My wife and I couldn't be more pleased and happy with the porch addition that HomeMasons built for us. Their staff was extremely professional and courteous at all times. Most importantly, they were always available for progress updates and scheduled work. Trust is not always easily attainable but Mason, Charles, Rob, Kevin and Rafa earned every bit of ours.

Concerning HomeMasons, Inc.,

The one word my wife and I agree on concerning the craftsmanship of our recently renovated entire first floor is “superior.” From design through completion, ours was a collective—and perhaps more importantly—collaborative experience.
Phillip, the designer of our remodel, created a warm and inviting space. He listened to our concerns and suggestions and weaved them into exactly what we envisioned and then some.

Kevin and Rafa, the main two craftsmen, undertaking our renovation were committed to excellence in every aspect of their work … and it shows. From demolition to those last few items on the check list, they were professional and responsive. We can’t sing their praises enough! The Project Manager, Charles, oversaw the entire project. He informed us throughout the process, in military efficiency we might add, what was going to happen, when it was going to happen and when it would be completed. Kudos to him as well! And not to forget Mason, the founder of HomeMasons and architect by training, offered some insightful design additions that enhanced the finished product.
We are sure you will be delighted with HomeMasons if you choose them to create your new space.
Thank you HomeMasons

Amazing company, quality work, best customer service we’ve experienced since moving to Virginia. They are the first company we contact when planning a project because they are honest brokers; if the work is not something they do in house they let you know up front it will be sub contractor. The last project they did for us was to install three bathroom exhaust fans. Several years later one of the bathroom exhaust fans they installed stopped working after the HomeMasons warranty had expired; they contacted manufacturer obtained replacement motor and installed at no cost. Should expand their services to teaching other companies how to treat their customers.

I am absolutely thrilled with the work done by Shane Skinner and his exceptional team on the remodel of our upstairs full bathroom! From start to finish, Shane's professionalism, expertise, and personal touch made all the difference. He managed the project with incredible attention to detail, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and according to plan. Shane's communication was outstanding—he always kept me informed and took the time to address any questions or concerns I had. The project simply wouldn’t have been the success it was without his leadership.

A special shout-out also goes to Mason Hearn, the design manager, whose talent and professionalism truly brought the vision for our space to life. Mason’s design concepts were spot-on—he took the time to understand exactly what I was looking for and created a beautiful, functional layout that perfectly matched my vision. His expertise in guiding the design process made all the difference, and I am absolutely in love with the final result. It’s clear that Mason is not only a design expert but also an incredibly thoughtful and professional individual, which made working with him an absolute pleasure.

The rest of the team—Rafal, John, and Kevin—were all equally impressive. Each one of them brought a high level of professionalism, skill, and a friendly, personable attitude that made the entire experience enjoyable. It was clear that they worked together seamlessly, and their respect for each other and for the project was evident every step of the way.

A special mention goes to Flavio, the tile expert, who did an absolutely stunning job. The tile work exceeded my expectations—each piece was perfectly placed with precision and care. His craftsmanship really elevated the entire look of the bathroom.

All in all, this project was a complete success, thanks to Shane, Mason, and their incredible team. I couldn’t be more pleased with the result, and I wholeheartedly recommend them for any remodeling project. If you’re looking for a team that combines professionalism, expertise, and a personal touch, look no further than Shane and his crew!

Was referred to HomeMasons by a friend and am extremely happy with the results. As a first time homebuyer in a house that needed a kitchen remodel Mason helped me understand the process and was there to help each step of the way. The project manager Shane Skinner was fantastic and kept me in the loop each step of the way as the project progressed and changed. His team of John Hanahan and John Johnstone were also professional and did fantastic work. Will definitely turn to them for any future projects.

A little late in review but definitely needs one! I had an excellent experience with Home Masons. I had won a gift basket which included 4 hours of free handy man services. When I called them to schedule the appointment, I was told that the owner, Mr. Hearn will call to follow up and he did and as the saying goes, first impression is the best impression. Mr. Hearn was very courteous and friendly to talk to. I went over what I wanted to get done and he paid attention. He came out to take a look at the projects that needed to be done and gave a very clear estimate of the timeline.

