We highly recommend Atlantic. They replaced an 8 foot sliding patio door for us which required lifting it up and over the railing of the second level balcony of our townhouse. The day of install, there were at least a couple of extra crews that showed up that morning to assist in getting the door up to the deck using several ladders and lots of manpower. Quite a job!
The guys that remained to do the install were professional, polite and knowledgeable.
I know it can be a crapshoot when looking for and hiring a contractor so I want to make sure I took the time to leave a lengthy but honest review for those who are on the fence about who to hire. We recently purchased this home as a fixer upper for our retirement home as we are just a few years out from retiring. We live several hours away in Northern Va. and really didn’t know anyone here in Hampton. We noticed Atlantic doing work on some of our neighbors’ homes when we were in town on the weekends and thought we’d call for an estimate on some projects that were over our head. Randy came by to look at things during the week even though we couldn’t be there to meet him in person and provided us with an estimate by email. We have lots of work that needs to be done but couldn’t afford to get it all done at one time so I asked if they could make a separate estimate just for the door install and they did. As with most contractors, scheduling can sometimes be a challenge. Atlantic was upfront and honest about fitting us in but the office stayed in touch with us and offered Saturday service in order to accommodate our not being here full time during the week, not to mention it being just a week out from Christmas. Once complete, the guys all jumped in to cleanup and pile the debris outback neatly to be picked up during the week. Customer service is everything to me and these guys did not disappoint. We will be repeat customers and I look forward to working with Randy and his crew again soon.
Thanks again Atlantic!

Came out quickly with an estimate where another company told me my job was too small. They were up front with costs and communicated well with scheduling until he repair was completed.

I called AWS to repair flashing and soffit damaged by a storm in the front of my house. Randy was very responsive in looking at the work and providing a very fair estimate. Scheduling with Tara was was prompt and they kept to their schedule. The guys were professional and workmanship was top notch. The new soffit looks so good I plan on having them come back to replace the old discolored soffit in the rear of the house.

AWS removed our front door and side lights, all framing and trim, and replaced with new weather-resistant materials as the old wood and trim were deteriorating. Reinstalled our already new door and the older side lights. Cost was reasonable compared to other quotes and superbly done. We are confident the entryway will be sound for decades. We did not choose the style of the exterior - just wanted something consistent with the style of the house. The result was an elegant simplicity that was by no means bare bones. We didn't mind that it took quite some time for them to work through projects already in progress or they were committed to, as we had seen their work on another home and had a solid endorsement of that owner. It was more than worth the wait.

***Beware***
Contacted this contractor back in February for a home I had just purchased. They came out for the estimate. I had told them I was leaving for a business trip, and wanted to see if I could get the work done while I was away. The quote arrived after I had left, and did not contain the items as discussed. So I had to wait until I returned to get an update. Fast forward, the roofing side was prompt and professional. The original estimator never provided an updated quote. Kept getting excuse after excuse until almost 3 months later I'm told they won't be able to get to me until September even if they could get the quote updated. The issues/repairs are emergent, and now I can't seem to find another contractor because I thought they were honest and reliable based on the reviews. Would not recommend this company.

AWS is a great company to work with. This is the second time we have used this company. They did a beautiful 2 tier deck on our home. The first time. This time, AWS is building a very large porch addition. AWS goal is to please the client. I would and have recommend them for your building needs

I am so pleased with my entire experience with AWS! From the beginning, contractors came WITH a 40-foot ladder, fully prepared to assess the job and give a true estimate. And, the same people who assessed the job, came back to complete the job...and they were on the job every day until it was finished. To top it off, I felt good about the paying the bill when the work was done.

Discovered them at the Hampton Roads Home Show last month. Had them come out and install insulation and hang drywall in my laundry. Randy and his crew did an EXCELLENT job! Ended up having them do two additional emergency issues that came up the next week. I would HIGHLY recommend them for home improvements and home repair services.

This review is based on customer service only.

I contacted Atlantic on 28 Sept to get a quote on a ridgeline cover replacement. Randy called me back and gave me an over the phone estimate. We agreed to meet at my house on 29 Sept at 11:00 to sign the contract. 11:00 on the 29th came and went, I called the office, no answer, I called Randy, no answer. Randy did call me back at 11:19, I let him know who I was and why I had called. Randy apologized for not meeting me but he was headed out of town on a mini vacation. Randy assured me someone would show up on 30 Sept to complete the work we agreed upon.

The 30th came and went, no one showed up to complete the work, and no one called to explain why. I called the office on the 1st Oct and left a message asking for a return call and an explanation.

On 2nd Oct, I called the office and explained what happened. Randy called me at 10:38, apologized, told me he wasn't aware the job did not get completed on the 30th but assured me someone would be at my house today (02 Oct) at 1:00 to complete the job. No one arrived at 1:00 or 2:00, but I did get a call at 2:58 from an employee telling me he was on the way to pick up the parts and he would be to my house in 30 to 40 minutes. I hung up and called Randy, told him I no longer needed his services and explained in detail why. Randy hung up on me. I called the office, explained what has occurred and asked the receptionist to please call Randy and have him tell the employee not to show up at my house. I also told her I would be leaving a negative review on social media based on customer service and not on the quality of the work, as mine was never completed. The receptionist repeatedly apologized profusely, telling me this was not the way they did business. I told her she had no reason to apologize as she did nothing wrong. I was not harsh, I did not curse, nor raise my voice during this entire conversation.

Approximately 5 minutes later I received a phone call from the employee trying to get me to change my mind. I refused. Approximately 5 minutes after that, Randy called me back and accused me of "balling out" his receptionist and making her cry. I told Randy exactly what I said, how I said it, and why I said it, to his receptionist. Randy then attempted to shift the conversation to why he was out of town, who failed to show up on Saturday to complete the job, and he should have told me 3:00 instead of 1:00 today. They were all great excuses but in the end they were excuses. Randy's lack of customer service and employee problems is not my problem. It is a company problem not a customer problem. I called him to do a job based on the reviews for his company. Randy and his company repeatedly failed to make appointments when scheduled, no show to complete work, and then try to shift the blame to me. This is why I refused to continue to do business with Randy and his company. A systematic failure in all areas in his customer service.

Again, this review is based Entirely on customer service Not work completed as no work was ever completed.

Today, 03 Oct 17, I just received this text message from Randy, the owner, even after telling me "We have nothing further to discuss":

" Our family thanks you for your review. We work hard everyday and I tried to squeeze you in with my long backlog of work and because timing didn't work out you feel you need to try to ruin me. Thanks again. Good thing I have so many review that say my customer service is excellent that yours won't matter. Thanks again good luck getting the work done." I have nothing further to add and will let Randy's response speak for itself.

Service questions

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
