I was preparing to paint our hallway, so needed to remove four air vent covers. When we removed the vents, pieces of the wall crumbled and fell off, and other parts were very jagged. I called Jim The Handyman for a price estimate. Within days, Carlos was able to come and do the repairs. He and his assistant were polite, friendly, and did awesome work. They arrived on time, and were very efficient. The final bill was reasonable and the work was great! We have used Jim The Handyman in the past, and will continue to do so! Thanks for the great job!

My new louvered closet doors were installed with perfection by Neal - Jim The Handyman. He was on time, neat, tidy, quiet and smart with lots of experience. Jose did an amazing job cleaning up our brick stoop and steps which had a ton of cracks and needed to be repaired badly after the winter left it in bad shape. He worked in 100+ degree heat to get the job done and was a total professional through the whole job. Highly recommend.

We had excellent service today from Jorge Falcones with Jim the Handyman. Jorge undertook two projects involving our roof. These included: filling spaces between the outside paneling on both sides of our roof -and securing a new attic gable vents. He was articulate, conscientious, and competent completing the work in the time expected and within the agreed upon budget. We've had good fortune with many contractors with Jim the Handyman and Jorge's work will continue us looking forward to hiring this same company for future projects.

Professional, courteous, competent, affordable, honest. I can’t say enough nice things about my experiences with this company over the years. Most recently Neal, their door guy, replaced the weatherstripping around my condo door and adjusted the hinges so the door closes without scraping against the frame. He showed me how easily the weatherstripping insert can be replaced if it breaks down or gets torn so that I could do it myself next time if I wanted to. I will continue to rely on Jim and his workers for all of my handyman projects.

I am fairly new to the Northern Virginia area and found myself needing some handy work done in my home office and I was a bit nervous about using a service for many reasons but I was so absolutely impressed with Matt from Jim the handyman. From my initial call to the immediate scheduling and now completion of work I can say confidently I highly recommend this business! Matt was very professional and he was very quick and in good communication with me and obviously knew what he was doing. I highly recommend Jim the Handyman. Tim provided a prompt & thorough estimate for my project to replace a vanity, sink, LED mirror/medicine cabinet (250lbs), drywall repair & paint. I added on a few miscellaneous items while they were here. Mauricio & his team were reliable, efficient & professional. They took care to cover my floors & furniture, vacuum, remove items from property, etc. Pricing was reasonable & fully transparent. I will definitely call on them for my next project.

The one star is for the receptionist who was very nice when I was very frustrated. She had great communication skills. She is the reason I asked for an estimate. The person who came out was pleasant. The workers if given the time to do the job and do it correctly would be great but that isn’t the case. On Monday they arrived at 10 am left at 1:30. The two seams that needed to be repaired along with the ceiling painted. They left when the paint was wet only to look at it hours later to still see the seams and the paint bubbling. They had to come back the next day to “feather” the ceiling. They let the compound dry over night and came back the next day. The paint was wet but thankfully the job is finished. What I could say to management is to let the experts who are the workers do the job but you need to give them time to do it once and get the job done right. Coming back 3 times to finish a rushed job because they have to get to the next job isn’t going to create a happy customer. I will never use this company again. Lesson learned never pay for a job upfront. Pay when the job is complete and customer is satisfied.

We recently hired the company “Jim-the-Handyman” to install 1) a vanity in our master bathroom; 2) to restore our downstairs bathroom which needed drywall, a toilet, a sink and a door installed; and 3) a replacement of a pocket door and its runner. The vanity installation required delicate cutting of bathroom wall tile. We are happy to report that this work was done quickly and professionally. In fact, we could not be more pleased with the work that was done by Isacc and his helper. We believe that Jim-the-Handyman is very lucky to have such talented and dedicated employees. If we could, we would put them in for a pay raise. We are recommending Jim-the-Handyman to our friends and family.

