We had a great experience working with Gray. Everything was clearly explained and all are questions were answered. We're looking forward to many years in our new Gray built home!

There's not enough words to describe how pleased we were with the experience we had with Gray Construction and their team of professionals, so I'll keep this short and sweet. This was our first custom build --a totally different and more complex process than just purchasing from a developer. Mike and his team made the process simple and stress-free. He even suggested a lender that, after vetting other lenders, his referral was the best option. Gray Construction's communication through the process was great and the timelines were realistic and pretty accurate. The price of our custom build may have been, if not similar, then actually even better than that of a similar cookie-cutter home. We've been settled in for almost 5 months now and have been happy with every single thing. If you are considering a great, reliable, and seasoned builder, look no further!

We recently built a custom home with Gray Construction and it was an amazing experience. Everyone from start to finish was so helpful. They were very informative, knowledgeable and most importantly easy to talk to. If we had any questions or concerns, they were addressed immediately with no hesitation. We wanted a builder who would work with us and be receptive to all of our ideas about the design of our home, Grey Construction did not disappoint! From the very beginning they were on top of all of our correspondence and answered all of our many questions. This is our retirement home and we were very focused on attention to every little detail. Grey Construction has an excellent team in place and our experience with each individual has been a breeze. All of the contractors that Grey Construction uses are top notch. We met with all of them at each stage of building. Our finished home is exactly what we dreamed it would be. Any concerns after we moved in have been addressed quickly and resolved to our complete satisfaction. We couldn’t recommend them enough if you want a custom home and to
be truly listened to. Our finished home is a show piece of their efforts and talent. I have included many photos. If you are building a home don’t hesitate to hire Grey Construction!

If 5 stars is the highest rating you can give a business then I would give Mike Grey and his entire team 10 stars. From the very beginning after meeting with Mike to discuss building our new home, everyone we came in contact from his team was professional, friendly and through. There were several requests for changes from the original plans for our house and Mike and his team accepted all our requests and made everyone of the without question. This included moving complete walls to make our master bathroom larger so my wife could have both a shower and tub. We had several other requests and upgrades and Mike and his team made them all. Mike even made adjustments enabling me to have the garage I wanted. I would highly recommend Mike and his team if you are looking for a builder for your dream house. My wife Teri and I are completely happy with the experience with Grey Construction and absolutely love our new home.

I had a positive feeling when I first hired the Gray Construction team. At the time, I didn’t know it would become our best decision in a season of time. Their pricing was competitive when compared to other builders. In addition to this, they use quality subs and equipment.

I knew it was gonna be a good project when the wife and I couldn’t agree on a window selection, early on. Mike called me up and said hey what’s the problem, it’s just windows? Let me get you some guidance from the manufacturer to help settle the issue. This was extremely helpful and from that point, we were on our way.

Meeting the subs put me further at ease. What builder introduces you to his subs? Such a great bunch of guys. You can’t beat a man at his trade, I always say. They made good suggestions on build approach to help save additional cost. They also took care of the place throughout, covering the air registers, floor and the concrete porch for protection, for example. They worked so well together. I gave ‘em hard one hard time one day when I found the plumbing cut to put the duct work through the crawl space. The first response was “oh you saw that huh?” Then they just laughed and said oh that happens. The plumber put the pipes in the wrong place, ha ha. They’ll come back and re-pipe. No big deal. By the way, duct man called the plumber and worked it out. Who does that? Only in Colonial Beach. Love this place.

I went through quite a season of personal change during the project and could not involve myself as I normally would. I simply had to trust they would do the right thing. As I was able to check things, I never found any big issues.

At one point, I had a check, intercepted (stolen) and cashed. I could not make a payment on time. Gray work with me until I could get it resolved.

The office folks were great as well. They helped in recovering the lost funds. They were great about keeping me on track when decisions were needed. They kept up with the County and Town permitting, inspections and utility connections. The project finished on time and budget. The place is fantastic and a bit fancier than I deserve. I would not hesitate to do another project with Gray Construction.

