Came through on a hot summer weekend. They tried telling me, I didn't know how to drive because my brakes up work and then they overcharged me for the work to fix it. And did a poor job according to some other shops. Did I talk to you? Cause I had to have it redone again because it was shaking again. And they found other things wrong with it, and a different shop would not recommend going there.

Michael the owner is amazing along with his crew and I would also have to say if I lived closer I would use high country Auto specialist has my one and only mechanic. Amazing work timely detail oriented and great communication. If you are passing through town and have any kind of mechanical issue I would highly recommend high country Auto specialist to be the ones to call.

I was loaded up for a road trip from Kansas City to the mountains and my check engine light came on near Silverthorne. I stopped at High Country and in less than 5 minutes, Mike came out, thoroughly inspected my truck, and diagnosed my problem. He was very personable and took the time to explain to me what he thought was going on. Mike did not try to sell me anything, but explained to me what my best options were. Mike was honest and kind to this out of towner and I appreciate that. Thank you Mike!

I highly recommend high country auto specialists! I called to get my brakes fixed and Mike got my car in the next day. Very personable and good communication. They found another issue and was able to fix it on a Saturday where most shops would just keep your car over the weekend. We have lived here for 8 years and haven't found a shop that we trust. We will definitely be taking our cars here whenever we need any service!

10/10 recommend. I was having an issue with my engine overheating and I called first thing in the morning, the owner took a look at my car, did a test drive and determined two options, one of which was just good advice that didn’t cost a thing. No hard selling. I really appreciated the time they took on a busy Saturday morning to help me get back on the road.

Mike and the others are excellent mechanics who have provided me with a great depth of car maintenance, and engine damage prevention knowledge. My car will run better and stronger than its ever ran thanks to them.

We were headed to Loma to put in for a weekend raft trip when our truck started whining loudly and losing power on the up hill past Silverthorne. We found High Country on Google and gave them a call. Mike, the owner, told us to come by and he would see if there was anything he could do to help us at least diagnose the problem. Despite them off to a busy Saturday morning, Mike brought his computer out and hooked up the Tundra. When nothing jumped out at him he drove the truck while it was hooked up and as soon as he heard the sound he knew it was the fan clutch on the radiator. The computer then confirmed. He directed us to get the part from Toyota as he was concerned about putting in an aftermarket part, he even called Toyota in Glenwood Springs to see if they had the part in stock. If we lived in or even fairly close to Silverthorne I'd have had Mike fix it for us in a heartbeat and if (god forbid) we ever have troubles out that way he will go see him. He could have just told us sorry can't help you we are too busy- but he took the time to help. I'm very impressed. Thank you Mike

Mike was amazing. He was kind, thoughtful, and personable. My group and I were in dire need of auto repair when we were driving through silverthorne on a bachelorette trip. We were stranded and had a car that was not drivable. Mike was able to order a part for our car and work through the itinierary or our trip with us to help save not only our car, but the trip. He went above and beyond and we lucked out visiting one of the most honest mechanics ever!

Curt and the team at High Country went above and beyond in repairing our '05 Sequoia with 300K+ miles. My son had an engine hose break in the middle of the tunnel threatening our long weekend mountain plans. They found a way to fit us in that morning and repaired everything perfectly- and cost effectively- to save our trip. If we lived in the area- they would be our regular mechanic. Kurt was an absolute lifesaver! We were experiencing some rotor trouble but were in the middle of our roadtrip. Kurt calmed our nerves by showing us the perfect temporary solution in the meantime. He very kindly hopped in our car and drove with us around the block to teach us how to shift to lower gears during the downhill stretches. It worked perfectly!!! We felt super safe and comfortable thanks to Kurt’s quick thinking and taking the time to personally teach us how to finish our trip safely before we could get it in for a longer service. Curt saved my road trip! From Maryland to Utah. My Ford Excursion had trouble getting through Colorado. I stopped into the shop late on a Friday afternoon. Curt stopped what he was doing and came out to look over my truck. Within a few minutes he had the problem diagnosed and I was on my way. With his information I had no issues the rest of the trip. Curt was amazing my car broke down and barley made it to the shop and Curt was able to squeeze it into his schedule to take a look at it the Tuesday he got back into the shop. He put the car back together and made sure it was safe to drive home and gave us all the information as to what needed to be fixed. It's not often that you find people who are so kind, honest, and helpful when get auto work done.

