I was able to get into my home in no time. Jimmy is incredibly knowledgeable about the process of home building. He was able to build my road, get the septic in, foundation poured and get me dried in before the winter last year. I wouldn't be where I am now without all of his hard work. Thank you!

J & J has done 3 projects with us and is contracted to do another one. I have been a general contractor for more than 40 years and I have never found someone as professional, honest, skilled and knowledgeable as Jimmy. I totally trust him with my projects. I truly could not give anyone a higher recommendation. I have recommended him to my friends and will continue to do so. Jeffrey Ehrlich

We hired this guy to do our excavating and concrete work and I'll say it was a nightmare experience. In my opinion, he is one of the biggest liars I have ever met in the contracting world. Do yourself a favor and ask around for references if you're considering this guy... we got overcharged and sub par work that will cost tens of thousands to fix!

Again do your homework before hiring him. I will be posting many pictures soon to show what we got and what we have to fix.

Also if you want a tour to see the work, please feel free to reach out.

In exercising my 1st Amendment right, I aim to share my experiences, opinion & truths.

I hired J & J Building and Remodeling for an excavation and concrete project, but my experience was filled with what I define as subpar work and countless excuses. The outcome has been nothing short of a disaster.

I’m beyond disappointed with the lack of accountability. I spent a significant amount of money, & now must pay someone else to fix these mistakes. J & J made several assurances about their skills and the quality of work, but I've encountered problem after problem. Quality of work worsened over time, leaving me in a difficult situation.

Things started seemingly well with the excavation until we reached the concrete pours & things fell apart. Many "promises" & "guarantees" were verbally made to my business partner and I about the structure and strength of the concrete. Do yourself a favor and get all promises & guarantees in writing or record them. People often deny statements even when witnesses are present.

Scheduling changes often occurred without notice, and communication was poor; I had to repeatedly ask for updates. Cancellations and changes delayed the project into the hotter summer months. During this time, Jim left for a personal trip & returned complaining about unrelated issues instead of addressing the concrete work.

His attitude was often confrontational when asked about cracking and unlevel sections. Jim shifted blame to the concrete mix, the concrete company, then external factors like excessive heat/sunlight, and ended with it being my fault. If heat was the issue, I believe he should have advised shading the concrete. Excuses don’t explain cracking or high points at seams where the pads come together inside the building.

Despite verbal promises on concrete durability, the weight of an unloaded forklift caused the Southeast pad to bow, and water flows into the building due to improper sloping. Visible cracks are present throughout the West, Middle, and Eastern areas. When we voiced our concerns, Jim became defensive, insisting the issues were ‘normal’ and would settle. This is not normal from engineering experts hired to evaluate the situation.

The building has further high points and cracking, resulting in unlevel areas across the concrete. The West and Center areas were not poured in excessive heat or sunlight, yet they are deteriorating. New areas recently showed signs of cracking and raising.

The outdoor porch area was pitched incorrectly, causing water to pool at the building’s entrance. Cracks spread from shallow relief cuts. I had to move forward with a new contractor to replace the porch.

I’ve also had continuous issues w/ the main drain line. Initially, I hired a friend to chisel out concrete chunks that had leaked into supplementary drain lines where Jim sheered stubs. After months of problems, a plumber discovered a concrete spike driven through the main drain line, causing clogs to this day.

This experience was a nightmare!

THIS IS IMPORTANT: I was never provided a contract or Disclosure Statement, only “Estimates” & “Invoices” without legal language for resolving disputes. This lack of documentation leaves consumers vulnerable. I learned this the hard way, ultimately settling a case against J and J through negotiation. I strongly advise against hiring any contractor who cannot provide proper documentation & legal info.

Before hiring a contractor, don’t rely solely on online reviews. Always request 3 to 5 references from past clients. Even if a contractor displays a BBB logo, verify their registration and standing directly with the BBB. This effort can help avoid costly issues and reveal red flags.

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
