Freddy came across nice, energetic, and obviously a new business owner. He said all of the things you want to hear and see in a finished product. This was the end of the positives. My executive board attended the proposal meeting where we accepted his $6,000 bid for a 250ft2 meeting room in a retired caboose. We warned him of the known obstacles and gave him the chance to raise his bid amount, he declined. We as a team choose materials, colors, trim, lighting and all the normal items. Freddy took the deposit, didn't show up for his first day or week, started coming, missed many days, worked short days, asked to come in after hours and over the weekend, begged our administrative assistant for advances of which we did. Freddy disconnected power to our alarm system, put a drywall screw through a wire and didn't fix it until after mudding and taping, got Covid, disappeared for a month, and then begged to finish at night and on weekends. We declined and decided to cut our $9,000 in losses, $3,000 over bid, with a half finished poor quality meeting room. Freddy came to get his tools one day and we requested the uninstalled flooring and bifold door before he got his tools, out of a small business goodwill we allowed him to take his tools with the promise to deliver the flooring and door on Friday. 1 month later no materials, he's blocked our phone numbers, blocked us on Facebook, and completely scammed us. I would pursue a lawsuit if it weren't for the cost benefit.
