of metal echo through the house.

I paid in full. While we were completely upended by this event I can't say this company did anything to make it right. They just wanted to make sure they got paid. Too bad they didn't want to watch the weather or take any responsibility for their ineptitude. If I had known choosing this company would result in 6 months in a hotel during birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Halloween, etc., I clearly would have chosen anyone else. I would recommend anyone reading this to do the same.

I had leaks in my roof and called Midwest Roof. He scheduled to come out soon and was very pleasant. He inspected the roof but did not recommend repair due to the age and condition of the roof. He was very accommodating and gave a great price on the new roof. I was a bit wary of going with him after looking at the BBB. I talked to him about it and got his life story. He had a partner for a while when he had health issue to take care of. He has since been going back to prior unhappy clients and trying to fix and rectify the situation. There is evidence towards this by his answering the complaints on BBB as seen on BBB website. He got the roof done on the date scheduled. The crew cleaned everything up. He was very responsive to phone calls and text. I'm very happy with his service.

Edited 10/25/22 Ed threw in free gutterguards. Then his machine broke and it took months to get a new machine (so he said.) I texted him every 1-2 months for updates. He last responded in August. I've sent multiple text and phone calls in October with no reply. Not sure what happened to him, would like to give him the benefit of the doubt but you would think someone running a business would have someone answer the phone.

This roofing company gets an A++ from us! They showed up on time with eight roofers and completed our roof in one day! Excellent workmanship and very congenial workers. We highly recommend them!