John and JJ were the ones who came out to work on the to-do lists and they cruised through the list like a breeze! They were very friendly, cordial and very professional. They worked through the list very fast but very efficiently. Would HIGHLY recommend Home Masons and John and JJJ to get your long awaited To-do-list taken care of!

As background, our relationship with Mason and Home Masons extends over 20 plus years. That says a lot in a sea of contractors to choose from. We had Mason do a major home renovation years ago in Richmond with exceptional service and spectacular results. If you appreciate quality and attention to every detail, knowing that this costs a bit more, you will do well with Home Masons.
So, we just recently asked Mason to tackle a complete gut and remodel of a waterfront home and garage in the Northern Neck which had been essentially abandoned; we had watched it sit untouched for years next to our existing cottage and finally acquired it. We were thrilled when Mason, after some thought, did agree to take it on. While there was initial talk of demolition and starting again, Mason listened to us and took on saving the parts of the structure and the past that were worth saving and bringing our wishes to reality. Naturally, there were many, many surprises and Mason and team handled all with complete poise and a great plan. We received weekly updates on the job and our lead carpenter Scott was just a phenomenal, exacting craftsman who would not settle for anything not being perfect. The just completed result of a completely renovated home and guest house/garage showcases every wish we had, from masonry to carpentry and casework fit and finish, completely taking in our waterfront location and views. Our growing family will now enjoy this addition for years and years. Another first rate job and partnership. Thank you, Mason and your amazing craftsmen and staff.

We had a refrigerator from 1995 through the summer of 2023, and it ended up having an ice-maker leak, which contributed to rotting the floor beneath the appliance and also into our crawl space. The HomeMasons repair manager, John Gugumuck, went into the crawl space with me, showed me the damage and what needed to happen, from removing the old fridge and repairing the floor and mold contamination to having the new unit installed. There was a great deal of coordination involved. John and his team did outstanding work and it was extremely well done. Mason Hearn and HomeMasons shepherded us through the entire process and they have my highest recommendation. Excellent work with great integrity, experienced, professional, trustworthy people to work with. HomeMasons also did our kitchen redesign work back in 2005 and we remain extremely pleased with it -- creativity combined with professional people, a job well done and a pleasure to work with.

I would greatly caution anyone from using HomeMasons. Starting in 11-2022 and running through 04-2023 we worked with HomeMasons to complete one project with two main pieces of work:
1. A trapdoor in our atrium for interior basement access.
2. Rough stairs for the aforementioned trapdoor.
We chose HomeMasons as they has previously completed an interior trapdoor on a house and Richmond and were able to coordinate us seeing it. They assured us this was a place of expertise for them.

The early stages of design and the planning process were seamless but as construction started, our initial 2-week estimate for work turned into 3 months of unending stress. This was a major pain point, and given the nature of the job as Time and Materials (T&M), this guaranteed that we were going to go well over the upper estimates they had provided us for the job ($11k-$16k), and resulted in me turning to another contractor to complete the project.

I have a wide variety of other things I didn't like:

- The work slowdown was caused by engineering failures that were negligent.
It's clear that HomeMasons had not planned adequately for our project. Given the T&M that became our problem. Over 2 iterations of their ideas they had only delivered a non-functioning trapdoor and a sizable hole in my wallet. For anyone that's engineering-minded here were the big mistakes:
1. First, they installed a 1/2-inch piano hinge (absolutely tiny and affixed to the hardwood floor itself). To be clear the role of this hinge is to bear about 100 lbs of weight. It started failing on the first use and caused splitting in our hardwood. There is 0% chance this was ever going to work, and given their expertise they should have known that.
2. Then they recommended a larger gauge piano hinge. We had this hinge installed as well and after ~2 months of little use it is also failing. This was another bad idea as it is also not long enough and is screwed into subflooring.

- Poor communication from the lead on my project
I always had to call to get updates, find out timetables, figure out when work would be done, etc. I'm told this was because my lead was bad and 2 months in he was fired and replaced with Mason Hearn (the owner), but he was not better. I was not notified my project lead had been changed until of course I called to find it out several days after the change.