Stuck in 11.5 hours of traffic during a winter storm that closed down everything, our car failed to start at a gas station and all the warning lights came on.

I was in a pinch with a front brake that had overheated trying to head back to PA and he squeezed me in when he didn’t have to. I will go no where else in Summit County.

Curt was so helpful!! We stopped by this morning after coming down Loveland pass and feeling that there was an issue with the brakes on the pass. The garage was busy but Curt still took the time to take the car out for a test drive and to explain to us what was going on with the car and give us tips on how to drive safely. I was on my way from Boulder to Snowmass early Saturday morning when my windshield wipers completely stopped working as I drove through snowy/wet I-70. Nightmare! I pulled over and could not figure out what was wrong, and stopped at several shops when someone recommended I come to High Country Auto. I arrived just when they opened at 8am, and was kindly greeted by Curt. I felt like from the moment I described my situation, he really cared about getting me help, even if it wasn't from him since his shop was quite busy that morning. However, after his friends didn't pick up, he shifted around his schedule to get my car in asap and took a look at it. Even more, he let us sit in the warm office and offered me and my friend freshly baked cookies! I felt like I was in the best hands I could have been in, and although my car's issue was not able to get fixed, Curt gave me all the best information and advice on what to do next. I felt so so thankful I was recommended this shop.

Do yourself a favor and come here next time you need some auto-care.

Curt saved my ski weekend! My check engine light came on just as I passed through the tunnel. When I called, he was able to diagnose the issue over the phone and fixed the problem in under 5 minutes when I dropped by. If I have car troubles again I'll definitely be back. Thanks Curt!

CURT IS AN ANGEL!!! We are from Grand Junction and drove to Denver for a doctor appointment. On the way back to GJ, my check engine light started flashing while on I-70 and we were towed to High Country Auto Specialists. We got a hotel and walked over in the morning. The worker inside said they were behind and booked out and couldn’t help us today, but Curt came in and said he would take a look to see if he could spot an issue before we go somewhere else. He found a spark plug that had become disconnected. All he did was plug it back in and we were back on the road!! I offered to pay him but he wouldn’t take my money and asked me to pay it forward. AMAZING EXPERIENCE AND WONDERFUL PEOPLE! Thank you, Curt!!

I get my oil changed here regularly. They are reliable, honest and care about the safety of the vehicle. I'd recommend them for regular and other mechanic repairs. They are busy so remember to schedule early.

Curt is extremely courteous, professional, and helpful. Months ago I had stopped by for a brake fix and he kindly let me know he was not able to work on my type of vehicle. I remembered how nice and professional he was about our conversation. Recently, I found myself in a pinch needing a quick fix on a windshield wiper mechanism (not a new blade :)) before driving on i70 with the wet and melting snow. I stopped by the shop and Curt took the time to pause what he was doing and help adjust the piece on my car so I could safely get around. Thank you, Curt!

My car broke down on the highway, and I had it towed to High Country Auto Specialists. Early the next morning, Kurt said that, although he was extremely busy, he could take a quick look at my car. I was flushed with gratitude that Kurt would make time to help, since I had waited all night and had no other option. Kurt did a code scan and managed to start the car up again for a test drive. He diagnosed the problem as best he could with the limited information, then gave me some recommendations about getting back to Denver safely to have my car checked out. Kurt charged me nothing for this diagnosis. Kurt strikes me as a sort of salt-of-the-earth person. He has a lot of experience and seasons it with down-to-earth humor and a desire to help folks out. Again, I am so thankful for Kurt's kindness.

