Darwin and his crew at Blue Hawk did an excellent job on a front deck for my house. They replaced a small dysfunctional stoop and gave me a wonderful deck to enjoy the outdoors and relax. Darwin had wonderful ideas that enhanced my vision and complements the style of my house wonderfully! His team was courteous, knowledgeable and had wonderful work ethic, they cleaned everything when done and made sure I was happy before they left. I would definitely recommend them for any work needed and I will definitely be calling them again when I have another project to tackle!

BlueHawk Builders did outstanding work repairing our home recently. In late summer, a windstorm knocked an enormous poplar tree onto the roof of our house--a direct hit right to the center of the roof, causing one giant hole the size of a car, several smaller holes, and other significant, structural damage. The owner of BlueHawk Builders, Darwin Hurst, made quick work knocking out a damage assessment and repair cost estimate. Once we offered him the job, he and his and his crew were punctual every day, always well prepared with the right tools and materials, highly talented, hard working, personable, fun and funny, and HONEST. Everything about our experience with BlueHawk Builders was awesome. I reached out to Blue Hawk Builders about adding a screened in porch to our home. They were the first company I reached out to because they advertise adding/remodeling porches on their website, they are close by my home and had good reviews as well. Unfortunately they just won’t respond to any of my attempts to get an estimate/get more info on the project. Over 2.5 weeks I tried reaching out through message on their website, email, and text but they just ignore me. I guess they just don’t want my business.

Bluehawk takes pride in their work and their employees, I witnessed first hand how the team takes time teach and coach newer carpenters on the job.

While finishing up my building a small cut was made that protruded out past the trim on the backside of our building , I would have never noticed it. When I got home from work, A Bluehawk employee ( that had obviously finished for the day) was waiting on me, he walked me to the upper far side of the building, pointed at the cut and said “ I wanted to show you that and let you know we will be back to fix it”…. It’s now fixed.

Highly recommend this team of professionals, they go above and beyond and we will definitely be using them again.

Hired these guys to replace the decking and railing on our deck. Showed up when they said and got the job done quickly. Went above and beyond in repairing some of the joist structure as well. Great bunch of guys, willing to answer questions and obviously take great pride in their work. And to top it off, they were reasonably priced. As the old saying goes - it don't get no better than that!

Darwin and his team did an outstanding job on our deck. Once we were able to connect he scheduled the work and his team stayed after it until they were finished. It looks as good now, and is as solid as it was the day it was completed (coming up on 2 years now I suppose). Couldn't be happier with the quality of the work and how easy he made the whole process. BlueHawk Builders did a wonderful job repairing my back deck and repairing / updating my front porch while I prepared my house for sale. Darwin made a suggestion for the front porch which not only repaired my problems but made the porch modern and attractive. The team did the work timely and thoroughly, all at a time when it was challenging to find workers and supplies. When listed, the most asked question was "who did your front porch!?" I couldn't be happier with how it all turned out.

Darwin and his team completed a deck extension for us. He came to provide a quote and offer a few suggestions on minor changes that ended up making a large difference to the end result! Our deck looks amazing.

The guys were done in 3 days which was way faster than I was expecting. They worked 10 hour days and left our garden clean each evening.

Screened-in porch in Massanutten:

We recently had BlueHawk screen in our porch and add underdecking giving us an outdoor space we can use all 4 seasons. From our initial meeting, Darwin and his guys were extremely professional, reliable, and took great attention to detail. I looked at a few different contractors when scoping out this project and I can say his cost estimate was more than fair and he seemed really interested in the work. I would definitely use them again for any deck or porch projects.

Darwin and team were FANTASTIC. The deck turned out better than we could ever have dreamed. We explained roughly what our idea was, and Darwin translated that into a stunning finished design. Super professional team, friendly, considerate, efficient, and exceptional value.. We can’t say enough about how glad we were to have found BlueHawk Builders to replace our deck. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and will definitely work with them for future needs.

I picked this contractor for all 5 star ratings. I feel its important to provide an honest rating to consumers.Darwin built a 52 x 40 garage with 14 foot lean too attached. Building has attic trusses, with all metal ribbed roof and sides. I asked for a premium building.Garage has 12 windows /3 walk in doors with (14) foot wide x 12 foot tall insulated premium garage doors. Darwin would never give me a contract. I asked for it before any work was started, still no contract.:( The garage has no bug/insect closures at roof that keep bugs out. All premium metal garages should have bug closures installed... No concrete was supposed to be poured in freezing weather. Apron was poured in freezing weather after he said he would not do that!
Darwin was gonna pour a 4 inch thick concrete floor instead of agreed 6 inch depth.. He removed the rebar, plastic, gravel and tamped to make it the correct 6 inch depth. I would not settle for 4 inch depth! Google says contractors normally use the 1/8 inch rule per inch of concrete thickness. My rebar was 1/2 inch ,smaller than normal . Darwin would have been poured a "thin" floor if I had not measured it before the pour... I caught that BIG mistake day before pour...Windows have no jams , so this will be more expense to me when i finish interior. I can not get my vehicles in or out garage doors for Darwin would not complete the excavation.We agreed to closing the deal and I got what I got. HIS clean up after work should have been better. Again a LOT of money spent but NO CONTRACT. Consumers ,Keep your eye on the Blue Hawk!

