I just replaced a 12inch Whirlybird that had been on our garage for 36 years. It had weathered a severe hail storm and was still twirling. We had to replace it only because the top main shaft had finally worn through the top bearing water shield. The shaft was rubbing on the edge of the shield and was making a horrible noise. Oil only lasted about two weeks. Grease about the same. Maybe an upper thrust bearing might have added another 36 years. We were VERY satisfied with its longevity.
