We were on a trip in Winthrop for the weekend and Jesse kindly agreed to meet us on a day the office was closed. He gave us a full rundown of the yurt building process, a tour of the manufacturing area, and answered any and all of our questions. He was there to educate us on their business and what they offer. He was not a pushy salesmen at all, only wanting to let us know of our options if we would like to move forward with a yurt build. My family thoroughly enjoyed our time (again, he met us on his off day to show us around). You can bet you’ll receive great customer service if you decide to build with SWY!

After looking at all kinds if options, I bought the 25' model. Two guys with some, but not much, construction experience stood it up on ICF forms with a non- crete gravel+insulation+T&G ply floor. Put a storage loft in half of it. Material quality & engineering on rafters, windows, and walls was very good. Customer support was outstanding. I may buy a 20 foot model later. I opted not to get the cedar exterior and will stucco. Good people & a sustainable, well done & innovative take on an ancient idea.

If you are thinking of building a yurt, I would highly recommend Smiling Woods Yurt. Our decision to go with them was based on several factors.

- we wanted a permanent structure, one make of wood that would last. The cloth yurts out there, as I understand, only last 25 years at best. Construction is good quality and very solid.

- we wanted a kit to make assembly easier. A yurt is a unique structure and having the experience of SWY behind us was a God send

- SWY has an integrated team: architect, engineering and fabrication. This was important to have the different dept. in good communication with one another especially with the regulation requirements in California.

- lastly, the support for the SWY team. Any question we had they supported and guided us through them.

Can't say enough good things about them. If we build a 2nd yurt. I'm going with SWY.

I love that I could tour the different sizes all set up for a visual of living round... I was having a difficult time wrapping my head around that one. We had a great discussion after with a rep, no high pressure sales, beautiful workmanship.

I love the yurts that they offer but the new website is kind of a pain to use. Looks like they may still be editing it possibly though.

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?
+-

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
