**DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY – Unreliable and Dishonest**

We hired Dirt Cheap Home Improvements after being referred by Choice Home Warranty (CHW), and this experience has been nothing short of a nightmare.

James came out on June 17, 2025, and told us that CHW had approved the claim. Once the work was completed, he suddenly informed us that the warranty claim was denied—but still charged us $750, including the $100 CHW service fee! That’s completely misleading and dishonest.

Since then, James Norfleet has ignored all of our calls and messages, and still hasn’t sent us an invoice for the services we paid for. To make matters worse, the plumbing issue was never fixed—our toilet is still backing up into the bathtub and leaking! We are left out of pocket with no resolution and a bigger mess than before.

Such a rip-off. We feel taken advantage of and incredibly frustrated.
If CHW refers Dirt Cheap Home Improvements, request another contractor immediately. I wish we could get our money back.

We received an appointment with Dirt Cheap through our Home Warranty company for a clogged/slow draining toilet. Our appt was set for later in the week, but he called this morning to see about coming today. My toilet was unclogged in minutes, and I'm appreciative of the timeliness.

The worst of the worst, dirt cheap was sent from choice home warranty, the guy showed up 4 hrs late supposedly fixed the water heater and didn’t. Said he would come back gave a day and time and he never came , not even a heads up, the guy James is a rip off and so is choice home warranty. Do not allow them to send dirt cheap for your repairs. Just an update, CHW sent another plumbing company out just to find out that Dirt Cheap never did the work they claimed to have done, I recommend staying away from James and Dirt Cheap.

Dirt cheap home improvements is a rip off. If you look at a lot of the reviews from customers who have Choice Warranty, we have all experience the same type of customer service. I had a leak in my home, James immediately came in and said it was a toilet. He didn’t test it to see how long the water stays on the toilet bowls or anything. He automatically rebuild the toilets by changing the flapper and other things in about 14 minutes “mind you I had three toilets”. I was sure that it was fixed because he’s the expert, right?! Well it wasn’t…..I had issues with one of my toilet not flushing properly, and the other toilets constantly running water. He came back out to attempt to fix the toilet that was running water, but he claim it wasn’t nothing wrong with it. He also said it was nothing wrong with the way my toilet is flushing. I called Choice Warranty and complained about the job not being complete and he still having issues. Choice tried to call him and they also sent him a message and James never responded. They sent him a warning and he never responded. They even tried to call him while they had me on hold, he never responded all. I also sent him videos of what my toilet was doing, he never responded. Choice said they wouldn’t pay him if he didn’t respond within 24 because the job was incomplete. But James also said that he’s had customers in the past whose homes he had to go back out to and choice didn't pay him because jobs wasn’t resolved. So it’s clearly a trend with his customer service.

Moving forward, they sent JR plumbing and mechanical services and they are phenomenal. I recommend you ask your warranty company to use JR plumbing if they try to give you dirt cheap. The guy came in and did some test on my water, levels of how the toilet filled up. Joel was here for at least an hour and explained everything to me as well as did a thorough diagnostic. Thank God my problem has been resolved.

Stay away from Dirt cheap plumbing. Just because it’s a black business doesn’t mean you can’t deal with horrible service. Stat away!

I was given this service through a home warranty company to repair diagnose and repair a hot water heater issue. Upon diagnosing the problem he ordered and received the part. The wrong part was ordered, having to wait additional time. Once correct part came in he mentioned it would take approximately 2 hours to perform work. He rushed through the job in about 15 minutes and told me to reach out if the issue continued. Over the next 2 weeks he was MIA, not responding to phone calls or text (even though he read them). I would not recommend this company at all, but use another company because you deserve so much better than what this company is capable of offering.

****UPDATE****It is my opinion that this repairman rushed the job by cleaning the heating coil with a wire brush, but charged my warranty company for a bunch of parts as if he actually completed the job. This was based off of a reputable plumber that is completing the job they were unwilling to complete and respond to my communications to let them know the issue persisted.

The question is asked initially, "Did you use this business?" The answer would be we tried to use this company as in evidenced with the following actions described. At this juncture, I really don't want their services. And here's why. We are a part of Choice Home Warranty, Home Maintenance Company. We were informed that Dirt Cheap Improvements would be coming to our home on 12/06/2021 to do repair work on two toilets in our home. We were given a window of 11 am to 3 pm for the representative from Dirt Cheap to show up. We were also told that we would be called when the repairman would be on the way. It's now Tuesday, December 7, 2021 and we have heard from absolutely no one. If this is how Dirt Cheap Home Improvements does its business, I'd advise anyone and everyone to avoid using this company. And this leaves me questioning our choice of Choice Warranty as our maintenance company as well.

James was called by our home owners insurance for our water heater back in March of 2021. He let us know what the issue was ,and we needed to get a new water heater. He gave us a decent price and we said ok . He came back to our house and installed the hot water heater with no adult there or even informing us that he would be returning to do the job. Never the less he intalled the water heater, and we thought our problem was solved. We now have a pipe that has busted ,and have water spraying out onto our carpet, and hardwood floor. We have tried to call him for 4 days straight at all hours. We have reached him once and he said he would be there in half and hour and that he tried calling the number we gave him and did not recieve an answer. I let him know that I know for certain an adult will be home so he can see what is going on with the job he did. No call ,No show, nothing for four days. Calls go to his mailbox that is full. We tried to let him come an fix his mistake or atleast let us know what went wrong, and he will not remedy the situation. I suggest that if you need something done for your home you do not use dirt cheap home improvements. Or James Norfleet. It will now cost us more in the long run. We have called a second plumber and they told us the pipe fittings are wrong size, and that he used PVC pipe when he should of used copper pipe for the hot and cold water to the tank. New plumber will have to re-do all the pipe installation. Do Not use this company it will cost you more to fix the problems because he wont fix them.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