I had four different projects to complete: replace flood light fixtures, retape drywall and paint, remove deck trim and repair wood rot on deck support beam. Mauricio and team are incredibly hard-working, a beehive of work conducted over 5 hours and I don't think anyone took a break or had a meal. I also worried that no one wore hearing or eye protection while operating loud power tools. On time, on budget, solid workmanship.

This company is wonderful! They gave me an estimate and an employee was out here all within 24 hours. Matt was fantastic! Very helpful and kind. :)

First time I hired him, he did great finishing the jobs all around the house (inside and out) and charge me the materials plus labor at $20.00/hour. He is quite slow and he charges you for his lunch hour. And leaves dirt everywhere.
Second time I called him to clean up my garden, collect the leaves, etc. He only work from 9:33 AM till 3:30, Did not pick up the leaves from the backyard saying it was too cold. He told me he will come the week after to finish, since the weather was going to be milder and also fix my leaking toilet, plus finish the back yard and enclosed my deck for the winter. For the work done on the front yard and some in the backyard, billed me $211.00. When Asked why so high, he responded his hourly rate was $30/hour, and not $20 like the previous job.
The next week came and he did not show up. When asked why he said I did not confirmed with him and he took another job. Really???
As far as I know He said he was coming for sure. And I said great!
He did not have the decency to call me and cancel. And his price per hour went up all of a sudden?
Looking at the garden work, it was not done properly, left dirt all over the place, plants that he took out were spread all over the place, never placed in a bag. And went out through my garage, spreading the dirt all inside.
So, he will do a decent job for you at first and charge you a lower price, and the get you with a higher price and a mediocre job the next.
Very dishonest.

Two of the workers just left my house and I couldn't be happier with the service. This was my first time using Jim the Handyman and there are several things they were great at. The estimate was very accurate to what I was charged, the service was done quickly, the workers were very friendly, and they also gave me suggestions for things that I was unsure of the best method to fix. The workers cleaned up well before leaving and made sure I understood the bill. I can't recommend this company enough. I'm very impressed.

The company’s estimator came as scheduled, I walked him to every area that needed repairs, to the rotted garage door panels, wood siding repairs, and the house outdoor wood to be caulked and painting on ground and second floors.
After I approved the estimate price for the work to be done. The very next day their handyman Jorge Falconer arrived. And Jorge walked with me to each repair area to confirm again exactly what I wanted done. I handed him my custom matching paint, and 6 hours later the work was completed! Perfect, flawless, no paint mess and no cleanup for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve used Jim the Handyman services occasionally and they’ve always done beautiful work, were on time and very attentive to keeping the work area clean.
Today Jose came to repair my 2 wooden gates that had settled and wouldn’t close or lock. Jose’s skills are carpentry, painting, and stone. His work is impeccable, he was neat, explained why he had to reset my garden gates so they cleared my flagstone walk, and also move my rear gate lock because of settling. He primed & painted and made all work perfectly. I’m so pleased I asked him to return yo address some fence issues, which he suggested 2 options: one seemed more durable than the other and possibly less work. Finally I found a reliable, skilled, and knowledgeable person to repair the carpentry and painting jobs that crop up owning a 240 year old home!

Franco the painter and Jorge the installer of sun block on our sky lights are excellent workers. They both were on time and the work is superb.

My experience with them was a mixed bag. First of all, they give me a detailed fixed price estimate instead of a rough time and material based estimate, which I like very much. Second, they are easy to work with, accommodating my changes to the work list. Third, the work seems been done clean and neat in most places except on my roof. Finally, the reason I give them a 3 star is that they installed a kick-out flashing on my roof by screwing the metal sheet directly on top of my shingles, without applying any sealant. The screws did penetrate the shingles and the insulation flashings underneath, creating two potential leak points on my roof. I don't understand why they do it like that as all other works were done OK to me except this one.

