Unfortunately Tyler made it impossible to recommend him. We were confident we were in excellent hands when we first spoke with him and were happy to pay him the very high rate that he charges for himself and his men because we expected top of the line in work quality, professionalism, and being on the same page with timeline and budget. We wanted top of the line service and were happy to support them in the hard work. He failed us greatly.

The timeline was blown out from the expected 2-3 weeks which was to be completed "between projects" during the summer to 3.5 months most of which he spent telling us false promises of when the next steps would be completed. At one point in early August he said it would be done in 3 weeks, and as I mentioned it wasn’t done until late October, costing our family the entire summer of enjoying the home.

If Tyler and his team had finished the railings (we let him go because we could not carry on in good faith) this deck would have ended up costing us around 35k OVER our discussed budget. The expectation of budget was based on a similar deck he had recently built that we liked which he claimed was “bigger and more complex” than what we wanted and gave us the cost range. We made it clear that was the very high end of the budget. When I asked him if he would price it out in advanced he assured me that we may end up spending “well under” that so we felt confident we were good to go. We ended up spending 7k over budget after the discount he gave and still NO RAILINGS, which we will have to source and install those ourselves. When it became more clear that the budget was getting out of hand I asked for the quote for the railings, it was 24K in materials alone, not counting the extremely high cost of labor he charges and 16% management fee…. This was when we had steam coming out of our ears needless to say. That amount in materials alone was about half our budget for the whole project.

I asked him and the team to please feel free to use our bathrooms and gave them the code and without asking they used the home for tool storage even though I told him family would be coming and going. My brother in law called to let him know he would be bringing friends up and Tyler assured us he would move the truck, remove the tools he had placed inside, and without being asked offered to build a little temporary safety platform outside the deck door. When my brother arrived not a single thing had been done or moved so the house was a mess and the truck was left blocking the driveway. This was an example of the lip service and failed promises we received constantly which resulted in an eventual complete lack of trust and credibility.

We will now have to finish the job ourselves as we can afford it. This project has been a massive disappointment. The reason he gave us for it going so over budget was that he realized he couldn’t get a crane to the space so they had to use different and more posts than planned, but this is the kind of foresight I would imagine someone charging what he charges to have. Seeing that the railing materials alone were half of our overall budget shows me he never planned on respecting our budget in the first place or was just incredibly negligent with his planning. I always liked him when speaking and felt in those moments he was a person with integrity but regardless of if this was intentional or just a lack of planning and communication, we are the ones paying the price and this is someone we could not ever recommend.

Tyler and his team at Grizzly Contracting have all been wonderful to work with. They built an architectural garage from our plans from start to finish. They were very responsive with phone calls, punctuality and quality of construction. Every step of the way their professionalism has made what could have a stressful experience a pleasant one. Even during this period of supply side disruptions.

Tyler replaced siding that was eaten away by woodpeckers.

My request was not close to earth in any way. It was extremely high. Tyler defied gravity, went up a steep ladder and replaced my siding.

Was really impressed when he measured and cut a puzzle piece siding and fit it perfectly the first try.
