Grubb Tree and Excavation

Had a super tall pine tree with shallow roots topple over in 2/15/25’s heavy gusts. The only thing that prevented the tree from falling on my neighbor’s car was a birch tree that kept it precariously propped up. On 2/15 I called Grubb Tree. The next day Luke, the owner, and his wife came out to inspect the problem, saw how dangerous the situation was, and bumped us up to the following day to get the work done. It was tricky taking down the tree safely while doing minimum harm to the birch, and involved ropes and pulleys and careful cutting. Luke and his crew did an amazing job in just a few hours, removing the fallen tree and two other pines close to the house. They cleaned up the debris and swept the yard and left it neater than it was before they arrived. I recommend them highly for their professionalism, expertise and reliability.

Luke was great to work with. I had Grubb Tree grind a large stump in my yard, and was impressed with their service. They were professional, efficient, and skilled. The team arrived on time, worked quickly, took care of a large white pine stump that had been an eyesore for months. Their equipment was top-notch, and the crew handled everything with care and expertise. I highly recommend Grubb Tree to anyone needing stump grinding.

Grubb Tree Service has cut down trees, ground stumps and removed storm debris for us numerous times. That alone attests to our total satisfaction with the work they do.

We worked with Grubb twice. The first time, they removed a huge maple tree that had gotten diseased. The second, they trimmed and pruned some of our backyard trees and removed a weeping cherry that had died. Each time, They did an excellent, clean job and were prompt and courteous.

Grubb Tree has done tree removal for us, and most recently demolished and rebuilt our front porch, trimmed overgrown bushes and painted our front shutters. Both times their work has been excellent. We highly recommend their services.

Hired for drain install and ditch digging.

Cut our water line during French drain install. Left us scrambling without water to the house. Plumber had to come out and fix clogged pipes. Grubb covered cost of repairs after repeated attempts to contact owner.

Quality of work suffered after accident, see pics, and interactions became adversarial.

Overall poor experience.

We hired Grubb Tree to install a french drain and dig out our front ditch.

They cut our water line.

Instead of calling a plumber, they incorrectly patched it and our pipes were clogged with mud, leaving us without water. When we asked the onsite manager, "What is your process for handling a situation like this?" the response was "Well you signed an agreement saying we aren't liable for these types of things. People don't usually read the whole thing and miss that part. As long as it [cost to fix] isn't too much, we will do right by you guys." We felt like this response wasn't helpful as it turned the relationship from collaborative to adversarial. We solved the problem by calling 3 different plumbers to assess and 1 providing a fix. We then tried to coordinate with Grubb Tree to cover the cost of the fix. We tried to coordinate with Luke Grubb who originally estimated and contracted this work in order to ensure that the repairs were reflected in the contract. Our calls were seemingly screened and forwarded to the onsite manager, Joe Grubb, who never forwarded our calls. After repeated attempts, we were provided paperwork via email that reflected the cost reduction for the plumbing fix and they were scheduled to return and finish the work. Grubb Tree returned to finish the french drain, which they did without headache. When it came time to dig out the front ditch the onsite manager was refusing to perform the work outlined in the estimate, claiming an incorrect interpretation of the imagery and work statement. After back and forth, the matter had to be escalated to Luke. He admitted a "miscommunication" on their part and instructed the team to proceed according to the contract. The quality of work on the ditch was insultingly poor ,see pictures. It was clear from the haphazard discarding of topsoil and snakelike pattern of the cut out "ditch" that the onsite team was rushing this part of the job and adhering to an almost malicious compliance and interpretation of the statement of work.
We understand that mistakes and miscommunications happen. However, we expect to be treated with respect. To us, this would mean our contractor ensures that our voices are heard without condescension. It also means that our contractor performs work of a reasonable quality and assumes a certain level of care. Unfortunately, in this case, we feel like Grubb Tree didn't meet these expectations and it resulted in a poor overall experience. Therefore, we will not be doing business with them again.

They went above and beyond the call of duty and what I asked. They were always on time, friendly, and honest

We just had a large 4 day clearing project completed and were very pleased with the whole process. Communication was superb which we’ve found to be rare in this industry. Luke was very flexible when the scope of our job changed, he worked within our budget, and the whole crew was always on time, had a great work ethic, and we’re conscientious about a clean, thorough job. I would absolutely recommend and use Grubb Tree again.