My toddler boys are destroying my house. We needed bifold closet doors repaired, a storm door was off the hinges, and sliding door that wouldn’t close. They have a door expert and he fixed everything in just a couple of hours. He was professional and kind. Absolutely would use their services again. They also probably saved me a thousand bucks because I didn’t know how to repair the storm door, I was thinking I would just have to replace it with a new one. So glad he was able to repair.

We needed rotted fenceposts replaced on our property. Based upon a very positive, past experience with Jim The Handyman, I didn't hesitate to give them a call once again. And once again they didn't disappoint! Leo came to do the work, and I can't say enough good things about Leo's craftsmanship, his professionalism, the quality of his work, and the efficiency with which he completed the project. So if you need fence repair work done, call Jim but ask for Leo!

I am not an easy person to please, particularly when it comes to contractors/home vendors. I am typically disappointed and find a lot of companies do not do what they say they will do. After a recent windstorm my storm door was ripped off and destroyed. I had no prior knowledge of Jim the Handyman and had not used them before. I reluctantly took a chance. I called and a gentleman came over and was pleasant with my wife and was not condescending to her as I was at work. He gave a reasonable quote to replace the door and the work was scheduled for the following week. I even mentioned that we were flexible and if any cancellations came in, we could take the open spot. The did call and we were able to have the door installed a day early. The work done was great and we could not be happier. They did what they said they would do and this is what is most important to me. I would certainly recommend Jim and his team and will rely on them again.

The rake trim wrapping on our soffit panels have pulled off due a big tree branch landing the cable wire. I contacted Jim The Handyman and the process of getting an estimate was hassle-free and so easy. Jorge, the handyman assigned to the project was punctual,polite and finished the job in no time.

Due to water seepage from shower pan to underneath garage ceiling, Jim The Handyman was contracted to revamp my bathroom and repair garage ceiling. It was a job extremely well done far beyond my high expectations.

Tim’s estimate was clear and transparent with competitive and fair quote. He was responsive and knowledgeable. He invited the lead technician to meet me to confirm the full scope of the project. It was an important first step for successful planning and execution.

Lead technician Isaac with a team of 4 dedicated and skilled members did a fantastic job for 5 consecutive days without a single glitch. By removing old tiles, replacing rotten subfloor plywood, strengthening support beams, building new shower unit, installing bathroom floor tiles, repairing ceiling drywall and fixing ceiling light, the process was highly coordinated and exceptionally effective. Isaac’s leadership and craftsmanship were highly commended and appreciated.

Luke did a thorough inspection for quality assurance. His visit was crucial for the success of the project. I was impressed by his sincerity and enthusiasm for high quality standards.

Overall I strongly recommend Jim The Handyman without reservation. They surely had done an impeccable job.

Jim The Handyman repaired my bump out sliding door and windows. The team led by Igor was superlative. Milton, Altan and Jesus are professional and dedicated in repairing and painting the bump out above and below the deck. Their work was commendable and highly appreciated. Milton is one of the best in his profession with skills and full commitment to excellence. I strongly recommend their services for similar tasks in the future.

The team of August 8-9 was invited back to repair and paint my rear windows before cold weather. Igor, Milton, Altan and Jesus again did a fantastic job. The team truly deserves my heartfelt recommendation for an A+ service.

I contracted with Jim the Handyman to replace an attic ladder/stair. Installation was a bit tricky as a standard pull-down attic ladder wouldn’t fit. After the original planned replacement ladder turned out to be unavailable, they came up with an alternate solution that worked out great. Gabriel and his helper were very professional and did great work reframing the opening and installing the new stair and trim. I’m very happy with the end result.

I love JTH! I use them for all my projects around the house, and for our small business! Can't recommend enough. Always friendly, on time and professional.

Problem with exterior shutters on home. Reattach one and secure other shutters. Contacted Jim The Handyman, scheduled work. Aaron showed up promptly, started work and explained status of other shutters. Secured and checked all shutters. Professional in approach, good communication skills. Definitely pleased with this maintenance and would use and recommend.