I am pleased to give a review for Gray Construction because every time I walk through my beautiful well-built house my heart is overwhelmed with joy at the beautiful structure they have created. I am not a novice to building and construction, and I can truly say that this is a top-notch quality builder, who will give you what you want if you can afford it. I watched every phase of the building process and they used the finest materials and the house is built airtight. His team is no-nonsense, skilled craftsmen. I am ecstatic with the electrical system, plugs and outlets everywhere. The finish work is best. I enjoyed working with Mike and his office staff, because he has this funny humor, and they are all so efficient and on top of each clients project. I highly recommend them. Plus you have a year to find anything wrong, and they do promise to return and correct it.

Thankfully the law prevents contractors from utilizing a myriad of ways of squeezing a customer dry of their funds. In spite of this, Gray still found a way to set me up with a contract and deal that cost me thousands more than the total value of the resulting property, and behaved indignantly and belligerent when this was brought to his attention and suggestions for how to remedy our relationship were made. He drew up a very self-serving contract for a first-time homebuyer and then stuck rigidly to that contract.
The only way it could have gotten worse is if he'd drawn out the building process a few months longer to trigger the "balloon" feature in our contract (which would have been another $3k for him), but ultimately, Gray comes to the table to make himself money. When parts of the project costed more than projected, he either found a way to pass those costs to me, or tried to cast it as making the whole deal a net loss for himself.
He claims that every contractor does business this way, and he may be right. I haven't done enough construction projects to know for sure. With that in mind, though, I'd advise you to shop around and see if you can get a better deal.

From our 1st meeting with Mike Gray to look at land and discuss our home design, through the follow up taking care of minor issues after we moved in, Gray Construction has been top notch! The entire team at Gray Construction has been extremely friendly and helpful throughout the process. All of the subcontractors used by Gray Construction were also top notch and friendly. Every time we stopped by the house during the construction process whoever was there was friendly and more than willing to answer any questions. No corners were cut throughout the building process and I know we have a top quality home. After taking ownership of our home ~2 weeks ago, Greg and Mikey have been here within 24 hours of reporting any issue (all were very small). I'm confident they will continue to take care of anything that may come up moving forward. I've never seen a contractor more willing to bend over backwards to make sure their customers are completely satisfied. In the end, we ended up with our dream home and we couldn't be happier! If I could give Mike and his team more than 5 stars I definitely would!

This is the first time getting a home built we called Gray’s Construction. From finding the land to building the house and completing the house Mike, Greg, Karen, Charlene, Mikey, and Wayne and all of their contractors walked us through step by step with what we needed to do. They are the nicest people. We had a lot of handicap stuff done to our house. They addressed everything that we asked about or told them was wrong. We even brought the land beside us and got them to build a garage on it. They went above and beyond to help us on the house and garage. We would recommend this company to everyone to us. We would like to think them all for all of their help on the house and garage.

Gray Const. Built a home for my husband and myself in Colonial Beach Va. The company was extremely easy to work with and we’re agreeable to changes we made to our plan. Office personnel including Mike , Charlene, and Karen were beyond helpful in getting information to us and explaining all the intricacies of building codes. Greg and Mikey always responded promptly to our calls concerning this or that about the house. Overall, we are very pleased and satisfied with our beautiful home.

Gray Construction Inc built our vacation cottage in Colonial Beach - we closed just last week and started move-in process. Our experience with Gray was very positive. All our suggestions and concerns were addressed in professional and timely manner. Mike and his team paid a lot of attention to detail and high quality. Would like to share my appreciation to the GRAY Construction family & team who all did their skilled part during each phase of construction to (most importantly) ensuring the work is done right. Been noticing a lot of newly constructed homes in the Colonial Beach area literally being thrown up and completed in two months. I wondered, "why can't my new house be done fast like those?" When I see the high quality craftsmanship of my new home GRAY built, I have no doubt I made the best choice. Their team, (every one of them) is so skilled at what they do; from the foundation, plumbing, electrical, deck and porch boards, painters, trim and concrete down to door knobs and locks - all spectacular!!! Every single time I'd ask when a certain thing might be done on the home, they would respond, "it's already been taken care of", then I'd go to the house and check, and sure enough, they pulled their magic again. After moving in, any concern I had, someone would be at my door to assist literally before I could unpack a box!