Luke and his crew (I don't know everyone's name) all did an excellent job! They were on time, worked safely, put the fence back and reseeded patches of ground that were damaged by equipment, and cleaned up thoroughly. I would definitely recommend them.

Luke Grubb and his crew took down a 100 feet twin Poplar tree, cleaned the branches, left the logs, and took care of the stump all within one work day. Impressive job well done!

This is our fourth service from Grubb Tree and another exemplary experience. We had one significant oak leaning towards the house and Joe and Luke were able to handle our tree removal by themselves thanks to their new spider lift that enabled topping and taking them down by sections. Perfect placement on the drops and done with a total of three trees in two hours. Outstanding as always.

Grubb Tree Service did such a fantastic job! We absolutely would not hesitate to contact them again and recommend them very highly. Their professional and skilled work included the safe removal of several trees and the pruning of others that resulted in the transformation of our backyard. It was a project we cared a great deal about, and we feel fortunate that we were able to work with them. From the first time Luke came out to give an estimate, I felt he really listened to any concerns about the trees we had, and he was always available to address questions about the process. One of the trees in particular was a very complicated removal, as it had been struck by lightening and was leaning against and growing into another very large tree. Luke was able to take it down safely and so skillfully, without damage to surrounding trees and while keeping the entire crew safe as well. We were so impressed with all they did! Antonio and Brett were simply excellent - they went out of their way to help us with the projects that we needed to complete, and like Luke and Joe, were both kind, talented and professional. We are truly appreciative of everything they accomplished and could not have have enjoyed working with them more. 5 stars all the way!

Initially, we had Luke and the Grubb Tree team take down a huge dying maple that was very close to our house. They were very professional and careful in taking it down. The team also did a very good job of cleaning up the debris from the tree.
When we found out that Grubb also does retaining walls, we hired them to demolish our existing wall (which was in the process of falling) and to build a new one. The area surrounding the wall had to be excavated to make room for the new l-shaped wall. Antonio and Brett did a beautiful job of building the new wall and doing some landscaping around the area. Once again, we were impressed with their courteous and professional work.

These guys did some brush, bush and tree removal for our hotel. Professional from start to finish. They even followed up on an issue after getting paid. We will be using them again.

Luke and his team did an outstanding job clearing land for a future garage. They also did some grading on my driveway and cutting trees. Reasonable price and very easy to deal with. Will definitely use them again.

We’ve used Grubb Tree before and they always go above and beyond what other companies have done for us, which is why we keep hiring them! They do a phenomenal job and they clean up the space SO well before they leave. I wish they offered something like a maintenance plan since we seem to need their services every couple years. The gentlemen of Grubb Tree and Excavation were professional and timely. Several mature oak and poplar trees were damaged in an electrical storm and posed a threat to buildings. The Grubb Tree Excavation team provided excellent guidance and worked with extreme safety and efficiency. I highly recommend this company.

I've used Grubb Tree twice recently and had great experiences both times. They chipped up a huge pile of limbs earlier this year after the snowstorm in January. During a time when arborists and tree companies were in high demand, they gave me an estimate and completed the work in less than 24 hours.

Recently, I called Luke about a tree with several dead limbs that were hanging over my yard and fence. He came to my house to give me an estimate and then had a crew there the same morning to complete the work. The team was super friendly and professional and finished the work quickly.

I've been very impressed by the quality of their work and the speed of service. I also really appreciate that they did an excellent job cleaning up my yard and driveway after they finished (no leftover sticks, wood chips, etc.). I think the prices are very fair, particularly given the quality of their work. I'll definitely use Grubb Tree again!

I've hired Grubb Tree in 2020, 2022, and 2025 to remove dead trees and limbs. This year, I also had them grind stumps. Luke and his crew were very professional and conscientious. I feel they've worked on my property with the same care that they would likely work on their own place. I will certainly contact Grubb Tree the next time I need tree service.

We have used Grubb Tree for a few different projects over the last few years including tree pruning and landscaping. Most recently, they poured a concrete sidewalk from our porch to the street. Nobody likes it when a tree falls in a storm and destroys a trampoline. Joe and Luke and the rest of the staff at Grubb Tree were prompt and courteous. They explained everything to me. I have used them before for trees in the past and they are extremely professionally and the work is of the highest quality. It you need something done correctly and well, make a call to Grubb Tree.