We had several sections of water damaged paneling replaced in the basement. From the on-time, knowledgeable estimator, to the scheduler who stayed in touch and alerted us of each upcoming appointment, to the skilled, neat, pleasant carpenter, I could not have been more impressed with this group. They were also half the price of a carpenter I have used in the past. The original estimator stopped by during the job to provide some additional materials and check on progress. We had been warned the paneling could not be matched exactly, I tried myself and could not, and they actually did find an exact match. Mauricio reattached all the old trim pieces around a window and other edges which was like doing a puzzle, I don't know how he did it. My husband had replaced an electrical outlet before the new paneling and it stuck out a little. I called them back, Mauricio came right away, did not charge anything and had an ingenious solution to fix a problem that was our doing. So happy to have found them and look forward to other projects.

We had Jim the Handyman come and take on a number of tasks, including replacing posts that were rotting for our deck, some door repair, dryer duct replacement, cabinet door alignment, and brick motor repair. The primary technicians were Efrain and Neal and they were on time and completed the tasks to our satisfaction. But the added bonus was just how pleasant they were. They were very personable and polite. We will certainly reach out to Jim the Handyman for future tasks.

I had my kitchen backsplash tiled and it turned out beautiful! They were very professional from beginning to end. Extremely pleased!

I needed help with hanging curtains and hired Jim The Handymann. The handyman came and it appears he had no experience hanging curtain rods. They charge by the hour and the handyman worked extremely slowly and still managed to drilled holes in the wrong spot even after I instructed him to measure twice before making holes. He did 65% of the job and left for another job but still wanted to collect payment. Worse, he didn’t repair the holes before leaving or tighten the rod screws. He went back to his car 15 times while on the clock.

I called their office and requested the job be completed and done properly before I make payment. I also asked them send a different handyman that works diligently but they sent the same handyman. This was not a good experience for me. 6.5 hours to hang Curtin rods on 3 standard window and 3 window bay window seems excessive. Quite frankly I felt what transpired was unethical.

I don’t recommend you hire JIm The Handyman but if you decide to give them a chance due to other glowing reviews here I would be cautious and only hire them for fix priced jobs

Hired them to paint my office, there were some issues with the final job. Called Codi and had one of the owners come out supervise the job to fix the issues.

Luke was very calm and professional with my moment of dissatisfaction and disappointment with having them come back and paint my office properly.

I almost never give reviews but this establishment is good, so I wanted to leave a review to let others know. This team is professional and the company is clearly ran very well. The communication is very good, the staff is very friendly and on time, quotes are detailed with full transparency, and the work done is great!

Used them to repair rotted wood on an exterior door and replace the seal under the door. They also did some minor repairs to my leaders/gutters. They have a good process in place for estimating work and then scheduling the repairs. Professional handmen showed up to do the work and completed it ontime and per the estimate.

Had a unique lift install in my garage with a drop ceiling. Jim evaluated the job with provided photos and install instructions and returned a detailed quote that showed they actually understood the work. Jim’s crew came out right on time to install and did a great job on the install. They even took the time to go over operation of the lift with me and make sure everything was working properly. They were very professional, efficient and left the work area just like they found it. Highly recommend for any home improvement/repair/installs!

Have never used a handyman service but was so pleasantly surprised. The service was just wheat I needed. I can do a weak things myself but there are times when you need a professional. Reasonable price and the work was perfect. I am already looking to hire him again. Thank you.

We had a great experience with Jim the Handyman. The process is simple, straightforward and appropriately priced. We were so fortunate to be assigned Henry who was prompt, professional, friendly and he did a great job repairing 17 drywall areas (repair, patch and paint) that were cut out after new lighting installations. I even goofed up and we needed paint picked up, I ordered it and Henry drove to pick it up for us rather than rescheduling or prolonging the job until we got more paint. Highly recommend booking with Carissa or Grace who are kind, responsive, efficient and organized. All around great experience, we're JTH customers for life.