- I have multiple instances of Mason/my lead misrepresenting things to me directly and refusing to take care of certain parts of the project.
For example, they increased the scope of work and charged me an extra ~$400 for parts (and what would have likely been $1,000 for labor) that I was neither notified of nor agreed to. When I asked Mason to have these parts returned to get a credit back to my account, he told me they were required to address comments on the permit inspection. This was untrue, and I called the permit inspector to confirm that the comment was not a required change.

- HomeMasons is a very expensive option. You will be paying $100/hr labor, $30/day travel per person, 130% of the parts cost (they charge you a 30% admin fee on parts). You will get an unintelligible invoice each week with payment due the next week. I was hoping to be provided receipts and timesheets. And as I've been describing above, they don't deliver quality results for that kind of price.

- Honestly, if you've gotten this far, I hope it's enough to persuade you to contact at least a few other contractors. I found working with HomeMasons exceedingly painful and not something I'd recommend to anyone else. I still haven't mentioned the hours of work I put into finding a trapdoor latch and metal coating (products/services that they confidently declared to me did not exist), being misquoted what I owe over the phone, and generally being treated disrespectfully and dismissively whenever I expressed my concerns, but sadly I'm hitting the character limit on this review.

I paid HomeMasons $14k for bad work and a contractor I like ~$2K to fix it. Learn from my mistake.

We called Home Masons since my wife and I are not the handiest people on the planet (to put it mildly). We had several smaller items that had to be done including hanging a very heavy mirror in a place where both of us could not get to. Home Masons sent over a fantastic person that was beyond helpful. He did a terrific job and could not have been nicer.

I contracted with HomeMasons to repair some water damage from an undetected slow roof leak and some minor unrelated carpentry work. After removing some paneling and drywall it was apparent that the extent of the water damage was more extensive than either the original estimator or I anticipated. After consultation with Mason, a plan was approved and all repairs were done promptly, on budget and very professionally. The end result was at least as good as new and all repairs were done with a minimum of disruption.

During the course of the repair work I had interactions with a total of four different employees from HomeMasons (owner, estimator, carpenter and office personnel). Each of these individuals was pleasant and extremely professional. There is no part of this repair that was less than outstanding. I will absolutely contact HomeMasons before undertaking any future remodeling or repairs.

I contacted Home Masons about installing an outside entrance to my basement. A person showed the second time after missing the first appointment, took measurements, sent me an agreement to sign describing the cost, labor, excavating, and materials, and gave me a time line. They asked for a deposit of 30% of the low cost, which I provided. So, 3 weeks later when the project was supposed to be complete, they say they jumped the gun and way under estimated the cost of the project. Then wanted 3 times the original low end estimate. I informed them that triple the price was unacceptable after giving me a low to high price. To their credit, they did refund my deposit, and that is only reason for 2 stars. I was disappointed because they were so highly rated and the first price was fair and within my budget. They may do good work, but you can't trust them to stay within their cost estimate. I did receive a response from the owner apologizing for the mix up. However, I still believe that person doing the estimate should have researched the necessary codes and permits before submitting his low to high estimate. Being a Class A General Contractor, they should have known the requirements before doing so. Under Bidding a project, then expecting the customer to be responsible for your own mistakes is bad business practice, After 18 years in business for my self, I learned, get the bid right the first time as you usually don't get a second chance, believe me I have had to eat a few projects to make things right with a customer because of my underbidding. Customers frown on being stiffed.

We wanted to let you know how pleased we are with the work that was done at our home. It was primarily Kevin that was here to remove the wall between our family room and kitchen. It looks better than we ever expected it would. He is truly an artist and a craftsman. We could not figure out how to blend the two rooms with floor to ceiling wood panelling with crown molding in one, and panelling that stops at a chair rail in the other. Also, it turned out that the walls were offset. Kevin used the salvaged wood panelling to build back a wide framed opening that allows for the distinction between the rooms without sacrificing the openness. And the way he transitioned the flooring with a wide board perpendicular to the other floor board and stained to match, looks better than we anticipated. He is a skilled craftsman and we could not be happier with the outcome of his work!