Curt saved our camping trip, thank you!! We had just passed through Silverthorne , CO in our 2014 Honda Pilot when the VTM-4 and check engine lights came on and the vehicle began driving sluggish. We managed to make it back to the first service place we found, which was High Country Auto Specialists. Despite being swamped, Curt sent his technician out to diagnose the issue. The code corresponded to a bad cylinder, but Curt had a hunch that it was a bad pressure switch. He was able to locate a replacement part and get it fixed within a couple hours. Honesty, expertise, and kindness!

Kurt is one of the kindest humans I’ve ever met. He went out of his way to help in an emergency and desperate situation. He absolutely saved the day and turned our situation around. This place deserves all the business and money and love!!!

Curt has had to do some major work on our vehicle and has always been a straight shooter about work and cost being done! The whole team goes the extra mile to make sure your vehicle and the work is done right! The last time we were in was just a simple job but turned into more and Curt was upfront with the issue and worked with us to fix it without delay! Still getting our vehicle to us in the same day he promised when other shops might have pushed our vehicle out another week.

High Country Auto was amazing!!!! 5 stars! Big shoutout to Curt here! I was driving home from Steamboat to Denver and my car wheels started making some crazy noises and it did not seem safe to drive. (and boy was I right!) It was a Sunday so I did some research and ended up leaving my car here based off previous reviews, in hopes someone could help when they opened up shop.

Curt called me back right away and was incredibly helpful, kind and trustworthy. He went above and beyond to help me understand my cars problem, gave me next steps on how to solve it even after knowing he didn't have the part that would fit my car perfectly and since I was in Denver, Curt even dropped my car off to a fellow mechanics shop to get my wheels replaced!!

I've had a really great experience with HCAS. I was quoted by Subaru Longmont for an axle repair and wanted a second opinion (or quote). I reached out to a few automotive shops (Groove Subaru a couple weeks ago; another local automotive shop, and HCAS about a week ago). Subaru still has not returned my call, and the other repair shop never got back to me after I sent them the work order. Curt was very prompt in getting back to me and was able to look at my car the following day. He was honest and told me it would eventually need to be repaired, but not immediately. I trust his expertise, positive reviews, and will be returning to his shop when the ol' crosstrek needs work again.

Curt and his team are the best in Summit. The only mechanics I trust in the area. Family business feel, honest estimates, and fast service. Can't ask for more.

Excellent service. We drove in from out of town and our car was making a funny sound. We came in 45 min from closing and they took it for a drive, fixed the problem, and went for another drive to make sure it was fixed. Definetly recommend!

I was driving to Vail when my low oil pressure light came on. I accidentally overfilled my oil and brought it in to Curt at 5:15pm. He dropped everything he was doing to ensure I got back on the road as soon as possible. He was honest and fair with the price. Which in my opinion is very hard to come by with a mechanic these days. I highly recommend this shop!

What a great shop! My young son was driving all the way from Kentucky to California in January 2019. He and I had "repaired" his Accord's rear drum brakes before the trip and we didn't do it correctly. The brakes started to give him trouble in the mountains of Colorado. So, he and his girlfriend limped the car to your this shop. The team put the car on the lift, explained important things before they took the drums off, and discovered some incorrectly installed parts. They sorted the problem out, put the car back on the ground, and sent my son and his girlfriend off on their way with no charge. They knew they'd never see them again, but treated my son so wonderfully. Where do you get service like this? Also, just as importantly, my son said the mechanic was a listener, very clear and distinct in his explanations, and very friendly. Totally professional.

This company is hands down on point. Maybe pricey at times, but this company will not RIP you off and up sale you on yr vehicle. They fix what's critical for your safety, let you know of possible future problems and get you on yr way. I have never been stressed picking my vehicle up here, because I know its honest work.

Curt the owner was exceptional. I came into town from Michigan for the holiday weekend to find my rotors and brake pads were shot. Although he couldn’t help me due to the high volume of appointments scheduled the day after Memorial Day, he took time to show me how to drive down the mountain using my gears which would enable me to get my car fixed in Denver. I ended up finding another shop in town who could help me today. MY high rating comes from the time and genuine concern for my safety he spent with me. Thanks again!