GRAY Construction's quality craftsman style home is unmatched, and I would certainly make them my first choice in building my next home.

It is no small undertaking to begin building a custom home during a pandemic. But Mike and Greg pushed through the challenges and worked hard to make sure I was happy when all was said and done. I am thrilled with my new home and the high quality of workmanship, and I appreciate Gray's dedication to getting everything done right.

I would like to say thanks to Mike, Greg, Karen and Charlene for a wonderful experience build our new house. We started working with Mike a year ago. He was very easy to work with. He had some house plans and we redesigned to suit our needs and wants. We started in late June building the house and it now is complete and looks great. The quality is great also. I would highly recommend Gray Construction to anyone.

We had the best experience with Gray Construction. We brought our ideas for the size and floor plan we wanted. Mike worked with us to get everything just the way we wanted. We were prepared to compromise on some things if necessary, but we didn't need to. Gray Construction had the plans drawn up, gave us a quote and we immediately signed the contract. We were able to visit the site on a weekly basis and if we had any questions, they were immediately answered. Everything went according to plan and we moved in May of 2021. They told us we might notice issues after we moved in and we did, but all were minor and taken care of in a very timely manner. We have really enjoyed the experience of working with Gray Construction and we love our new home! We highly recommend Gray Construction for any project.

I called after hours but left a message. They never called me back. This happened one other time and I had to make multiple phone calls to get my answer. Very disappointed!

Gray Construction built my new home in Colonial Beach and I couldn’t be more satisfied or happier. The entire experience from engagement, groundbreaking to completion has been extremely positive. I was fortunate to meet Mike Gray when I contracted to have my garage built at my home in Colonial Beach in 2007. The project was completed on time and below budget. The workmanship was perfect and all of my visitors were impressed with the completed project. Fast forward to 2019. I sold my home in Town and as my good luck would have it, I was able to buy a house outside of the Town that was built 4 years ago by Gray. The work is incredible and the home showed as new! The fit, finish, and craftsmanship is unparalleled. A year later, I had Gray build a new deck on the back of my house. As expected, the work was perfect. The finish and attention to detail is remarkable.
I can't say enough about my experiences with Gray Construction. I sorry that I can only award them five stars! Great people with whom to do business.

We had an excellent experience working with Gray Construction to build our custom home. The contract was signed in August and permit process, demolition and build went through and we were able to move in and enjoy the house the following summer. They worked from our architect’s plans, and they were able to make that vision become reality and produce a product better than imagined. They are wise, give good insight, and have solutions to challenges. The framing process was my favorite part, where they were able to make suggestions on-site that enhanced the design. They were responsive and even-keeled. They worked steadily the entire time and there were no surprises in the budget. Both Gray brothers have a lot of integrity. Their end goal is clear - satisfied customers living in a quality, beautiful home. Our family is that!

We couldn't be happier with our new home built by Gray construction! From the start Mike was pleasant and took the time to meet with us and show us several lots available and helped us with our selection. It’s been approximately six months since we moved into our new home built by Gray Construction and we are very satisfied. The craftsmanship is high quality. The schedule for completion was reasonable and we controlled the budget. Stress was minimal from the contract writing process through construction. Any questions or clarifications during contract development were quickly answered by Mike. Greg was a responsive project manager and kept the construction moving in a positive direction. Greg was onsite each day which increased our confidence that things were being done exactly how we wanted them. At all points during construction both Mike and Greg were responsive and maintained open communication.

