My experience at Red Roof in hotel was interesting. I stayed a total of 4 different times, and each experience was a little different than the other. I will say that if you are looking for a cheap stay, nice bed, and hot shower, this is your go to. The hotel attendant John, at night, is an absolute delight, he absolutely makes the stay 100% worth going back to. He is very much accommodating, and respectful. So if you have the pleasure of meeting John, you score yourself a good visit. I am, however, reviewing about my other 3 experiences with the check-ins without John. These 3 experiences have been the same with this particular hotel manager, named Joe. Please be absolutely aware if you meet Joe. He has short brown hair, child-bearing hips, and a little feminine energy. Especially if he doesn’t like you. I found it especially difficult to check in with him successfully the first time, without going through a obstacle course with him. Also, depending on who you are, or what you look like, will determine if he lets you know he’s a manager, don’t be swayed, he is, not the general manager, but one of the managers. But he always told me he wasn’t. My last 3 check- ins, were the EXACT same with him: I would make a reservation, go to check in for the reservation, and when it came to pay, my card would decline 2-3 times. So then I would run out of the building, check whatever I needed to check, because I KNEW my finances were in good standing, or else I wouldn’t be there, and come back in, and on the 3rd or 4th time, it would finally go through. It wasn’t until my most recent visit, that I caught on to the game he was playing, because on the 2nd time he had me run out, I came back in with my bank on the phone, asking them if they see a transaction even attempted, my bank teller even said he was playing with us, because with the bank on the phone in front of him, that was the QUICKEST that the transaction has EVER went through, out of the previous times before, when I had issues.
Of course, I went to the general manager, who is absolutely lovely by the way, her name is Shannon. I expressed my issue, and gave dates, explained the pattern with my difficult check-ins with Joe. However, I understand that as a manager, you want to protect the employee and the company, so all that was said was, no button was pushed to make your card decline, it was probably a system flaw, and its something they need to check out. She said she checked the cameras for the once incident, none noted of the other 3 times to show comparison. And of course, nothing was seen. I further filed a claim with the hotel, asked for a thorough investigation with cameras to show comparison about my 3 check -ins with him verses with others individuals. You know, if he had anyone else running out to check their finances, because their card declined 2-3 times? Lol, needless to say, they told me they weren’t able to resolve the situation, and that, “In this case, we have reviewed the situation and are unable to offer any additional resolution.” and that the matter was closed, 1 day after I filed the claim.
To anyone this situation has ever happened to, or similar in anyway, and you know you have the money in the card, and that everything is situated on your end, don’t be swayed. They will try to gaslight you, and make you believe it is an error with you, or flag it, like they did to me, as a system error. Please know, 1 you’re not crazy- patterns exist. 2. While there isn’t a decline /cancel button to push, what difficult hotel attendants can do, is cancel a transaction as you are about to pay, which would force it on your screen to say decline. And if you didn’t know, intentionally falsifying a decline, is illegal.
In conclusion, my stay was wonderful, but my check-ins were always difficult with JOE.
Hope this helps. Happy New Year!
