The process of working with Horizon Homes was pleasant from start to finish. Cody was extremely personable and professional during the initial assessment, taking the time to explain the suggested improvements and benefits. When work began, the crew were also professional and kind. They took the time to check in at the end of each day, explaining what they had done and had planned for the next day. When the cleanup was complete, it was like no one had ever been there - I was very impressed. Even working through the final steps of finalizing our project balance and working through rebate paperwork was some of the easiest interactions I've had. I cannot recommend Horizon Homes enough. When I first thought of having workers in my house working on my attic, I thought it would be a total mess and huge stressor as I work right near the area they were concentrated on. All work was performed in a timely and detailed manner. There was a HUGE attention to detail and completion to detail. No question or request was ever too much. All company associates were highly professional, extremely courteous, neat and clean in presentation and workmanship, and demonstrated passion and compassion in their work and communication. This company is so so so great. They are prompt, excellent communicators, gave great explanations on what they recommended and clear price breakdowns. We used Horizon Homes for three projects over the course of about a year: installing heat pumps, insulating our attic, and insulating our basement. Each one of those could not have gone better, from beginning to end, everyone involved. Horizon worked with us to get our rebates, everything was straightforward for billing, and costs were competitive with what I’d seen elsewhere.
An inspector from Efficiency Maine courtesy checked Horizon’s work for us after the heat pumps and attic, and he said something along the lines of “Oh yeah, Horizon, their work is always great, so no surprise here.” Honestly, this all sounds too good to be true (and I briefly thought that inspector was a plant for Horizon), but that’s really our experience!
I’m a first-time homeowner who relies (too) heavily on online reviews, so let me add to the five-star pile for Horizon. And I hope this review helps someone who might be on the fence, because Horizon Homes was the right decision for us.

Fantastic experience throughout with Horizon. They installed Samsung heat pumps and attic insulation. Cody was awesome to work with throughout the scoping and consultation process. Very professional, timely, and answered my numerous questions over the course of 2 months as I evaluated options and ultimately selected Horizon. The HVAC and insulation team that completed the work did an amazing job - Professional, hard working, consultative, and they cleaned up great at the end of each day which was appreciated. Plus, they were really thoughtful about condenser and line placement to minimize line set on the house. A+ experience all around!

Some super nice folks, but they need to get their act together. They subbed out the actual insulation, and didn't supervise or inspect that work (which did not match the spec or their promises). The guy who did the estimate missed important stuff, so the prep crew had too much to deal with and too little time to do it right.

Communication across the board seems to be a big problem- The very nice estimator said certain things would (and wouldn't) be in the job, then the contract didn't reflect that. They'd promise to have someone phone us by the end of the week, and it wouldn't happen. The very nice crew chief went through the whole job with us, and noted specifics, but never passed these on to the folks who actually insulated. They said they'd replace windows as part of the job, but didn't say that they wouldn't even measure for them until the first work day (months after the estimate and contract), so it was extra weeks before we could use the spaces. We found we couldn't count on anything they said, and had to double and triple check everything, then do our own inspection. Time for the bros at Horizon to learn the concept of "underpromise, overdeliver."

Edit: The company called after I posted this, saying that they were hurt that I said negative things about their performance when they had “tried hard,” and asked me to take down my review. I’m paying for results, not “trying.” I left out lots of details on stuff they f-ed up on our job, and the time we had to put into chasing them down to do what they said they’d do. The finished job is not as promised, and the process was a pain in the butt. They failed to do the documentation and testing required for a rebate, but told us they were OK (nope! no rebate). They may pride themselves on good communication, but they failed across the board, at all levels of the organization, on our job. Two stars was just because we actually do have foam on the basement walls, and we eventually got them to properly cover it in flame retardant…

Horizon Homes was great to work with start to finish. The home visit and estimate were well-done - very informative and Cody helped me understand the answers to all my questions. We had both heat pumps & insulation done, and the teams that came were also fantastic. Very professional, quick - and we hardly knew they were here. Also, we particularly love the ducted heat pump for our second floor, which not all vendors can offer. Highly recommend!

Scheduled an appointment for an energy audit a couple months in advance (as that was only availability.) Tech never showed up on the scheduled day so I called and the lady told me she would look into it. I never received a message back. No experience with their actual work product for obvious reasons.

Horizon Homes was fantastic. Mike, Kevin, and Eli were professional and friendly, they we're top notch from start to finish. We used them to have 4 ductless units and a heat pump installed. I couldn't be happier using them, and I'll use them again in the future if I need anything else!

From excellent communication to even replacing a single that fell earlier this year, they are the definition of leaving something better than they found it. David and his crew are top notch. They came and did our insulation right on time, for the price they said. They cleaned up their mess. We were extremely pleased with their work and professionalism.

I had a void space that had a large amount of construction debris from a previous remodel as well as poorly insulated (some nonexistent) exterior walls. Cody was first on the scene for a quote and assessment back in May. He gave me a quote and a proposed date roughly 5 months out. For scheduling that far out and being off by 2 days was very impressive. Renaldo and Jake worked on removing all the old debris and dense packing the area. They called Luke when they needed support and he was there quickly to investigate. The whole team genuinely cared about the end product and respected us and our home. Communication was thorough and concise. We always knew the next steps and what they were working on. I would recommend Horizon to everyone needing insulation work done.

