My house got hit by a tree and the insurance company (one with AA in it's name) did all the sleezy tactics you'd expect of those typical ones. The initial estimate and payout was only 25% of what was needed to repair the house. Burned through two contractors and 7 months of time lost just battling with them. Fortunately, I was steered towards Jim Hicks while searching for a third.
Either Jim was a top notch lawyer who changed professions or he missed his calling. The man is a warrior, wielding phone and keyboard to beat the insurance company into paying for all the work needed.
Haegan is a dedicated foreman who truly cares about the quality of work and getting your home restored asap. He made recommendations for making improvements during construction that I took him up on that turned out great. And everything billed was exactly as I approved.
Kim is awesome. An angel of paperwork that would transform the government and healthcare systems for the better if they had armies of her.
All in all, very happy with the results and highly recommend.

Most people don't understand the process for an insurance claim and accept what they are given. I've worked with Jim Hicks both professionally and personally now. Jim and his staff were fantastic with their follow up. He knows how to navigate the insurance companies.
No one likes being displaced or living while construction is going on in your home but the contractors that worked in my home were professional, courteous and cleaned up everyday.

Jim and his team were the only contractors in the area who made us feel confident that our project would be manageable. After a kitchen leak necessitated a huge overhaul, Jim and Co helped us work out the different plans of attack based on cost. What's even better is how they helped with insurance: Jim and some of his employees are trained on how to effectively and efficiently deal with insurance companies, which was what sealed the deal for us. Jim made us customers for life, and while I'm not hoping for another event that requires insurance to get involved, we are considering some other upgrades to our home and Jim is the only person around here that we'd even dream of calling to help get it done.

So Jim is for lack of anything better, solid professional. This guy worked with me for 8 months to settle an insurance claim and got my kitchen fixed. Not only was it fixed, it looks better now than it did before I had my water damage. Jim, very flexible and funny guy that you would want to have a beer with. Kim, awesome! Super kind, super helpful and someone you can just talk to! They helped me when all other contractors couldn't or just blew me off and Jim worked with me until the job was done. If you need a pitbull to fight against these wicked insurance adjusters then you want to work with Jim. Will use again!

Can't speak for the work but if it's any testament to the way they drive it is atrocious. Watched a company truck almost rear end 3 different vehicles, and flipping people off that put a blinker on and changed lanes with several car lengths of space and passing people in turn only lanes, as well as going straight at red lights from the turn only lane.

We had a complicated water leak issue that other contractors couldn’t resolve. Jim Hicks Home Improvement was referred to us by a friend, and they figured things out on the first visit! Very thorough, professional, and easy to work with. Also laid out a plan of action, which will address the problem once and for all. Kudos to Jim Hicks Home Improvement staff!

My kitchen was remodeled by Jim Hicks one year ago. I love it more now than I did right after the remodel. They did such a great job. A minor problem came up a few months later, and they were quick to come out and fix it. it was just a drawer problem. The experience was just great. The communication was excellent and the work is excellent. I highly recommend them.

Once we got past the initial weeks of dealing with the insurance company (which were terrible…) the project went very smoothly! If you can get your project into the hands of Keith Danico, you are set, he was just the best!

They were amazing helping us fix our shower. We struggled with our insurance and they stayed with us every step of the way until we got a working shower again!

I had Mr. Hicks and Zach out for an estimate to my home due to water damage. I will start by saying, Zach was very professional and helpful. However, the owner, Jim Hicks was not professional. He is kind of rude and has a condescending demeanor. I understand working with insurance companies can be stressful. But it’s a choice as a business owner to except insurance. Mr. Hicks didn’t appear in the short minutes that I spoke with him that he knew how to handle his emotions enough for me to want to move forward past that first meeting. He probably shouldn’t except insurance jobs because it clearly stresses him out. As a homeowner already dealing with a mess,
you don’t need a stressed out contractor. Again, Zach was amazing but unfortunately he doesn’t run the company.

Great work at a reasonable price. Staff goes above and beyond to help the customer get exactly what they are looking for.

Everyone we worked with on the Jim Hicks team was professional, skilled, and responsive. After consulting with other local providers, the clear difference in their level of expertise and customer service made this team the easy choice. They understood our needs and provided a high-quality solution. We will definitely use them again for future home improvement projects.

The contract was straightforward. The work was completed as promised. The foreman oversaw the project and ensured quality workmanship. I will use this firm for other projects. I recommend you use them as well.

***** I stand behind every word that I said about this business. I too was contacted by DPOR and told that although Mr. Hicks acted unprofessionally, they have no control over that. I have yet to be replied to about the damage (destroyed dishwasher, damaged refrigerator, damaged wall) and have been completely ignored by Hicks construction. Please read my other reviews. They are not abusive- they are truthful-not abusive. Mr. Hicks forgot to mention that my initial review of his business was forcefully removed after he had his lawyer send a threatening message, demanding it be removed. That is abusive. You can see from his response, that he is abusive. I say again, buyer beware. I would never use Hicks again, nor would I ever recommend them.

I had an extension done to my house about 2 yrs ago. Jim is very knowledgeable individual and his understanding of my wants for our project was great. The prihect took a little longer than expected due to issues with the york county bldg and Chesapeake board on specific current conditions as to the site location. But it was a slow process but yaken care of. Overall the project was a success my wife and I have been happy with our addition and to take advantage of our outdoor deck.

We hired this company after a tree fell on our sunroom in April 2020. We went off of our realtors recommendation for contractors as we were new to the area. What a mistake! It took them 10 months to get us back in our home. And even after being back in our home they were STILL doing work. Meanwhile brand new homes in our neighborhood we’re going up in 3 months and people moving in them. Don’t expect direct communication with this company or it’s owner unless it’s about money. Even then, the owner might only email you. I called several times to Jim to try to get my issues resolved and not ONCE did he ever call me back. Only emailed my husband about money. They also stole money from the insurance company and us! This is a long story cut short. I’m sure their reply will be contradictory and defensive but I speak the truth. RUN and find someone else if you need a contractor. What a nightmare.

We hired Jim Hicks to remodel our master bathroom and install a walk-in tile shower. We are very pleased with the result as the bathroom looks new now. Haegen diligently worked with us to correct a manufacturing defect with the shower door to ensure everything worked as advertised. Jim Hicks and his team ensures the work is done right!

The salesman never gave me a bid. When I called the office Kim said they were backed up and it might be two weeks before I get a bid from them. I stated all I want is a bid. She then told me maybe I should go with one of the other contractors .
What kind of response is that?

I am pleased with the final work as well as the ease of the entire process from estimating to contract signing to installation and payment.

Unfortunately I had an estimate done on 07/26/2018. After talking with them for the next few weeks I'm told they are too busy to even give me an estimate on 08/24/2018. I would avoid them if possible, if they cant take on an estimate would you want them to work on your home? I would not and thankfully will not.

I hired Jim Hicks Home Improvement to replace a roof on my cape and my garage. The crew arrived on time and completed the job in a timely manner. They cleaned up the area before they left and it was like they were never there. I have known Jim Hicks for almost 15 years. Jim has done a lot of odd jobs for my house and my rental property. Him and his guys have been a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend them.

I needed a ridge vent replaced. The workmen did not install the new shingles properly, the roofing felt was left exposed as well some nails holding it down. I have it in writing from another contractor that this is improper installation.

There was miscommunication throughout what should be a simple process.
The clean-up afterwards left something to be desired.
The resolution of the problems has not gone well and it appears I may need to bring in another company to redo the job right.

Jim understands how a home should be built and he has this uncanny ability to find the problem and draft a solution, it's almost like he can see through walls.
