Recently had Octagon out for some attic mold remediation and re-insulation. The work seems to have been done well but overall the service provided was relatively weak. Octagon offers a 5 year warranty on their work if you offer get post remediation testing done which they offered to set up and I told them I would take advantage of. However right before my project started they told me it was my responsibility to schedule this and gave me two recommended companies. One of the recommended companies would not do the work because of common ownership, so not sure why they recommended it, but luckily I was able to schedule the other. I confirmed my test date as the Monday after the Thursday/Friday wrap up of my remediation and my insulation was supposed to start the following Monday, same day as the test, and I was told this would not be an issue the testing could be done before or after the re-insulation. I also had several bags of old insulation that were scheduled to be picked up Friday or Saturday, Monday at the latest. My testing was done on Monday, but the insulation crew never showed up. I eventually called and inquired mid-afternoon and was told it couldn’t be done until after the testing which was not what I was originally told. The old insulation also was not picked up. Finally, after a few emails and a call it seems more like my job was simply missed and they offered to come out end of the week, Friday, which while the best they offered, didn’t seem like they were making wrapping up my job as scheduled much of a priority or attempting to keep to the agreed upon schedule. They also never sent anyone to pick up the old insulation and finally it was removed by the insulation crew on Friday.
The more frustrating piece was while the contract does state they are not responsible containment barrier damage, and along with this type of damage there was additional damage in the work area extended beyond that but I’m understandable it may have happened in the course of performing the necessary work, they proceeded to ding, dent, scuff and dirty non-work areas in my house as well that they needed to pass through to get to the attic. They also did not put down protective floor cover requested and agreed to until after being reminded and after dirt had been spread throughout the hallway to the work area. Outside of the work area I have walls/molding with dings and scuffs, some that cleaned off and some that didn’t and dirty hand prints everywhere that needed to be cleaned off. Most of this was done simply due to dragging cords and hoses on vacuums through the house instead of properly rolling them up and carrying too much up and down the starts each trip. While much was cleanable some can only be fixed with repainting. The majority of this likely could have been avoided simply with a little more care and attention to detail on their part and likely all was certainly avoidable.
I did follow up with them about the above issues and was told my email was being forwarded to simply be ghosted after the fact.
While the work appears to have been done well, hard to recommend a company when the overall service was so poor.