Traveling through the area in my Jeep Commander and had a coolant leak. Called 9 or 10 places...no one could even look at it for several days. A guy at Utopia tires told me to call High Country in Silverthorne. Close to 4pm, my wife called up Curtis and he told her to bring it right in that day: While he was still getting our info, he had his mechanic pull the Jeep in the garage and diagnose it. They found a leaking water pump and within minutes we had a fair estimate and were told we could get the Jeep the next day. They took me out in the shop and showed me the problem. Got a call 3 hours later from Curtis who let me they had taken everything apart and we had a bad pulley that probably caused the problem and I should replace that. No additional labor, just the part. By 10am the next morning Curtis called to tell me that the job was done. Paid a little less than the estimate...and we were on our way with a 3 year warranty from NAPA for parts and labor. Excellent & speedy service at a fair price. Highly recommend these guys. Hard to know who to trust when it comes to auto repairs....I trust these guys.

My experience at high country auto specialists was timly, professional, and affordable. My car is running great! Kurt diagnosed my car, found me a new slave cylinder, topped off my transmission fluid, and gave me a quote in less than 15 minutes and all for free. I brought my car back and it was fixed and ready to go in less than 12 hours and got me out the door for LESS than his original quote. I won't take my car anywhere else. Thanks guys!!!

I was in Dillon for a ski trip over Christmas week. My car began making an odd clicking noise after being turned on. When I called to inquire about getting it looked at, Curt was able to get me in the same day (verse other shops in town telling me they had no openings until the end of the week). Curt looked at my car, was able to diagnose the problem (minor) & recommended I get it fixed when I return to Denver since it would take him a day or two to get the part in. I'm so appreciative of the service and advice provided. It is hard to find a mechanic to trust, and more worrisome when out of town. 100% recommend High Country Auto Specialists.

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE, THEY ARE THIEVES! I brought my truck to these guys for a new oil sending unit. While working on the unit i was told that my radiator and water pump were leaking so much that a "huge puddle formed in the hour and a half that they were working on the truck" and that they could replace them for a cool $1200. I was told tat my truck would not make it to Denver, yet alone Washington state where I needed to drive next month and that I needed the repair done there and to not drive my Truck or it could ruin the engine. Upon a little internet research I found that this repair should only cost $650-900. This left me a little suspicious so I placed a cardboard box under my engine and in two weeks I didn't see a single drop of fluid come out of the engine, let alone a huge puddle in only an hour and a half, a stark contrast to the dripping torrents I was told were leaking out of my engine. I then took my truck to two other mechanics who both said nothing was wrong and that I didn't need any of this work done and my truck is fine. I have now Driven the truck almost 2000 miles to Canada and have not had to put a single drop of coolant into my truck and I have not seen a single drop come out. DO NOT take your car here, these guys just want to take your money for repairs that do not need to be done. I gave these guys one star because zero stars is not an option. Zero out of ten, would not recommend these greedy thieves a friend.

3500 with a lot of miles on it due to transporting cars everywhere in the US and we ran into a problem one of these nights on I 70 by Vail. We lost all of our torque in our truck in the middle of the night unfortunately. Next morning tried going to find a place to get it check out but everyone was extremely occupied. Curt and the crew were also very busy but they took
Us in and got our problem fixed. After hours of looking into the problem and doing some tests finally came to a conclusion. We had a loose wire hidden deep under somewhere. Had to do many test and eliminating to find the exact loose circuit. Very surprised and thankful Curt and Roy were able to find this wire that many mechanic most likely would have not taken the time to even look. At first we thought it might be a valve body which the solenoid ended up testing good. They went above and beyond to get us fixed and back on the road. Very hard to find a honest mechanic that tell you straight up. I highly recommend them. Very pleased with the service and work they did for us. Curt, Roy, Natalie and the rest of the crew are all very professional. Thanks again guys for all you did for us!!

I've been burned so many times that I usually go to a mechanic wondering how much they'll take to not fix the problem! That is not the case at High Country Auto! They are by far the best mechanics I've ever been to - super fair, honest, and to the point without the extra nickle and diming I'm used to. Kurt has been working on all the cars in our household for years. I completely trust him.
