Alan and his crew did a fantastic job of disassembling the old flue, and stove piping and replacing it with new pipe. They worked very well together to get the work done in record time and when cleaning out the stove, did a great job with that task as well. I would highly recommend this company for any flue work or cleaning that needs to be done. Top notch!

Rehabbed a chimney disused for years. New damper, new chimney cap (new concrete) repairs inside the chimney. The crew is great, they worked their hearts out during a summer heatwave. Came back out and thoroughly inspected when I had concerns about smoke smell after using the Heatilator. These guys are great. Worth every penny. Will never call anyone else.

My old chimney crown was looking like rice crispy treats and now it looks great and has proper overhang. They do great work, quoted price did not grow, extra services were explained but no hard sells, very helpful over the phone. You could say he's a bit blunt but I'll take that instead of blowing smoke any day. Would recommend to anyone. Now my chimney needs a soft-wash because the crown looks so good...

Once the roof needs replacement we'll definitely be having them come back to do the lasts-forever copper flashing. Before and after pics uploaded.

These guys are great. I needed a wood stove insert removed from my chimney and I would have had to wait 2 months elsewhere. These guys came out the week after I called and charged me less than they originally quoted. Highly recommended.

I own a home that was built in 1934. Alan understands the aesthetics of an older home. I needed new brick to build replace the old ones. He went out of his to make sure that the bricks match.

He cares about his work. He is very proud of it, as he should be.

After the passing of my husband, the maintenance of the chimney was a new responsibility for me. Alan helped resolve a clogged chimney which had a fire. After trying to clean a glazed flue, too heavily coated from the fire, he installed a stainless steel liner. I learned the hard way how important it is to have a regularly maintained flue. It gives me peace of mind as I answer questions for insuring the value of my property. Blacksburg Chimney Services is a now a necessary annual service to maintain my biggest investment, my home.

I called them 2 times. Made tentative appointments 2 times. He was to call me the next week to set a firm appointment. The second call to him he did not remember me but said he would call the next week to make a firm appointment. That was a month ago and never heard from Alan again. His work may be good but I cannot say. His promise to call is worth little.

I wish that all the tradesman (carpenters, painters, landscapers, etc.) who have worked on my house/property over the last 40 years had been as dedicated and honest as Alan... last of a dying breed!

Very positive experience. Told us of the chimney swifts, a protected species, who would be with us until mid September after which we could cap the chimney. Much appreciated his candor and will call back later in September.

A wonderful company. Alan has always been pleasant, friendly, and courteous. He sends his crews on time, and they do excellent work. I wouldn't dream of having anyone but Alan and his crew clean my chimneys.

Alan really knows his business with regard to stoves and chimneys. He and his crew converted my fireplace chimney for use with a wood stove by installing a new liner. All the work was very professional and great care was taken to keep the house and furnishings clean and protected. The original installer of the stove did a poor job and Alan greatly improved the operation of the stove. He even tested the chimney draft and at no extra cost and installed a flue damper which greatly improved the performance of the stove. I highly recommend Alan and his Blacksburg Chimney Services team. They really know their business.

I found Alan’s company, Blacksburg Chimney Sweeps, on the internet. He had a backlog of work, so it took some time for him to get to us, but conversations with him led me to believe he knows what he is doing. We have a stone fireplace that is the focal point of the room. It was built incorrectly 15 years ago and leaked smoke into the room every time we tried to use it. Alan inspected the situation and determined it could possibly be fixed with two options. He suggested a copper hood to lower the height of the opening. If that didn’t work, he would have to reconstruct the flue. He did warn us that neither of these options may fix the issue.
The hood fixed our problem!!! We thoroughly enjoyed working with his staff and have signed up for his company to clean our chimney on a yearly bases. What could have cost us a small fortune was done at an extremely reasonable price.

Alan has been doing my chimney for about 15 years now. A few years ago, he replaced the metal piping that connects my wood stove to the chimney. It has been working great ever since. He does a complete and careful job, keeping everything as neat as possible. I highly recommend him!

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
