So far so good. Paul with CTI followed through and showed up on time for the initial inspection and the appointment with the insurance adjuster. I had called another roofing company 4 times to try and get them to show up, but they never did. All I know is Paul was very professional, and he SHOWED UP. The roofing job hasn't been accomplished yet, but my experience to this point has been positive.
Ok, the roof has now been completed, and it looks great! There were a few surprises along the way, but at the end of the day, they showed up and got it done! Details below:
Here's my experience in nut shell: Before they started working on my roof, I received an email saying that they would be monitoring the weather and would let me know when they planned to get started. To our surprise, on Monday morning, shingles were delivered to our house. I called CTI to see what the plan was, and they said they wanted to get the shingles delivered so they get started once there was a break in the weather. It would've been nice to know that shingles were going to be delivered, but no big deal.
The next morning, another surprise, a huge dumpster was being delivered to my driveway. I had to run out and ask the driver to pull out of the driveway so my wife and I could park our cars on the street. Which thankfully he did, or we would've been blocked in. Again, it would've been nice to know that the dumpster was being delivered so we could've parked on the street the night before, but I can't complain too much since I ultimately needed a new roof with our without knowledge of CTI's timeline. I called CTI to get a status, and they told me that the roofers would be showing up to get started that day...which was about 15-30 minutes after I got off the phone with them.
The crew did the tear off in the snow over the course of two days. They had to quit early the first day because of the weather, put down huge tarps over exposed parts of the roof to prevent water damage. They finished the tear off and had all the tar paper, drip edge, and ice and water shield installed by the end of the 2nd day.
To my surprise, they sent me an invoice for the added cost of replacing some of the plywood. As a customer, it would've been nice if they had called or knocked on my door to show me or explain that they were going to have to do that. For me, communication is key, especially when it has an impact on my wallet. I would've approved the replacement of bad plywood, but I just prefer surprises on birthdays and holidays.
They didn't show up the next day because of the forecast. The day after that, they showed up, worked through lunch time and finished the job by the early afternoon.
They cleaned up pretty good around the house, but I will need to clean the rain gutters a bit more to collect more nails and debris. One of my downspouts is curved at the top, and I noticed some nails in there when I got up on the house to take a look at their work. I had to put a strong magnet into the downspouts to reach and collect a bunch of nails that had fallen in there.
The dumpster was picked up a couple days later.
After looking at my driveway, I noticed a couple of hairline cracks in a couple of the cement sections, and some crumbling on one of the corners of amother section. I have sent CTI pictures of the damage and have yet to see how they will handle it. I'm sure they were caused by either the dumpster and/or the truck that delivered the shingles.
