I first talked with Dylan on 12/7/21, I wanted to replace soffits, fascia, some siding, and new gutters. After delays, 1/3/22 was the start date. They said they’d bring all materials and start working then.
On 1/3, 9:30 am, the crew did a walk-around and left. They didn’t have ANY materials but would have it the next am. Dylan promised that work would be finished by end of the week.
On 1/4, only 1 person showed. I was told that more people would be there after that and everything would be done on time.
I told Dylan that the “Attention To Details” listed their contract weren’t being done. Roof debris (see pictured nails on roof near the gutters), landscaping wasn’t protected (no tarps were used, paint all over the yard, see the 15-ft paint puddle picture), the crew ran a roller magnet once the entire time & I’m still finding nails/screws, daily cleanup never occurred. Metal, wood, caulk tube tips, etc. all over. “Attention To Details” never happened.
On 1/5, I told Dylan how the metal roof covering the overhang of my garage was damaged by the contractor’s ladder. Dented/bent all over, it needed to be replaced. Their solution was to hide it with new gutters.
On 1/8, I replaced the garage floodlights as they were painted over. I saw that the electrical boxes were gone. The attached picture shows how the lights were wired/attached. Ground wires cut, mounting brackets screwed directly into the fiberboard and the holes were starting to wallow out. The wiring kept the fixture from sitting flush against the soffit; it would swing like a chandelier. Dylan also saw this.
I saw old soffit/electrical boxes hidden beneath the new stuff. The picture shows their fiberboard over the old plywood. Either Kaiser didn’t remove all of the old material, or they slapped new soffit over the old stuff.
I told Dylan, he said that they would send out an electrician to fix this. The person who showed up wasn’t an electrician. His crew chief argued with me that the floodlights were installed correctly, as they were before. After getting the crew chief to accept that it needed to be fixed, the non-electrician took 2 hours to get the electrical boxes. He said he would install and caulk the boxes but only sealed one and left.
Dylan arrived on the 19th to finish up and clean up in the yard/driveway. 2.5 weeks for what I was promised would be a 3-day job.
After rain on 2/3, one of the new floodlights stopped working. I took it down, the contacts were corroded and the housing was full of water. I removed the mounting base, more water. I told Dylan the situation and how some of the fascia caulk looked incomplete, letting water in. He told me they’d get back to me. Dylan and Andrew showed up on the 11th and Andrew proclaimed that it was “completely sealed.” He said it was either a pre-existing condition (which I disproved by showing him the old light fixture with no water damage) or bad caulking for nearby siding that they didn’t touch. He said they did everything correctly. I then saw what’s in the picture with the 2 large yellow arrows and showed Andrew. Behind the fascia that they installed, no caulk was applied. He told me that he saw that but didn’t think it was the problem. So he either saw it and wasn’t going to say anything (dishonest) or he didn’t see it and was lying about it seeing it (inept and dishonest).
I said how mad I was, how much time and money this wasted. I asked if he would be happy with the shoddy work, pointing out the pictured fascia pinnacle or the pictured triangular fascia pieces next to the gutter. He told me that he “was sorry that I felt that way” and he thought everything was satisfactory. He stated how they come out 9 times, that they’ve been more than accommodating.
UPDATE 3/7/22:
After talking with the owner, several of the issues have been corrected while I fixed the rest.
