WARNING: BEWARE OF THIS CONTRACTOR
A Tale of Promises and Unfulfilled Dreams
Once upon a time, I entrusted my home remodeling project to Aleksandr Zhukovskiy, known in the trade as Yagor Construction Inc. and ModernGeneralContractor (spelled together!). At first glance, Alex appeared to be the ideal craftsman—friendly, charismatic, and full of grand promises. His warm demeanor and persuasive assurances made it easy to believe that every detail of the project would be executed flawlessly.
The early chapters of our story were filled with minor works—framing, drywall, and other structural elements that, while important, only hinted at the grand design. Yet, as the narrative unfolded, it became clear that the true masterpiece of the project—the intricate and critical steel beam installation—was being sidelined. Despite having received a substantial deposit and completing portions of the work, Alex inexplicably abandoned the project. In fact, the framing and drywall he managed to finish were so substandard that another contractor had to step in to correct his work—an admission, it seems, that he knew his work would never pass inspection.
In hindsight, the red flags were unmistakable from the start. I now realize that his efforts to dissuade me from pulling permits and scheduling inspections were nothing more than calculated moves. It appears that his reluctance to adhere to proper permitting was driven by the looming threat of a city building inspection that would have exposed his inability to meet industry standards—especially for the critical steel beam installation he never completed.
But what makes this story even more frustrating is that despite my numerous attempts to get a clear answer as to why he decided to abandon the project, I never received any justification—none, nada. He acknowledged owing me money and made numerous promises to repay it, but those promises turned out to be as empty as his commitment to the project.
Adding another layer to his deceptive tactics, although his license is issued under Yagor Construction Inc., he prefers to hide behind the name ModernGeneralContractor. This isn’t surprising, given that his prior company has already garnered a notorious reputation as an unreliable contractor, as evidenced by a slew of negative Yelp reviews. Such attempts to rebrand only underscore the hypocrisy and lack of accountability in his business practices.
I have since filed a complaint with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) and initiated a case in small claims court to address these unresolved issues and the financial losses incurred. I share this tale as a cautionary reminder for anyone considering his services: look beyond the charming façade, demand transparency and proper permits, and always insist on quality workmanship before entrusting your dreams to a contractor.
We hired a contractor who made a ton of mistakes. Alex was so professional and is a very gifted contractor. He came into the project and went through everything in detail and fixed all the issues we were having with plumbing, waterproofing, etc. He is amazing, I highly recommend him.
Alex is the most honest, professional and knowledgeble contractor. He remodeled all my bathrooms in a short time and I cannot be happier with his work. I went through so many contractors in my life and he is my number one. I would highly recommend him. I referred him to one of my friends and they cannot stop thanking me for how good he is. Definitely 5Stars!!!