My husband and I have used Gray Construction for more than 10 years, and highly recommend them! The quality of work is outstanding (and this was proven when we sold a house they constructed within 10 days of being on the market)! We are currently working on the second home to be built by Gray Construction. On the first home they built for us, we were brand new to that experience. Mike patiently walked us through each phase of that with ease and always on budget ... not to mention they finished our home ahead of time! Its the years of experience packed into this company, the quality of work, along with their professionalism that keeps us returning!

In December 2018 I moved into a new house built by Gray Construction and i’m extremely happy with the results. They came highly recommended when I was searching for a local custom home builder in the Montross area and they did not disappoint. The Gray brothers were hands on and easy to work with throughout the process; from the initial design to the very day I was handed the keys. The attention to detail and quality of the workmanship is excellent and requested changes or modifications were handled easily (no lengthy negotiations or pricey add ons like some big box builders). Being that 2018 was one of the wettest years on record there were some added challenges to our project but Greg found ready solutions to the issues and kept things on track. I had the benefit of living close by while the house was being built so I interacted with most of the subcontractors and work crews. There was a high level of professionalism present and at no point did I feel like corners were being cut or jobs were being rushed.

If you are looking to build your next home I would highly recommend using Gray Construction.

In late July we finally moved into our new addition: a beautiful master suite situated on the first floor of our home. The suite also includes a mud room and laundry area. When we first met with Mike Gray last year to discuss our plan, our only request was that it not look like an addition. We wanted it to blend nicely with the existing house. His only reply was, “That’s what we do.” We knew then that he would make it happen! They broke ground in late February and each day we saw progress. The Gray brothers hire first class subcontractors that work diligently to get the job done right. Once everything was under roof we started working with Greg Gray. He made sure everything was taken care of regardless of the situation. All we had to do was call him if there were any issues. We highly recommend this construction team if you are planning a new home or an addition.

As they have grown into one of the Northern Neck's premier home builders they have never forgotten their early customers. They are as responsive to my needs today as they were 17 years ago. Most importantly they stand by their work !

We know a little about construction having built or remodeled 4 personal homes and built 18 condos at Perdido Key, FL. Mike and his crew are outstanding. From work ethic to timely marshalling of building materials and scheduling workflow, they are terrific. If there was a glitch, it was taken care of. Mike also made helpful suggestions during construction. We are delighted with our cottage at Colonial Beach and highly recommend Gray Construction.

I have used Gray Construction on numerous occasions. They have done both large and small jobs for us. One of the more notable ones was on a house that was up for sale. We were under a time crunch because the new owners old house had been sold and they had to move in quickly. Gray Construction completed everything that had to be done so that the new owners were able to move in on the day their old house was sold. We will definitely call them when we have additional work to do.

I hire Mike Gray and Gray construction to do a turn key project which required finishing of an up stair apartment. This was a fairly large space that required dry wall, laying of floors, electrical upstairs and down into the garage which included Heating and Air Conditioning.. They did all trim and installed banister and railing and paint to give me a turn key product. I found Mike and his crew to be honest and they worked in a timely fashion. I would recommend Gray Construction to anyone looking for good quality work at a reasonable price. I am sure I will use him again for future projects.

I have had the opportunity to use Mike and his team on two separate occasions. The first time they remodeled my existing house, and the second time they added a family room and garage. On both occasions I was totally satisfied with their work and willingness to work with our vision. Obviously I would not have gone with them a second time, if I was not happy with the first job. The new addition looks like it was part of the original house. Would totally recommend them for your new construction and remodeling projects.

Gray Construction has repaired my home on several different occasions. Once after a storm blew the siding off my home, they came out really fast and installed new siding that matched perfectly with the remaining existing siding. On another occasion, I had a roof leak and the water damage was extensive on the master bedroom ceiling. Mike and his crew came out and repaired all the damaged drywall and replaced the insulation as well as repairing the roof and shingles. Great job and a fair price. They really know the tricks of the trade and stand behind their work. I would not hesitate to call them again. So I can recommend them to anyone who wants a quality product at a reasonable price.
