I tried working with him for over a year to complete the roofing job he was paid for. Fasteners remained protruding and the overspray from his roof coating landed on other parts of the structure. I must have 75 texts back and forth with him with a sea of promises to finish. Alas, the wis-bang sales guy failed to complete the job. I'd like to work it out with him but looks like small claims court is the only resolution as he no longer responds.

J.White Contracting installed both shingle and metal roofs on our home, garage, and shed. They were professional and performed excellent work. We also appreciate the opportunity to support a local business.

Can't give a zero or I would. First job I hired them for looked good so I hired them for a second. They started the second and said it was complete. I was out of town and sent along a check given the apparently good work they did on the first. They never completed the job. Then the second job developed a leak. Impossible to get a call back. Their website does not include the name they actually are registered with the state under and their company address is just where mail goes so you can't find them in person. It appears as if they are set up to avoid being found or properly identified after they get paid. If you contract with them I'd get proof of insurance and the actual name they are incorporated under. I think they were a good company and are now coasting on reputation.

I highly recommend J.White Contracting for their deck construction services. They built a stunning deck for me, and it has become the perfect spot for hosting gatherings and relaxing outdoors. Their attention to detail and craftsmanship are truly commendable.

I have waited a year to leave this review, thinking that this could be resolved amicably — but at the urging of our neighbors, I now think it’s my responsibility to warn others not to engage with this business. John and his team did such a shoddy job with a simple roof repair that we suffered three severe leaks that resulted in over $70,000 in water mitigation and reconstruction costs. Unfortunately, our homeowners insurance policy does not cover bad contractors so we are out (almost) all of that money. This could have been resolved by John engaging his own insurance company, but he’s ghosted us and the State Attorney General’s Office repeatedly. The latest advice from the state AG was to file a police report, which we will be pursuing. Please save yourselves the heartache (and financial ruin) that we experienced and go with anyone else. Happy to share the information of the upstanding roofers who finally did a fantastic repair job.

We hired JWhite Contracting to paint our roof in the fall of 2021. The commutation was great from the start right through the job being completed. On the day of the painting there were some issues of unprofessional behavior from the crew, including a near fist fight between two workers in my back yard. But I was willing to let it slide so long as the job was completed.

The roof looked good, but there was damage to the lawn due to spilled paint. Again I over looked the lawn damage because I was just happy to have the work done.

Come spring 2022 the snow came off the roof and revealed a large amount of the new paint had come off the roof. We contacted John immediately and he apologized and promised to have a crew come in 2 weeks time to fix our roof. Then we heard nothing. We reached out repeatedly through the summer and fall via phone and text and got no further response.

In the spring of 2023 more paint came off after the snow melted and I decided to give John one more call and he actually answered. He apologized and promised the get a crew out to fix the job in May once the weather warmed up.

I touched base a couple of weeks later letting him know I was trying to schedule solar panel installation but needed to know when the painting would be complete. He assured me it would be complete by early June at the latest and I should go ahead and schedule the installation.

I scheduled for early July thinking it would be safe and give a month of buffer time. I informed John of the timeframe and he said it was no problem. Early June came and I called John and was told that it would actually be mid June. He gave me an exact date and time, but no one showed up.

He texted me later that day saying he couldn’t make it and will need to reschedule again. I expressed some frustration as I would need to delay the solar installation. At that point he stopped answering all phone calls and text messages.

I still have no fix for my roof, and it is delaying another project I had lined up. At this point it seems I will need to hire a new contractor to fix this issue and contact the Vermont Consumer Assistance Program to file a formal complaint.

Do not hire under any circumstance.

TL;DR: We hired JWhite Contracting to paint our roof, but faced unprofessional behavior and damage to our lawn during the job. The paint started coming off soon after, and despite promises to fix it, they never did, leaving us with unresolved roof issues and delays in other projects. Avoid hiring JWhite Contracting at all costs.

John and John jr are my go to guys for any roofing purposes, they take a bite out of the best parts of any roofing company. Would recommend

I had contacted Mr John White< at J. White for a quote on my siding to be painted< and some roof repair, i had several leaks, some leaks around my Pipes!!! and he gave me an honest and more then fair quote! it was a third of the price! from the three other contractors that i had give estimates!!!, so i knew this big jolly and professional man, was infact the right man for the job! they came in and fixed every leak and put a great paint on my siding! it was the sherwin williams super paint! and, super is the right name for the paint! and John white and his crew! was super and efficient! and cleaned up the place like he never was there after the professional job was completed! thank you so much J.White contracting! from ol" Leonard Holbrook!!!! im looking forward to doing more buisness with you!!!

