We had a fantastic experience with GN Construction. Full house renovation including new kitchen and two new bathrooms. They completed the project on time and stayed within budget. Their team was not only professional but also very friendly and easy to communicate with throughout the process. The quality of their work exceeded our expectations, and they kept everything clean and organized. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable and skilled contractors.
I paid a deposit of $4030 cash, 10%, for a bathroom remodel that was $40,350. The deposit was paid to the owner, Guy (This man was happy to come to my home late evening to get my $ and didn't care about the addition $5). The amount given was the deposit required in the contract. I was given NO receipt. Guy instead told the staff that I made the deposit and to proceed. As I waited to have my bathroom remodeled, I made a change to the layout, but ultimately went back to the original plan. With the amount of money I was spending, I was meticulous with my decisions since they NEVER sat down with me to discuss the actual aesthetic I was going for, just asked for pictures. Guy and the vendor apparently didn't like that I was meticulous and requested I speak to him. On the call, Guy told me that they feel I don't trust them. (To this day, he has no clue about the details of my bathroom remodel). On the call, he was very condescending. Mansplaining about how he does 30-40 bathrooms every year and that I should he happy that he is doing my bathroom. Since it's my hard earned money being spent, I demanded a refund. Then he sent me $3712.20. I figured the difference is due to the permit that was already placed. I reached out to the Permits office and requested to terminate the permit and provide a refund. They said they would provide the refund but it would be sent to GN since GN paid them (GN used my money for the permit). Now I requested the refund from the owner Guy, he is telling me that I gave him $3712.20, not $4030. He is refusing to refund the rest of my money.
To anyone out there looking for a renovation, go elsewhere. Imagine an aggressive car salesman. That is Guy. Very condescending and ignorant. Communication is poor, you have to stay on top of things. Otherwise, it takes a week or more to address a simple question. The rep from one of their vendors insists on responding once a week or at the end of the week to a question. Every issue takes a week or more which pushes back the project by a week.
I realize that GN was providing average service at a high cost. I was told it will look good but yet my plans were never discussed in detail. But I have learned after doing my research. The $40,350 is for a BASIC remodel with no change in layout. This didn’t even include a niche! This was extra! I have found that most contractors are charging $10-15K for labor. The rest of the cost is based on the materials you choose (vanity, tub, mirror, tiles, etc). He request that you buy ONLY from their vendors which was an issue that they had with me since I already made most of my purchases. When you go to GN designated vendors, the prices are all full price. So this adds to the cost.
So what is the $40K bathroom for exactly? Labor is $2,800K for demo, $5,200 for plumbing (disconnecting old pluming and installing a new shower system and faucet), $4,500 for disconnecting old electrical and installing GFCI outlet, 4 pot lights and a bathroom fan. $950 for insulation for outer wall (8ft tall and wide). $5,500 for installing tile. $900 for installing a prehung door, install vanity and hardware. Painting is $1,800 for a bathroom less that 90sq feet. $8,000 for allowance for materials . The rest is permit, dumpster fee, etc. Ridiculous. It’s safe to say that I dodged a bullet! Go elsewhere!
We had GN Construction remodel our original 1929 bathroom. They are an amazing company. A pleasure to work with. They have a process and a team of dedicated professionals who make everything easy for the homeowner. They are very responsive and accommodating. They have talented designers and craftsmen who think "outside the box". They were able to create an amazingly functional and beautiful solution for our limited space. My wife and I were very pleased and we will use them again on the future projects. HIGHLY recommended !!!!
