We hired them to replace a large living room window and install a sliding glass door. The window they installed leaks and is causing water damage and also makes a high pitched squealing noise with every wind event. The sliding glass door screen is nonfunctional. Calls to the company go unanswered and voice mail messages are ignored. We made literally hundreds of attempted calls to both the office number and the owner's personal phone. Dallas Nix, owner, will not pick up his phone and his personal voicemail box is always full. We've filed complaints to SD Attorney General's Office and the BBB. Next is filing with small claims. Save yourself the money and headache, this business needs shut down.
We won a judgement from the owner of this business. We gave him 18,500.00 to build a 4 season sun room. 2 years later after many broken promises and lies, we asked for a refund and to cancel the contract. This business then billed us 24,000.00 for early breach of contract because we hired someone else to do the sun room. Please spread the word to report this business to the Attorney General and Better Business Bureau so others can not have this happen to them. There are so many reputable contractors to choose from and Dallas L. Nix is not one of them.
We met the sales person Roger at either the home or outdoor show in February. We were surprised they were available to meet us that same month. They said a client had canceled and would be available to build a four seasons room by May. We gave the initial payment of $10,000.00 to Roger that evening after a lot of upcharging. The next visit was from Dallas and his foreman several weeks later in March to do the final measurements and look at the layout of where the four seasons room would be located. Dallas changed the slope of the roof line and said it would not be in May but would be at the end of June, and the building would be completed while waiting for windows. We gave the second payment of 10,000.00. We did not hear from the company until we finally pestered them at the end of June. We were unable to reach Dallas because his voicemail box is always full and kept leaving messages on the company's voicemail to call us back. When we did not hear from either Dallas or the company by July fourth, we called again and threatened to seek legal action. It was one week later, Dallas arrived at our house unannounced and stated that they could start on the project July 24th. We cleared off our deck and prepared for them to bring the materials and start. Two days before the date, we received a call from the foreman Doug, who said he would not be available due to a family emergency and would be out on July 27th. We received yet another call from Doug, who said he would again be delayed. It was at this time that we again said we wanted to cancel the contract and break ties with this company. We again made numerous phone calls and left numerous messages on the company's voicemail with no response. We ended up having to use different phone numbers in order for somebody to pick up the phone. When we finally spoke to Dallas in August, he was extremely belligerent and stated the windows arrived three weeks after we canceled. He also stated that he had to make up an expense list for his time doing the layout which we have never seen in order to determine how much money would be deducted from our $20,000.00 before we would be refunded. Still not heard from him or the company. We have since done some research on him and despite some good reviews which are probably there for padding there are many more negative reviews including on the BBB site, Google reviews and Yelp sharing the exact same scenarios we are going through. Some of them are almost word for word, including the excuses about waiting for windows and the inability to reach the company, Dallas, or to make the deadlines. We were willing to pay for the windows provided we see the invoice from the window manufacturer, but due to the contunual lack of professionalism, we want all of our money back. We were finally able to confront Dallas this year at the Stock Show only to be told more lies and then be threatened with slander. This just tells you how slimy he and his company is. We have now started legal action and encouraged others to tell the community about their false practices. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE YOUR MONEY!!!