I hired Horizon Homes for Insulation services. I had a pleasant initial review of my home with Dave. He listened to me, my concerns and devised a plan that when submitted for estimate was well detailed and easy to read and understand.
The team that did the insulation, Kendal, Ronaldo & Jake were great! They were considerate as I was working from home. They were personable and pleasant to have around. They worked hard, they gave me a status and let me know what they found and what they would be working on next. The clean up each evening was impressive, I never saw a team work so neatly. All of the work they performed was quality & first rate.
Nate came back to do some small finish up items and he also was pleasant professional and efficient.

Horizon did serious insulation work on our home and we are very, very pleased with our choice. They worked with us to develop a great work plan, prepared a readable proposal that helped us understand what we were doing, and did an awesome job with all the installation. The crews were very well organized, personable and efficient. Every one of the guys was professional and careful, they tidied up every day and asked questions rather than made assumptions. Definitely felt like they all knew what they were doing and there is a very real difference in how tight our house is. We highly recommend Horizon. They exceeded our expectations.

We had a fabulous experience with Horizon Homes. We bought an old home with no insulation whatsoever anywhere in the house and a very, very old boiler. Dave came to do free energy assessment and make recommendations. He worked with us to prioritize the work and in the end we hired them to insulate the sides of the house, the attic, and install a fan in the bathroom. The work took longer than anticipated (2 weeks) but the crew was amazing. They were the nicest guys and did a fabulous job. At the end of everyday they cleaned up and you would have never known they were there.

Horizon homes was a pleasant experience for us. When i called and got voicemail, i thought it would probably be a while before i heard back, but Kristy called me back immediately. They were prompt with a very fair estimate and stayed true to the work they described would be done. Dave was so thorough in his explanations and answered all my questions. The crew that came to my home were very respectful and cleaned up at the end of the day like they were never even there. I would highly recommend this company to anyone that needs their services. Horizon did a great job with a complicated insulation job late last year when we renovated our barn. There were the normal couple of glitches, but they were quickly fixed, and communications and customer service were excellent throughout.

Everyone was great to work with and super-responsive! And the end result is unbelievable -- the added insulation has made our house so much more comfortable.

Having worked FOR Horizon in the past I was excited to move back to Maine and work WITH them on my home renovation. The gentlemen who arrived to loose fill my attic were professional and friendly and cleaned up thoroughly before they left. Good honest company doing solid work and always helpful with questions. If you are ever in search of a great group to work with, Horizon Homes is fantastic. Even though our job had to be broken out over months (not the fault of HH), HH was professional, patient, and were simply great to work with. Their entire crew was courteous, talented, and did great work. We had air sealing, insulation, and heat pump work done--all great!

These guys were awesome. The estimating and walk through was really thorough, and felt like the most knowledgeable and professional of the three we received. And while David gave us a great sense of what the options were, he then worked with us to narrow down the scope of our project down to what was the most important and within our budget. The work was done quickly, professionally and extremely cleanly. The space is honestly cleaner than it was when they started. It's clear these guys are pros. Give them a call.

Couldn't have had a better experience. Dave and the crew worked effortlessly and professionally to complete the insulation job on our attic and basement --- with our house full of kids, dogs, and even guests. Dave even cleaned a little paint that had spilled on our (already dirty) basement steps even though we didn't notice the paint had even spilled there! Dave also made the rebate with Efficiency Maine a breeze. All in all, Horizon has been professional, efficient, responsive, and easygoing -- we will recommend their work.

We sought and received three estimates to insulate our approximately 1700 square foot cellar. We picked Horizon because the company did an energy audit of our home several years earlier and we were impressed with David Milliken.
Horizon’s very professional workers completed most of the work in 3 days then GLADLY returned for a couple of hours another day to take care of a few cosmetic issues.
We are very happy with the work and would definitely hire Horizon again.

Had an appointment for a home visit. Contacted David couple days before because of major storm that day to reschedule if it was to bad for them to come out. He said he would let me know what they would do. That was the last I heard from them. Did not show that day. I reached out three more times to reschedule.Twice by e-mail once by phone. If they weren't interested in the job all they had to do was shoot me a quick e-mail. Totally unprofessional and held up my project because i was waiting for them to bid on it.

Horizon Residential Energy Services Maine just recently wrapped up our major Kitchen and Dining Room renovation that they had worked on from start to finish. David Milliken has assembled quite the impressive team and we are extremely pleased with the outcome. From the initial meeting, to the first day of demo, to the last day’s handshakes, the Horizon team was skilled, knowledgable, personable, polite, and very respectful. Nate Howe's crew always left the site swept, vacuumed with tools put away after every workday. We have never experienced this type of renovation of this magnitude before and they were always very approachable which was vital for making us feel comfortable during the job. Regardless the task, be it home efficiency resolutions or new construction, we would not hesitate a moment to recommend Horizon.

I recently had Horizon come to my home to repair a heat pump system that was installed by a different company, install a new heat pump system in a different part of my house and install a heat pump water heater. From start to finish this company gets an A+. They communicate well, stick to a timeline, and let you know what to expect. The crew that came out respected my home and the privacy of my family.