I should also say that we were very pleased with the level of professionalism that we experienced with everyone from the HomeMasons team. You all truly deserve the highest marks in quality and service! We look forward to working with you on our next project. Thank you!

HomeMasons was an excellent choice for repairs to my 100 year old roof. I originally selected 3 reliable organizations for the bids. While HomeMasons was slightly higher than the middle bidder and definitely higher than the low-ball bid, they identified exactly what the problem was in a detailed manner with a clear budget. I originally just wanted the corbels replaced. When they went on the roof, they discovered that the slate was buckling and that there was probably dry-rot underneath the slate and it would require a painstaking process of removing slate and replacing the underlying boards. They offered pictures to substantiate their findings. The other bids were just going to put up new corbels! I found that HomeMasons was very professional, the workers polite, knowledgeable and clean! I am asking them back for more work! I couldn't be more pleased. I have finally found a quality company who knows what they are doing and provides excellent service. They ended up being a good value, responsive, on time and good quality professionals. I highly recommend them!!!!

We hired HomeMasons to fix a punch list of items needed to get our home ready to list. They spent a day here and completed everything. By the time we came home you couldn't even tell anyone was here (other than everything being fixed). No mess. No dirt tracked into our home. You can tell they take pride in their work and care about the home they are working in. Thank you Mason and your team for a great job.

A little over a year ago Mason and his crew began to transform the inside of my recently purchased 1960s rancher house. The cute little house was wonderful but needed a face lift and we decided to go ahead and totally gut it and give it a new life. And that Mason did. This little house is now my home and is a total gem between its characteristics and the land it now sits proudly on.
The craftsmanship and attention to detail is outstanding. Mason’s crew was dedicated and hardworking and always happy to answer questions at the job sight. Mason was also very easy and fun to work with to put our ideas together to make our visions come to life. If you are ever in need of someone who you can trust to help you make your house projects a reality Home Masons is the team I would turn to. I will definitely be returning to them for any future needs for this special little house or any house projects needs down the road!

In recent months we hired HomeMasons, Inc., to remodel our master bathroom. From the initial consultation and plan development, we were impressed by the high quality of professionalism and courtesy we received from owner Mason Hearn and his team of skilled professionals. Throughout the project we were treated with kindness and respect; our house was carefully protected as the work progressed. The project's outcomes were very successful.
But maybe the best experience came several months after the project was completed. On two occasions, our new master bathroom toilet backed up and overflowed! When we reported the problem to Mason, he immediately reassured us that the problem would be solved. He sent a plumber who, upon seeing the toilet we had installed , said that the toilet was a new design and was causing problems at other installations. The brand was a tried and true brand, but this new design was proving faulty. Mason absorbed the cost of the new toilet and installation even though it was we who chose the toilet. Mason's three year warranty on his work has proved valuable to us. We highly regard Mason and recommend him and his team. Jane Sewell

We hired HomeMasons for a living room addition and have been thrilled with every aspect of the project from planning through punch list. Mason’s architectural skill provided key suggestions that really added to the quality and special details of the new room. It makes a huge difference having an architect provide wise direction to your dreams for the new space and add insights that we would be otherwise never thought of. The final enlarged room is simply awesome. They minimized interruptions to the existing room so that we were able to use the old room up until the last minute.

The staff and contractors were first rate, keeping us informed and providing additional value at every opportunity. For example, the lead carpenter helped us move an armoire out of the old living room when it came time to vacate and to connect to the addition. He even disassembled it for us since the door it came in originally no longer existed, and it wouldn’t fit through any other door.

Our punch list was very short and all issues were resolved quickly and to our satisfaction.

We hired HomeMasons for a major home renovation project valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars that lasted several months. After going through the entire process, I have a complete lack of trust and confidence in HomeMasons management of finances and all other resources.

I'm unable to recommend HomeMasons to anyone in good conscious, even for the smallest size project.

Also, - noted that friends, family, and employees (present and past) of Homemasons have left five star ratings on various review sites on the internet.

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-