Grubb Tree removed three large (40 foot tall) dead or dying ash trees, two of which were right next to a sidewalk, and one right next to the parking lot. They were constrained by a narrow roadway, tight access into the parking area, and constant traffic. In spite of that, they were up and running within an hour of arrival, and had the job completed and a stump ground to yard level by 4:30 the same day. Professional, safety conscious, and courteous, I rely on Joe Grubb and his crew to always do the job right when working at any of the properties I manage.

We recently hired Grubb Tree to remove a large tree near our house. They responded to my inquiries and questions timely prior to the project. Wonderful experience with David, Da'Quone and Antonio! Over the course of two days they removed three very tall storm damaged trees and cleared a large area with many years of dead trees and "standing logs". Safety was a high priority for all of the work (testing of safety lines, gear worn, etc.) and they are kind, hard working and efficient. And they did a great job cleaning up the job site too. Grubb Tree was extremely professional and we are super happy with the work they completed. We had two very large and mature Maple trees close to each side of our house and they were able to remove them and grind the stumps without a hiccup! They showed up with a large crew and all of the professional equipment needed for the job. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for tree removal. You could probably find someone to do the work cheaper, but you get what you pay and Grubb Tree is worth every penny.

To begin, Luke and Billy were on time at the house to provide a quote. They walked the property, agreed with the work I had asked about. They also showed me a dangerous situation I was unaware of, that could have impacted the house. The guys provided me a quote and day estimate. Trent (amazing climber) and the guys showed up early on the day they quoted and professionally cut down the trees we had agreed to. Some of these trees were massive and provided challenges, which they took down masterfully. Luke and the guys then excavated and mulched all the invasive olive along our creek. The work was completed ahead of the rain, on schedule, to my complete satisfaction.

I have used Grubb Tree twice to take down large oaks around my home. Once was for an addition and to remove a very large oak leaning over the house. The most recent time was to remove a storm damaged oak leaning over top of the new addition. Their crew showed a lot of skill and precision in deliberately removing the trees piece by piece to avoid any damage to the structure. It was a joy to watch the team work together quickly and efficiently. Everyone on site was professional and polite. Highly recommend them.

Grubb Tree just completed a job to remove 6-8 large pines and a sycamore on our property. While there are other companies large and small that could have done the job, what sets Grubb Tree apart from the others is: 1) their communication is outstanding. They actually call you back promptly, follow up when appropriate and the on-site supervisor keeps you informed of progress; 2) the team (David and his crew) did an amazing amount of work in the time allotted. In other words, the job completed was well worth the money spent.
I've dealt with several tree services in Greene County but highly recommend Grubb Tree service as the best in the area!
UPDATE: Fast forward several years and Luke Grubb and team are back to remove an eyesore group of cedars and pines all tangled together, which opened up our landscape and improved the view. As always, great communication and arrived when they said they would. They got the work done in record time! Again, we highly recommend Grubb Tree with Luke and team.

Very pleased with the job Luke's crew did for cleaning up trees recently downed by the wind. Brett and his partner were prompt, professional, and thorough. Luke was on the scene within a couple hours of my call and the work was done 2 days later. Their 18 inch chipper is amazing!

I used Grubb Tree in January 2019 to take down an old dead old tree and they did great. I used them again in June 2019 to trim some branches of several trees in preparation for the house to be painted. Once again, they provided excellent service. David, Simon, and Antonio were friendly, professional and efficient. I will definitely use Grubb Tree the next time I need anything done.

I used them again on 10 May 2022. Again, excellent service! Personable and professional. These guys are great! They took down a large but damaged branch. They went above and beyond and ground up some of my piles of pruned branches.

I don't know the names of the men that worked here that day, but it was cold, raining and awful. I didn't expect them to even show up. But they did and did a perfect job. However later I called them for a tree down after a storm and the price was exorbitant and the clean up wasn't good. Don't use them any more

I called on Monday, they came on Wednesday. Frankly, I'm amazed how quickly they were able to remove three downed trees and one huge limb--and leave everything in good condition.

If I could leave a 10 star review I would! I'm so impressed with Grubb Tree Service! I've known Luke personally for many years and I had NO IDEA that he could do landscaping!! I would have called him years ago.
My husband and I love our home - especially the backyard -but with two busy schedules and a new baby, landscaping became low on our list of priorities. Luke came over and not only taught me about each plant but also knew exactly what everything needed. The best part is how clean everything was left. I literally have zero complaints- and as a professional nitpicker that says a lot. Happy to have a company to call in the future that I can trust. Can't wait to recommend him to friends.