I chose Blue Hawk for a deck and covered front porch addition to our house. Darwin came by and looked at what I had in mind and made several small suggestions that might make a big difference. All of these suggestions are things that I hadn't thought about but in the end I am glad I chose him as a builder because those little differences mean a lot now! The project was completed in a timely manner and the craftsmanship is impeccable. You can't go wrong with Blue Hawk!

We could not be happier with our barn! Darwin finished it quickly and efficiently. If you want something done right and at a fair price go with Blue Hawk. We will be using Blue Hawk again on our future projects.

Darwin's experience and attention to detail show in the finished deck he built us. He met the agreed schedule and budget and exceeded the expected quality. He made several suggestions to the plans that resulted in a better deck. Building Inspector's first comment during the final was "Wow".

Quality - The pole barn built behind my home is exceptionally well made. Darwin and Dave were working at least 10 hours M-F. The job site was cleaned up every evening when they were finished. Darwin prides himself in completing a challenging project, and was up to adding the details I had envisioned my shop to look like. I am very satisfied with the quality of their work, and will absolutely recommended them to anyone I speak to, and hopefully will need to utilize their services in the future.

Price - Darwin is not going to be the cheapest person you speak to, nor should he be. That being said, there are larger companies out there that will charge more for a lessor quality building. Also, Darwin's final price was exactly what he quoted (with the exception of extras I changed between quote and start date). I have experienced through others the pain experienced by a lowball quote only to have a final bill much higher than anticipated. You can trust Darwin when he asks for the down payment to order the materials, and for the check when he starts work. He will likely be done with your project before the check clears, as was the case with me.

Timeframe - I was oringally told the project would take three weeks. The building was done in 8 business days. Absolutely amazing. It was terribly hot some days; I don't know how they stayed cool and worked through the heat for such long hours.

Overall - I couldn't be happier. Start to finish, Darwin and Dave are hard, honest workers, which is greatly appreciated. It was money well spent. There's no way I could have built the pole barn in the same amount of time with half a dozen friends. They are knowledgeable of the trade and are an efficient team. My suggestion would be to get them while you can. I expect their reputation to precede them, and for their prices to increase based on their demand. Thank you Darwin and Dave.

We hired BlueHawk Builders LLC to build a small cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. We met with three builders prior to selecting BlueHawk. We also spoke with three of BlueHawk's former clients. All three said the same thing, and we will echo that as well: our experience with Darwin Hurst and BlueHawk Builders could not have been more positive. Darwin is a young man with old school craftsmanship and values. He and those working with him were trustworthy, considerate, hardworking and detail-oriented. He is an excellent communicator. As we were two hours away, much of our collaboration was handled by phone or by text with pictures. He kept us in the loop on progress nearly daily. Many times he would send pictures of options and would await our decision.

We had construction plans put together by our interior designer and a structural engineer which Darwin brought to life. In the process he noted areas where he felt it would be beneficial to enhance the design due to the wind load of our mountaintop home (built to withstand 120mph winds). He installed additional hurricane straps to the joists and added an interior beam for additional support. These suggestions came from his previous experience building in coastal hurricane areas and spending much time thinking about our build. While there were some additions to our original quote per our wishes/needs, some items Darwin chose to take care of within the quoted cost. Darwin's philosophy of building is two-fold in that he ultimately wants his clients to be more than satisfied with the project, and he believes his reputation is of more value than huge profit. We recommend Darwin and BlueHawk Builders without reservation and absolutely would contract with him for any future building needs.

Darwin put an addition on our cabin, put up cedar siding, replaced the deck, and built a 12x16 cedar shed to match the cabin. He exceeded expectation on every project. The addition was tricky, and Darwin advised us when he realized our original concept was going to be problematic for ice and drainage. He found a solution that worked brilliantly at no extra cost, and he still finished on time, despite the issues (which were all our fault, not his.). Darwin has a great eye for detail and is a really talented carpenter. He is without a doubt the best contractor we have ever worked with. He is timely, professional, skilled, and honest. We keep going back to hire him for more projects, and highly recommend him.
