Back Forty has been amazing to work with! We completed a set of floorplans then completely changed our minds and went back to them for a 2nd set. Heather has always answered any question I had quickly and with the honesty I asked for! She carried us through this process! (twice) Our builder received the plans and said he has never had a more complete and well-planned set of drawings. I am sad this part of the journey is over but so excited to build our home!

My wife and I worked with Christina M. and the Back Forty team on our fully custom barndo and Christina was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. We initially came to B40 with some loosely drawn floor plan ideas and B40 took those ideas and walked us through their process to help us ideate where needed but also bring our overall vision to life while giving suggestions along the way.

My GC is stoked to have such detailed plans and separately the architect is currently reviewing them and crafting a proposal for his services.. per my GC, the architect is seemingly charging us less than he normally does (likely because of what we're bringing to the table already!). This plan has also sped up the bidding process with all trades and vendors.. an absolute must-have IMO.

The exterior renderings and 3d modeling also really helped us visualize how to give our barndo the right amount of dimension so that it felt like a home and not a big rectangle.

My husband and I used Back Forty Building Co to customize their Lolo Plan. I enjoyed working with Heather. She was able to communicate our needs with the team. We had a setback with our wants not matching our budget and the team was able to help us scale down but still include all our needed items. Something out of Back Forty’s control but we were surprised to find out was our local building department required us to have our plans reviewed by an engineer within the state to ensure they met local regulations. Knowing that now; I am not sure it would have changed our decision. We are hopeful to have a home that will be perfect for us now and grow with our needs in all phases of our future. If you expect great communication or even to speak to anyone over the phone you should look elsewhere. The worst experiance of our build was dealing with Liv who was always too busy doing something else, when we waited months at a time to get answers via email.
We ended up having our engineers re-draw the plans because they were tired of waiting for her to respond. It cost us extra money but the engineers said they would not work with her any longer due to her lack of communication. Very poor professionalism.
I have since spoke to a few people.with the same experiance with Liv. The Barndo community is large enough that back forty shouldnt be your first choice.
Too bad, back forty is now associated with Mr. Barndominium, we enjoy Paul and the team on the you tube channel.
Just honest food for thought.

From the first email & phone call to now (17 months later), Liv & the staff of Back Forty Buildings have been nothing short of amazing. Their abilities to understand what would work best for us, working with us and our local design consultant … hands down best experience. I had heard horror stories about building a home and I was a little nervous. No horror stories from us. Liv understood our needs, modified the Dutton plan to fit not only our ‘asks’ but also the land we built on. Our builder appreciated the plans as they were well detailed, thorough and concise. Throughout the building process, and after, she has continued to be approachable and timely with her replies. I would do this all again! Liv made our “next chapter home” vision a reality.

Having my plans done with Back Forty Buildings was a great experience! They were so easy to work with, listened to my wants and needs in my build, and delivered a floor plan that met all my expectations. They were patient with me when I decided mid-planning to go a different direction, made the changes happily, and even rushed them through to meet my build start date. I felt they went above and beyond for me!

they are not engineers so if you live somewhere that requires your plans to be stamped you’ll have to pay an engineer. Which they gladly have an engineer ready to recommend but he wants to charge you the same 1.50$ sq/ft to rebuild the entire plan so basically you’ll pay double.

I don’t know why they draw plans when they aren’t engineers they just bought auto CAD and sell you expensive set of drawing. I looked o we the website and to my knowledge it’s not clear that they don’t stamp their plans. Hope this saves someone money.

Liv and her team have been absolutely phenomenal. From consultation to final delivery and even there after, liv has personally been responsive, detailed oriented, punctual on reasonable and last minute requests as took one of her base plans and transformed it into our vision.

We couldn’t ask for a better designer for our plans and have been fortunate to be able to work with a company based out the Midwest as we build our home in the southeast after we had a bad experience with someone more local.
