I was pleased in every way with Barney and Earl Roofing. Everything from the bid process, to sample selection, to the installation was professional and clean. I found Earl Roofing through our 2 neighbors. Everyone is very happy with their work. Highly recommend!

Earl Roofing was fantastic & I would use them again without hesitation. Barney, the owner was incredibly responsive, on-time, and communicated with us through the entire process. Our situation was very unique in that it involved removing old, thick, glass panels and then putting into place a brand new traditional roof, while dealing with our 3 dogs. Barney & his crews went out of their way to greet our dogs, answer my mother-in-laws questions, and provide us with photos of the work when it was all finished. I have worked with several contractors in the past & Barney’s professionalism, communication & knowledge surpassed them all. I HIGHLY recommend you contact them if you need roof work.

Hiring Barney Earl and Earl Roofing was the worst professional decision of my
life, I have never regretted hiring anyone more.
I hired Barney and his company , Earl Roofing to put a metal roof on my house in Topanga, California. Topanga is located in an extreme fire danger area and so the metal roof was to give us a fire proof solution.

Barney was very polite and friendly on the phone though he never came to meet us. Instead he sent his employee Rich , to bid the job. Rich was a wonderful guy and we thought he would be our point person on the job which was fine, but after he picked up the signed contract and the check, he informed us that all contact had to go through Barney only.

Unfortunately , after Barney cashed the check, he stopped being so polite and didn't answer his phone or text when I tried to contact him just to find out what was happening..
He did send the workers to scrape off the old roof shingles, but while doing so, they completely filled the attic with broken roofing tar because they didn't even put a tarp underneath it.

Barney or Rich never even came to inspect the roof or the demo work to find out what repairs needed to be done, so he had no idea that broken boards needed to be replaced and that plywood needed to be installed before they could continue.

When I told him, he started screaming about how he didn't have time for this or to answer my emails because he had so many big jobs going on all over at the same time. He was very clear in his attitude that he didn't really care about my house or this job and that he had more important things to do.
He reluctantly agreed to order the plywood and fix the roof boards.
Barney emailed me confirming
"Any broken boards we will replace. "

Then, days later, he had some guys ,not regular employees of his company, but guys hired for that day, show up. The guys said that Barney never spoke to them about repairing the broken roof boards and never told them to bring the wood needed to do it. When Barney didn't answer their calls that morning to find out why , I said I would go get the wood myself at the lumber store, so we could replace the broken boards.
Then , finally, they got a text from Barney and in his anger about us questioning his work (or lack of it), he told the workers to leave the job. When I emailed him to ask him to give me a call , he wrote

"No need for a phone call. You won’t let us do our job. You’re obviously a fully qualified roofer yourself so I’m surprised you don’t know that it doesn’t matter if some 1x4 boards are split if you’re covering whole roof in 1/2” plywood.  Half could be completely missing and it’d still be ok...
We’re done."

Barney then kept 2/3 of my check , charging me $4800.00 for 4 hours of work from his crew , and more than $2000.00 for the plywood and underlayment he dumped on my driveway, that he never installed on my roof. He also charged me for nails that were never even delivered on his made up invoice with no receipts or prices shown for anything.
Four days later, The Saddle Ridge Fire started and as the fire progressed west toward Topanga Canyon, I realized that if it reached us, I had no protection from fire embers that would get into my open attic and start a fire since Barney had left it unprotected after tearing off my roof.
Needless to say, that fire kept me up for a few nights, not knowing if my house might catch fire because Barney left me with an exposed roof and decided to abandon his paid job and signed contract because he got offended.

I am filing formal complaints against Barney Earl and Earl Roofing with
-California State Licensing Board
-The Better Business Bureau
-The Department of Consumer Affairs

I have never worked with anyone less professional and more incompetent than Barney Earl.
Anyone who reads this and was ever considering hiring Barney Earl or Earl Roofing , think again and run, don't walk, as far away as possible!
