So I contacted a couple of remodeling companies back in late 2021 for a large kitchen remodel. I ended up going with ABA and couldn't be happier with my choice.
Our kitchen remodel was a full gut job with the added bonus of removing a wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room. We wanted to move around appliance locations too and install a huge new island along with new flooring and reroute an air duct that was in that wall being removed.
What I loved about ABA was how much they taught me in addition to how much work they did in terms of getting the job done and coming through to make sure everything was done right. This was my first home and first remodel and it started with Amanda coming through and walking us through goals, design, layout, finishes, and fixtures. She made sure we were heard and meeting with her at various supply and design places around town made sure we got our kitchen exactly how we wanted it.
She communicated that wonderful to our coordinator/project manager Joe. Joe was absolutely amazing to work with. He scheduled and oversaw all the different trades that had to come in and out for various parts of the process. He did amazing at all the things you expect of a general contractor, but the follow up and attentiveness he had during the process really did astound me. It felt like after every trade or at each milestone he was coming through for a walkthrough making sure everything was taken care of correctly. He'd find a quarter inch gap in the cabinet crown, mark it with painters tape, and by the time the next trade was scheduled it'd be fixed. When it was time for drywalling, he handed me the tape and told me "hey we're paying the drywall guy for the day, but what he needs to do in the kitchen is slightly less than a days work. Mark any spot in your house with cracked drywall and I'll see that he touches those up too". It was perfect since the whole house was getting repainted too, and it was things like that that really re-affirmed he was looking out for us. Got 4 spots in the living room, hallway, and front room patched for free out of that.
Even when Joe unfortunately came down with COVID, there was no slack on the project. He still called me to coordinate and had his son David, also part of the company, come through for walkthroughs. Clearly men cut from the same cloth there as they both had a sharp eye. There was another issue when it came to the air duct rerouted where the originally scheduled crew didn't show as a couple of their guys came down with COVID. He scheduled a new crew, the day before they called with a couple of their guys out with COVID, and somehow Joe still managed to pull a third crew in time to keep on schedule. He went above and beyond in managing the project and any issue that came up during the process. The man couldn't be stopped and he was such a wonderful guy to work with.
Overall, ABA exceeded my expectations. It's been almost 2 years now since the project completed, and I couldn't be happier with the result. While I didn't know much about the construction and home remodeling process back then, I definitely got to see how it should be done. Great job by the ABA team. Got to work mostly with Amanda, Joe, and David, but I'm sure there's a whole team of support that did wonderfully. Been 2 years and the workmanship has held up strong. Very happy.