Jim the Handyman has done four recent jobs for me. They hung a new dining room light; painted and installed new fixtures in my powder room; cleaned my dryer vent and installed a new outdoor vent guard; and painted and installed new hardware on my front door. Their work has been great, their office staff has been very responsive, and their prices are fair. Very pleased and will use them again.

For the record.....I have not had any experience with this business. I am, however, looking around on the web right now for this type of service, reading reviews and doing some research before I call anyone. Going over the reviews for Jim The Handyman, I noticed the company ONLY replies to positive (5 star) reviews! Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it? As a perspective customer, I am more interested in seeing how a company handles & addresses negative experiences / reviews. That tells me more about that company than those 5star reviews. With that said, I guess I will continue looking. Thanks to all those who share their experiences, good or bad, and thanks to those companies who show they care about their customers (and not just their 5star ratings) by responding to the less satisfied and do what is needed to maybe turn them to customers satisfied at a 5star level. P.S. I had to choose a star rating or Google wouldn't POST the note.

I contacted this company to remove some kitchen cabinets and dispose a double oven. Originally I was quoted $700 for above described work. On the actual workday, I asked for additional service of removal of granite tile backsplash. Igor and Milton did a wonderful job of taking care of all the work I requested but I was surprised on the $1500 bill I received at the end of the day which included 5 hr of drywall repair charge at the rate of $100/a hour. Igor left the job site early but left an invoice with Milton before he even finished with the work. By the end of the day, Milton told me that he wasn’t done with the work and need to come back for second coat of patching drywall. I proceeded to call their office to schedule for a second visit. On the second visit, Igor called and asked me what I needed done so I told him what Milton told me. I was unaware that Igor had already sent along a second invoice with Milton for the work before he finished the job. I didn’t realize there was additional cost until Milton finished the job hours later. There was a communication breakdown since Igor never told me there would be additional cost over the phone. I had to pay another additional $475 for 4 1/2 hr of drywall & painting plus $30 material fee. Igor ended up overcharged me by half a hour, at $95 a hour it seems excessive for putting on second coat of drywall, sanding and painting.

Gustavo from Jim the Handyman caulked and painted the window sills at my townhouse today. He did a great job! It took him about 90 mins. He was thorough and tidy. It was also a bonus that Gustavo is pleasant. I've used Jim the Handyman for many, many years. The company has transitioned to be for available especially on short notice to take care of those jobs I don't want to do or know how to do. I highly recommend Jim the Handyman.

I used Jim the Handyman to replace the rotten trim and brick molding around the garage door, replacing the wood with PVC. Leo and Rakeem did a fantastic job on the trim, ensuring everything fit and was caulked up properly. Looks great!

I also had Gustavo help install some eye bolts so I can hang string lights over my deck. He was great to work with and was able to accommodate my crazy schedule that day. I hung the lights a few days later and the eye bolts held up very well due to an excellent installation.

I'd definitely hire those gentlemen again.

Horrible customer service. Had to call multiple times to get an appointment scheduled for an estimate. No response and lack of coordination internally. Not sure about their quality of service, but definitely not a good first impression if they can’t get appointments scheduled or have the decency to call back.

We've used Jim the Handyman now for several repairs and have always been very pleased with their service and the quality of the people they send to our house. We asked Neil to install a door at the top of the stairs, which he was able to do easily and make it look like it had always been there. Carlos did a great job at painting the door as well. Jeffrey came and installed outdoor lights and repaired our fence gates, and he did such a great job! One one of the gates, the light didn't quite fit (I'd bought it myself, not realizing that might be an issue), and to make it work he actually cut a notch in the gate so it swings past the cowl of the light fixture. Just fantastic craftsmanship!!! We have them coming in the next few weeks to reset some pavers on our patio and to give us an estimate for repairing some brick work around the patio. They are our go-to company for as long as we're in the house. Call them....you won't be sorry!