I contacted john white jr out for a free estimate and let’s just say from the minute I seen that young studly man I knew he was the guy to go with there were some missing screws in my metal roof so he climbed up the ladder onto me roof and screwed them holes in my roof down nice and good I’d recommend him to anyone that’s looking for someone to do the job right and with a good view

I am by nature, particular. Fortunately, I've lived in Vermont for forty two years and I have developed a great respect for the small business trades people we have here. If you've given Mr. White and his team any less than three stars (everyone has a bad day once in a while), you are probably a "tire kicker" with unrealistic expectations. A full roofing job is wicked expensive, in my case $16,000. That's what I was told by a well known local contractor after they surveyed my deteriorated ridge caps. Fortunately, I came across an advertisement for roof washing and roof treatments. Curious, I searched the internet and located Mr. White who literally came to my rescue with options and a fantastic solution, a roof coating and other treatments that would extend the life of my current roof significantly (including new ridge caps) for a third of the cost...and his work is guaranteed.

When you meet John, you can tell he's a problem solver. His brain is going so fast trying to piece together the best solution to meet your needs, it's raw enthusiasm to please the client. The best part is that his team, including his son, carries his plan off flawlessly. Like a surgical strike, they were here and gone in a little over a day and not a sign that that they'd been here. The roof with its new color, chimney flashing, valleys, even that ugly fake chimney around our furnace pipe was painted to match the house, best $5k I've spent in years. Great people, all of them.

His employees showed up got to work done quickly and efficiently were very respectful and did what they said they were gonna do I was very happy with the work and I would definitely Recommend them to all my friends and family they did a great job cleaned up their mess and left my property looking cleaner and better than when they showed up.

Unfortunately these guys talk a big game but ultimately ended up leaving me high and dry. The owner told me he was "a man of his word" but he is clearly not. Promises were made that weren't kept. So when I called to follow up and see what the new plan was I was treated like garbage and ended up being ghosted. My calls weren't returned and their voicemail was always full (probably by design) so I couldn't even leave a message. These guys straight up lied to me then went silent. INCREDIBLY unprofessional. Stay away... If I could give no stars, I 100% would.

He’s crew was very respectful, very clean, and very hard working. Seemed like a very reasonable price.What I was most happy about is that he said it would take about 2 weeks until finish, and was completed in 8 days!

John White reached out to me after I submitted a request for quotes on Home Advisor. He was one of three contractors who came and looked at my garage which needed a new shingle roof. Though John was slightly more expensive I went with him because he agreed to use the shingles that I requested, Owens Corning architectural style.

The project got off to a bumpy start due to the COVID-19 work restrictions set forth by the state. John's team started to strip the roof and had to stop, seal it up and come back at a later date. According to John my project was "first in line" once the restrictions were lifted. Whelp, once the restrictions were lifting it took almost 2 weeks of phone calls, repeated empty promises from John of "we'll be there tomorrow morning" before they finally came back to continue the job, which was only after I threatened to cancel the whole thing.

Once the work started I noticed and pointed out to John that the singles he was using were not Owens Corning(which was specifically outlined in the proposal) but instead they used IKO shingles. John brushed this off as being essentially the same product. At this point I was just ready to have the project completed so I chose not to debate the differences (mostly quality and price).

The job was completed pretty quick, approx 1.5 days. Once the crew packed up and left I quickly realized my driveway, walkway, and lawn were littered with hundreds of roofing nails. Rather than calling John and getting the runaround on when he'll be there to clean up the nails I chose to just go to Lowes, buy a nail magnet, and clean it up myself.

Fast forward a few days - Part of the proposal and quote was to replace the ridge vent which the old roof also had. On one of the first mildly warm days after the project was done I noticed that the attic space in the garage was extremely hot. I looked up and saw that the grooves on each side of the ridge board(where the heat is suppose to escape) had been sealed up by shingles and roofing paper, not allowing the heat to escape through the ridge vent. You would never notice this from the outside of the roof because the ridge vent appeared to be installed correctly, which overlaps where these vent grooves are suppose to be, making then not visible from the outside. Again, rather than calling John, getting the run around on when they'll be there to fix work that I trusted would be done correctly the first time, I decided to just fix it myself. I stripped the ridge cap, cut out the shingles and paper over the vent grooves, and installed a new ridge vent and cap shingles.

I contacted John, told him the situation with the ridge vent and asked for $300 back to compensate for my time and materials. After a couple weeks and few more phone calls and getting the runaround on when he'd be there, his son finally dropped off the $300 refund.

The moral of the story is that if you want the job done right (and you are capable), do it yourself!

Quoted work from another roofing coater and they weren't very open about how it was priced.
I called JWhite and John ran down the numbers and discussed the pricing and logistics with the job. It came up very similar to the first guy, but John added in some other pieces which saved me time as it knocked some items off of my todo list regarding the roofing area.
I would definitely have JWhite do work again. Great guys, would do almost anything you needed.

J.white contracting was great I had a bad leak that came out of nowhere on a rainy day so I contacted them and they came the next day and fixed it.