Jose and Rakeem showed up on time and started on the repair of my front door immediately.
My house was built in 1939 and the solid oak front door had never been touched. It was loose at the hinges, the finish was severely weathered and the old copper weather-stripping was preventing the door from closing completely.
It now looks like it must have looked 80 years ago, which is to say absolutely beautiful. Jose and Rakeem did a wonderful job and would recommend them to anyone. Fair price for a lot of hard work.

Using a fake name so the man I spoke to won't figure out my last name. Had a man come into my workplace wearing a Jim the Handyman shirt. Asked me where I lived and proceeded to tell me where he lives. As a young female, you don't ask somewhere where they live in a workspace and proceed to give me directions to your home. Writing a review because this was a grown man and this man is an employee visiting people's homes. Hope you don't have a daughter.

***Edit 5/6/2021*** After a bit of a rough start during the estimating process, I decided to schedule Jim the Handyman to relevel my patio pavers and repaint/fix an interior wall after removing a large picture frame. The team showed up prepared and ready to go during their scheduled time. The team worked quickly and efficiently to make the necessary repairs, while extending COVID-19 courtesies and safety measures. I would highly recommend Jim the Handyman and will certainly use them again.

Earlier this year we first engaged Jim to repaint a bathroom after invasive plumbing work. This week Jorge constructed a small wood screen in the front yard to hide our trash can, replace and paint rotted wood on the front porch facing, and replace lawn edging along our driveway and adjoining neighbor's front yard. Jorge is at the top of our list for skill, initiative, professionalism, easy to work with, and it was an overall great experience.

We had a large crack in our ceiling that needed to be addressed before we could finish a DIY painting project that we had already started. Our home was in shambles and we needed help fast. Jim the Handyman was able to get someone out to provide an estimate which was extremely reasonable and then they scheduled someone to come out the next day. The work was done magnificently and we were able to get our painting project done that weekend. So thankful for this team!

Setting up an appointment with the company was a breeze, whether it’s via email or phone. Carlos, our assigned handyman, came in on time within our scheduled timeslot and did an excellent job at everything that needed to be done in the house: hanging up pictures and a medicine cabinet, and fixing a broken coffee living room table. Very courteous and a pleasure to work with! 10/10 would recommend him and Jim the Handyman!!

Jim was the 3rd handyman we spoke with. We got 2 quotes that were astronomical in price and I knew what we needed done shouldn't cost what these other contractors were quoting me. Jim The Handyman was the 3rd handyman we reached out. His cost came in 75% cheaper than the other 2 estimates. Naturally this made us a little nervous at first, but nerves quickly went away when we met Jim. He was on time, professional, kind, courteous, and knowledgeable. They squeezed us in to their schedule. Neil was the contractor sent to our house to do the door remodel work. He was on time, personable, & a perfectionist (like me). I hired Jim The Handyman to screen-in my porch. A very hard-working employee named Henry did the work on a Friday and Saturday. He was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and an absolute professional. Both my husband and I are thrilled with the work he did. Henry worked all alone during two hot and humid days fitting the framework, painting, affixing the screen, fitting the door and caulking. He was a wonder to watch! The porch looks beautiful making this part of our house enjoyable to use without mosquitos and the worry that our cat will escape when we go out there.

I have used Jim The Handyman for years for many different home projects big and small and they always do an amazing job!! They are efficient, honest and skilled. They just replaced decades old ceiling fans with new remote controlled fans which look and work great!!

Fast turn-around on the estimate, and the job was done in a very professional, polite manner after some starts and stops due to Home depot shipping issues from the origin. Regardless, the job prep labor and clean-up were done well and FOR THE ESTIMATED PRICE to the penny. None of that home depot installer malarky about how screwing in a lightbulb will take 4 men 6 days and a thousand more than the estimated cost.

As an edit I had the 5 star experience with a job performed by Jorge today installing an outdoor railing on a freshly laid concrete walkway. Best response to my call, scheduling was easy as pie, Jorge came on the spot of time did the job professionally and with care. Oh and the price was reasonable too!
